Ukulele:
Sometimes abbreviated to uke, it is a member of the lute family of instruments; it generally employs four nylon or gut strings or four courses of strings. Some strings may be paired in courses, giving the instrument a total of six or eight strings. The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, mainly from Madeira and the Azores. The tone and volume of the instrument vary with size and construction. Ukuleles commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. If you just want to play songs I'm happy to teach you the songs you love. I can also teach you to become a musician by teaching from the beginning with the very basics of finger placement, reading, notes, rhythms, songs, scales, theory and improvisation....or, we can do both!

This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

The Ukulele is an excellent instrument especially for younger children that would like to get into music. A lot of chords only require one or two fingers to learn and a person can usually start playing their favorite songs in only one or two lessons.

"Edwin is amazing. My 5 year old is pretty distracted and stubborn. Edwin made the lesson very fun for him and he actually learned a lot in the short lesson. He was very patient. He taught him not only the instrument itself but started teaching him some rhythm and music theory as well. As soon as my son matures a little more and is ready for lessons we will definitely pick Edwin!"

One Easy Trick to Convert Guitar Chords to Ukulele Chords | TakeLessons

Are you trying to learn a song on ukulele but can only find guitar chords? I’ve played guitar all my life and have a collection of Gibson and Epiphone Les Pauls. For my birthday a few years ago, my girlfriend bought me an electric Les Paul-style ukulele. I’d never played a uke before -- ever. I had to go online to even find out how to tune the thing! Undaunted, I discovered the standard tuning is from the top string G – C – E – A. The G string is thinner than the C string, sort …
