My 1st lesson with Jason was very relaxed & professional. I learned more in 45 minutes than the last 5 months on my own in regards to reading music, rhythm, timing and playing the notes on the staff. He is very patient and knowledgeable. His diversity in music provides an understanding of where you are at and where you want to go with music. I look forward to my next lesson with Jason.

I believe that teaching guitar requires a balance of structure and spontaneity with some humor and fun mixed in. I believe that learning to play music is a social activity which is ultimately about communicating something deep and meaningful. During the 8+ years that I've been teaching, several of my students have either gone on to play at their school talent shows, attend music college or simply learned to enjoy the pleasure of performing for their family and friends.
About Kaz
I believe music offers invaluable lessons for developing creativity, hard-work ethic and self-awareness.
I consider myself to be an easy-going but effective teacher. Students have told me that I'm patient and great at explaining difficult things.
Prior to the first lesson, I will ask you for some background information about the student's experience with music
(lessons/teachers, listening habits, attention/focus, etc.).
During each lesson, we will go over fundamental techniques, songs and improving overall musicianship.

About Olli
I'm now accepting students at my studio in Bushwick, and also willing to travel pretty much anywhere in NYC! All skill levels are welcomed. The lessons will be fully tailored to students individual needs, but overall the main focus will be the mechanics of the guitar, which can be applied to all styles of music. This includes learning the notes on the fretboard, different picking and fretting techniques, and learning to read music on the guitar.

I believe that music should never feel like a chore and that music learning should be curiosity-driven, active, enjoyable, and emphasize self-expression. Learn good habits from the beginning and build techniques from a solid foundation to adapt to any musical style you'd like!
About Diana
In the course of her studies, Diana was honored with awards of excellence from the National Honors Society of Guitar and recognized for her performances with the critically acclaimed woman’s guitar ensemble, ‘Presti Quartet.’ She was selected two years in a row to perform 1st chair in the New Mexico ALLSTATE Guitar Orchestra - the first-ever young woman to earn that position. The following year she was chosen as one of twelve guitarists to represent music in education in the United States.
In the time since her studies, Diana has called many places home. She lived in New Orleans for several years and in that time her music interests broadened to embrace traditional American forms, such as jazz and the blues. During that time she ran a private music practice, teaching children and young adults to become proficient in these idioms. She continued her travels, her studies and her teachings during the summer of 2017 in Spain. She has been living, studying and teaching in New York City since the fall of 2017, always carrying with her the belief that music should never feel like a chore and that learning music should be curiosity-driven, active, enjoyable, and emphasize self-expression. Diana believes in building a strong foundation of musical knowledge with her students by providing the tools to create good habits from the beginning and encouraging effective, deliberate practice. It is her mission to inspire aspiring musicians as a music educator and bring a life-long love of music to her students.

Even if you have never held a guitar before, I will have you jamming by the end of our first lesson. I don't use note names, but instead teach you to improvise in every key using memorable, movable patterns on the fretboard. I’ll show you how to find the key of any given song so that you can begin playing along with your favorites in your free time using the patterns I’ve shown you. Getting better at guitar is all about spending time with the instrument; what you will learn in our lessons will provide you with ample material to practice by giving you the tools to make an infinite amount of great sounding music, even after just one lesson! After your fretting hand has become accustom to the neck of the guitar and your picking/strumming hand has developed the necessary coordination, we will build your chord vocabulary and begin experimenting with different rhythms.

About Ian
Learning theory can be a turn off for some people in the early stages of guitar playing, but as soon as you express interest in understanding why and how the chords in your classic tunes sound so good together, I’m great at explaining to people with all different learning styles. Visual learners, especially, will greatly benefit from the fact that I am a left-handed player. When one righty tries to show another righty something on guitar, the student has to take the extra step of inverting the finger positions being shown to him/her by the teacher. With me, however, our guitars will align in a mirror image. The second you see me play something, it will be much easier to process what I am doing than if you had to flip it.
I have a great deal of experience teaching complete beginners of all ages and find it extremely fulfilling to bring someone who has never held a guitar before the incredible joy and liberation that comes with learning how to play along. Study with me, and you will connect on a much deeper level with the music that you have been listening to your whole life.
