Ukulele Lessons in Fairmont, OK

In teaching lessons, it is my great pleasure to share with students of all ages and skill levels the knowledge that I've gained over 27 years of playing. I firmly believe that anyone can learn anything at any time, given the proper tools!

In our first lesson, we will determine your musical goals and create a realistic path to achieving them. It's my job to help you along this path while keeping things fun.

To maintain focus and week-to-week continuity, I always provide lesson notes to take home. I can also provide recordings of lessons and transcriptions of pieces, if desired.

Learn rhythm, chords, finger technique and improvisation to learn music of many styles.

Ukulele:
Sometimes abbreviated to uke, it is a member of the lute family of instruments; it generally employs four nylon or gut strings or four courses of strings. Some strings may be paired in courses, giving the instrument a total of six or eight strings. The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, mainly from Madeira and the Azores. The tone and volume of the instrument vary with size and construction. Ukuleles commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. If you just want to play songs I'm happy to teach you the songs you love. I can also teach you to become a musician by teaching from the beginning with the very basics of finger placement, reading, notes, rhythms, songs, scales, theory and improvisation....or, we can do both!

Beginners focus on note and tablature reading basic melodies and chords in the first position. Once they reach the intermediate and advanced stage, we expand and learn to apply the foundation to music the student enjoys based on their own individual goals.

I love working with a range of kids to adults. I teach music theory and a variety of styles of music entirely dependent on what the student is looking for.

I have been teaching a variety of fretted stringed instruments, for over 25 years. Ukulele is a fun and easy instrument for beginners of any age to learn! I teach chords, strumming, finger-picking, and melody lines, and know lots of songs that are particularly good for the ukulele. Students may choose to learn to read music, or to read tablature, or just play by rote and from lesson videos. All of my lessons are customized to match each individual student's interests and preferred learning styles. (With very young children, I will have the child learn to play and sing popular children's songs.)
