I have a degree in music, and have taught at three summer camps three music stores and two universities.
I have been teaching guitar since 1990. I teach ages 9 and up, and I aim to tailor lessons to work with your natural strengths and learning style.
I offer note-reading but it is optional. We can study guitar using tablature and chord diagrams. The important thing is to make great music, enjoy the process, play songs you like, make steady progress and become independent.
If I teach you well, eventually you won't need me very much- you'll be able to figure things out on your own,
I started playing guitar when I was 4. I've played classical, rock, a bit of jazz, folk, a little bluegrass, and fingerstyle. I love the guitar and I love teaching!
About Carla
Music is my LIFE! After 30 years of teaching at music camps, music stores, 3 colleges and my home, I completely understand that the lessons are all about YOU, the student: what you want to learn, taught to you in a way that works for your brain and personality. And if you don't know exactly w

Playing for my own enjoyment is now enjoyable once again.
My lessons were online and very effective - when I got stuck, Carla would send me a sample audio clip of her playing the difficult part which was a godsend for me in how I learn new musical things.
I highly recommend Carla and her Carlalology method of guitar teaching. You won't be disappointed.

Hear From TakeLessons Guitar Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

And that's just Jeff's interaction with me. In addition to that, he is a great musician. He can hear everything and can write down the chords of a song he never before in only a few minutes. He can play almost anything just by ear. He also knows music theory and was able to help answer my questions in that area. He also guided me towards some theory and scale books since I showed extra interest in that.
In terms of personality, Jeff is very patient and kind. He cares about what he does and he cares about his students. He knows what it's like to face the challenges of learning an instrument. He was even gracious enough to spend his time helping me to pick out my first electric guitar (I had been using just an acoustic). In additional to that, he is ALWAYS on time for lessons and spends that extra few minutes when he can.
I would highly recommend Jeff for guitar lessons!"

Not only does he have a clear method for teaching guitar (I really like the structure) but I can come to him with any song or idea and he either teaches it to me or we work through it together.
With so many guitar teachers in the area, I consider myself lucky for having met such a brilliant guitarist and wonderful teacher. Can't recommend him enough."
