In a calm, easy going atmosphere you can expect to laugh a bit, as it is called 'playing music', as well as become focused & disciplined to succeed.

For those wishing to join in the fun of playing bluegrass music, we will start out with technique exercises, scales, basic melodies & accompaniment patterns to prepare you to learn this unique & exciting style of American music. There are many gatherings in the area called 'Pickin' Parties' that I want to get you ready to participate in as soon as is humanly possible.
If you are one of those brave souls undertaking the lovely but challenging fretless instrument, the violin, my main focus is to get you started with the all the necessary basic techniques - holding the instrument & bow correctly, getting the best possible tone & pitch using efficiency & accuracy, mixed with a great deal of ear training & heart.
Specific songs you'd like to learn? Your reward for accomplishing what I deem necessary on whichever instrument you've chosen will be for us to then listen to & analyze your desired piece, & I will then write it out in either tablature or standard notation.

Lets rock the uke! Lets learn all your favorite songs to jam along too, or delve deep into what this amazing little instrument can really do, it's all up you.
About Omar
I love to answer questions and learn things I don't know, I know a good amount about guitar repair, improvised instrument building, how to buy a good instrument and not spend to much, and I have a vast knowledge of obscure instruments, and audio production as well. Feel free to ask me questions, and expect informative non-judgmental answers.
I have spent a lot of time developing as a vocalist, songwriter, composer and producer, which helps me in all aspects of my music and teaching, I'm always looking to learn more. I have played in heavy metal bands, but have also done solo acoustic singer/songwriting stuff, I have produced raw hip-hop but also love old soul and ska tunes. Being well rounded musically and drawing from lots of influences is what makes me a good teacher and shapes me as a m
As an artist I have been featured on MTV, Rollingstone, BBC, NBC, VOA, ARY, Alt Press, LA times, documentaries and more. I have been playing guitar and recording music since childhood and am a classically trained sitar player and Indian classical vocalist.
I am a great teacher for someone who wants to write songs, or is into Indie, rock, pop, reggae, metal, hip-hop, and electronica.
*** Lesson Details/ What to Expect ***
You can expect a custom, fun and attentive one on one lesson. I am thorough and patient. I expect you to love music and put forth effort. I'm laid back, I will work as fast or as slow as you need. I prefer a total immersion technique and get my students playing right away. This boosts confidence and fosters interest because once a student enjoys playing you don't have to convince them to practice.
By the first lesson you will be familiar with the instrument and it's parts, and playing your first chord.
In 3-6 months you will be playing guitar with a greater knowledge of chords, basic harmony and be able to play scales and songs.
Once you have a foundation of chords we can explore more specific music subjects and lessons will become more personalized: songwriting, guitar tones, musicology, making a DIY record, shredding like a metalhead, I can guide you to help you achieve your goals.
I receive a very large number of student requests everyday, So to keep things organized please keep the following in mind:
Takelessons is a wonderful service that I use to handle all my payments and scheduling. I want to focus on the teaching, so they help with the rest.
I have a 24 hour cancelation policy, please give me at least 24 hour advanced notice, or you will forfeit your lesson credit.
All scheduling changes or time off can be requested right from the website for your connivence. it's super easy!
Use an email that you will actually check to sign up for notifications, it's not spam, it's to help us all stay organized.
Remember to please reserve your spot by paying in advance. (I have a waiting list of people asking me for those super convenient days, and times)
Online students please make sure you have the highest connection speed available to you. This will ensure you get the most out of the lessons.

I have been teaching a variety of fretted stringed instruments, for over 25 years. Ukulele is a fun and easy instrument for beginners of any age to learn! I teach chords, strumming, finger-picking, and melody lines, and know lots of songs that are particularly good for the ukulele. Students may choose to learn to read music, or to read tablature, or just play by rote and from lesson videos. All of my lessons are customized to match each individual student's interests and preferred learning styles. (With very young children, I will have the child learn to play and sing popular children's songs.)
About Linda
I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.
I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.
The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.
*** Specialties ***
Guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs.
Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory, with en emphasis on rock, pop, and folk music. I include arranging, chord theory, and use of the many features of an elec
Bass Guitar: I teach rock, pop, funk, and country music on bass.
Banjo: I teach bluegrass, country, and some blues and rock music. I can also teach a bit of old-timey frailing/clawhammer style.

*** I am particularly good at working with children who have a.d.h.d. and other learning disabilities!

I find ukulele to often work better than guitar for many young students (typically years 10 and younger). When appropriate, the student can transition to guitar having increased hand strength and learned many of the concepts needed to excel. Of course, ukulele makes for a fun (and ultra-portable) instrument in its own right!

Love to teach beginners and intermediate students.
I teach all uke students how to read, theory, songs and how to understand playing the instrument solo or in a group setting.
Uke is capable of doing anything, all one has to do is apply oneself and music can come flowing out of the instrument.
About John
Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me.
Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me, but it will last your entire lifetime. I hope that all of your life you will have a rewarding relationship to music and the spirit of great sounds!
I have performed in great jazz clubs in New York, on Broadway, and performing arts centers across the country. I'm currently playing in many great performing ensembles. I have put out two CD's as a leader and played on multiple CD's for other artists.
It has been my pleasure to teach privately, as well as in the classroom for 15 years. I enjoy performing many different types of music. I pri
I be glad to provide a full resume to anyone who requests it.

My most important goal for each student is that they get to where they want to be musically.
I want the student to be able to play the way he or she wants to play. If you want to learn to play one song, that is great! If you want to learn to play one classical etude that is just as great! If you want to learn how to play in a salsa band, bravo! I treat the desires of my students as my curriculum. Each student will receive special prep time from me each week. I pride myself in taking the time and energy to prepare for each meeting. Every time you complete a lesson, it is my hope that you are walking away as a better musician.
In the beginning I hope to find what will musically interests you the most. Usually, you might have a goal that requires you to play on a higher level than you do presently. If that is true, we might take some time to figure out a road map to get you to that place. Along the way, I'm sure you and I will learn many new concepts and techniques that aid you in becoming the bassist/musician you want to be.
And rest assured, the teacher always learns from the student...this is the best part of teaching: learning from the student.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: 3 electric basses, plenty of amps and chords, one acoustic bass, piano, ukulele, guitar, computer playback and recording.
*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
I have been lucky to play tons of different types of music. I believe I can give musicians and aspiring musicians a deep understanding of what is most important in many different styles of music. Music I have been lucky enough to study and play professionally: Jazz, Rock, Funk, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Blues, Classical, Pop.
I'm also a very good transcriber, so if there is a song you heard on the radio we can definitely play it! Ear training could be an area in which I could be of service to you as well.
I have many arranging and composing credits and I would be glad to help students in this area whenever requested.

John is an amazing teacher all around. Very professional and good at getting me to understand things which may be a bit confusing. I am currently reading and playing between four books and I never thought it would be possible especially just after taking lessons for a year. Sometimes I feel a bit frustraited when I am not able to play certain pieces or when I dont understand a concept but John is great at breaking everything down and making it easier. I am now realizing how my piano skills can be utilizied in my other music projects. When I attend my lessons I am reminded why I love having them so much. With him as my instructor I can see my skills improving and I know I will only get better. I recommend piano lessons to everyone and if you are looking to have a great teacher John is your go to person !

Beginners focus on note and tablature reading basic melodies and chords in the first position. Once they reach the intermediate and advanced stage, we expand and learn to apply the foundation to music the student enjoys based on their own individual goals.
About Maria
The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:
(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.
Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.
