ich I walked away saying "Man, I never KNEW that!" and it's my goal for you have that experience, too. Whether its how to play that chord or write a melody, how to get the best sound out of those stomp boxes, or when genres like shoegazer and post-rock were invented and what they sound like... there's something to be learned in every lesson.

The most important benefit of taking lessons from me is my experience. I started teaching casually as a teenager and have followed every opportunity since. My passion for music has allowed me to teach private lessons (10+ years), middle school guitar class (including a guitar ensemble), and college-level music theory classes. Extensive experience in writing, recording, and performing has only helped that passion to grow. I've developed a method to blend theory with practice every step of the way, and make the journey fun!

Parker is a great teacher & a really nice guy. I have been working with him for about 18 months, and I have come a very long way in my technical ability as well as my understanding of music theory. He has a very low key, positive approach to our lessons, which makes them relaxing and fun, but at the same time he has the ability to get me out of my "comfort zone" and doing things that are new and challenging, from dabbling in different genres to creating new arrangements of old favorite songs to diving into the theory behind iconic riffs and chord progressions.
He has become a friend and I look forward to all of our online sessions.

Oh boy, do I love the Ukulele! This instrument is FUN. I became passionate about the ukulele a few years ago. This instrument is fun. We will learn our chords, learn a lot of unique strumming patters and work on our rhythm. We will also learn how to take some classic rock and roll guitar songs and turn them into happy-go-lucky-uke tunes!
This instrument is PERFECT for beginners - adults and children!

About Rachel
I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm.

I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice and the journey of patience. The process of learning has helped me carve out and cultivate my style of music. It's opened up a lot of doors for me in my life. I've had the honor to play with a lot of great performers and have been lucky enough to tour the U.S. and Canada with festivals and showcases such as Vans Warped Tour, South By Southwest and the Halifax Pop Explosion.I've been the opening act for Carolyn Wonderland, Maria Taylor, Tsunami Bomb, Tilly and the Wall, Basia Bulat, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere. Anathallo, Cursive, Milton Hopki
ns, and Pony Up.

When I have free time I volunteer with the Houston Chapter of Girls Rock Camp to help teach girls empowerment through songwriting and music.

I began teaching as an afterschool job when I was 16. I was homeschooled, so I feel that the experience taught me that everyone learns differently and that there is not just one standardized method to playing music.

My teaching style varies with each student, but the one constant is my ability to make each and every client I encounter completely fall in LOVE with music. It's my super power.

Lesson plans are tailored for your specific needs and to help you achieve your musical goals and aspirations at your desired pace. I enjoy my students and making music with them.

Here is an overview of the lessons that I provide.

Guitar:
Finger Picking, Song Writing, Rhythm, Lead, Scales,Modes & Ear Training.

Songwriting and composition: Learn techniques, how to brain storm and plot your musical story line. This class pairs great with vocal lessons or guitar lessons.

My name is Amanda O., and I am a Harpist, Voice teacher, Therapeutic Musician, Life Coach, Alternative Medicine Practitioner, and Vocalist who has over 21 years of experience as a classical vocalist and performer. By 8 years old, I began training as an opera singer and have merged my love of classical vocals with the therapeutic harp. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Diego State University, with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and am currently in my graduate program at Chaminade University of Honolulu studying to obtain my Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology. I graduated from the International Harp Therapy Program as a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner and have completed an internship at Apreva Hospice. as Narzerath House, Bay View, Bella Vista, Monte Vista Village, and La Mesa Health Care Center, as well as making In-Home visits. I also have experience playing therapeutic music at over 20 facilities in Oahu, Hawaii, where I currently reside. These include independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care facilities! I also have experience playing for the actively dying for hospice and consider it an honor to be of musical assistance for people in transition.

I love to teach and can make my harp and voice lessons unique to each individual based on their current skill level. I love watching people expand and grow through music. Your lessons will be engaging, compassionate, fun, and organized! Each lesson will encourage you to become excited about your musical growth and inspire you to continue. I offer something unusual for a harp teacher in that I can teach both improvisation and music theory for the harp. This means that you will get the best of both worlds!

I like to make learning an instrument fun and easy to fit into your schedule!

If you're an adult finally getting around to learning your dream instrument or a child following your passion of playing music I tailor your lessons specifically to you. We look at what you want to play, pick specific songs that you want to learn, and learn the techniques you need to play these songs. It sounds simple, but it's so effective and much more fun to learn this way!

If you have any questions for me hit the "Ask Grant A Question" button, I would love to hear from you and discuss your interests in music!

About Grant
Hello!

My name is Grant and I’ve been helping students grow for over 11 years now! How time flies! I started playing music at the age of 9 and have been in love with it ever since, staying active in my local music scene as an instructor, performer, manager, and booking agent.

This is how I like to structure my lessons:

I look at what you want to play, pick specific songs that you want to learn, and teach you the techniques you need to play these songs. It sounds simple, but it's so effective and much more fun to learn this way!

In addition to freelance work, (weddings, jazz brunch gigs, etc.) I am the lead guitarist for the Funk/R&B band Water Seed and the soul project RetroFit. I attended Indiana University for jazz guitar and have studied under jazz greats Dan Miller, Corey Christiansen, and Oteil Burbridge.

I teach all
kinds of stringed instruments from guitar and bass to mandolin and banjo!

If you have any questions for me hit the "Ask Grant A Question" button, I would love to hear from you and discuss your interests in music!

Musically yours,
Grant

About Ken F.

Brooklyn, NY

View Full Profile

Brooklyn-based private music teacher operating in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Over a decade of experience teaching a broad range of styles to students of all ages and backgrounds. Strong focus on the individual student's personal interests and goals. Master's degree in music with years of experience touring globally and recording for both major and indie labels.
Whether you're looking to begin your or your child's ukulele learning experience, or take your playing to the next level, it's my passion to get students playing the music they want to play, right from the beginning!

About Ken
A recent transplant to the Park Slope area, I'm a composer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to receiving my master's degree in composition from Mannes (The New School), I was the lead guitarist in the indie rock band Annuals. As part of this group I signed with two major record labels, appeared on national television programs such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and performed globally both on tour and at prominent festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury (England), and Roskilde (Denmark).

I have been teaching private music lessons for twelve years, both freelance and as part of various organizations. My approach to teaching is highly dynamic—I don't use the same method with every student and I have no stylistic prejudices or an agenda to push. I approach each student as an individual
, tailoring lesson plans to suit their personal goals and interests. I have experience playing and teaching an extensive range of styles including pop, rock, jazz, country, metal, and classical. One of my main goals is to foster a sense of musical understanding with every student so that they may learn to combine technical, theoretical, and aural skills into a unified whole.

Most students want to learn to play songs they know and love. To that end, I get students playing the music they want to play right from the beginning, often through personally crafted arrangements of songs/pieces of the student's choosing, specifically tailored to their current skill level. This way, technical and theoretical skills are learned through direct experience with actual music, and only very rarely through rote exercise.

For more advanced players, I offer an array of strategies designed to take your playing to the next level. I find that the most common shortcomings of advanced players are conceptual. The technical skills are there but the level of conceptual and theoretical understanding has hit a wall. Many players find themselves playing the same chord shapes, melodic patterns, and harmonic progressions over and over again. I've had much success over the years in getting advanced students out of this rut and helping open up new pathways for exploration in both improvisation and composition.

I've been playing off and on for 15 years and am mostly self taught. I knew what I wanted to learn but was having trouble figuring it out on my own. In the first lesson Ken was able to zero in on what I want to learn and the best way to go about it. In three lessons I feel that I understand the guitar so much more than I have in the past 15 years of playing. Not only from a technical standpoint, but also in a "feel" sense. On my own I could learn all the scales, chords, and songs I wanted, but Ken has helped me to make sense of everything and use these skills to become a better player all around.

I teach music from the perspective of a modern musician and a songwriter. I want to make sure you are relaxed and having fun, as well as learning everything you want to learn in these lessons! We will get you playing songs you enjoy, right from the start. The most important thing to me, is for my students to have fun during their lessons, because real learning comes from commitment, and commitment comes much easier when you enjoy what you do.

About Loralee
Loralee began exploring music at a very young age, as part of a musical household. She enrolled in flute lessons at the age of 4, giving her solid roots in music theory and an appreciation for classical music. Her flute lessons later led her to take part in marching band and numerous musical ensembles. Aside from her love of music, 15 years of performing and studying dance led her to discover her joy in teaching when she began to teach creative movement and ballet to young dancers. In college, she began learning guitar and writing music to match a growing passion for songwriting and acoustic folk music. Her musical pursuits led her to join a local alt pop/punk band as a vocalist, and she performed with them in the surrounding area. After graduating with a B.A. at Michigan State University, Loralee began to pursue a career as a solo musici
an, and released a 4 song EP “If You Were a Song”. Now, she has written hundreds of songs and performs her original music in the San Francisco area.

Are you a fan of Jake Shimabukuro? Tired of playing the same songs again and again? Struggling to find a video with a clear view of the player's finger?

When I picked up the ukulele for the first time, I wanted to be the best. Unfortunately, there were no resources or teachers who offered ukulele lessons at high levels. Having been an instructor for a music shop, I'm ready to teach anything, from the basics, to complex strumming patterns, dazzling finger picking or famous songs that have no tabs online! My students have ranged from 4 to 60+ years old!! Message me for any questions.

About Z
I LOVE music. I started playing piano when I was younger, but I didn't like it because I felt like mum was making me practice and play--so I quit. A few years later, I found a dusty box sitting on the top shelf and found a beautiful ukulele. It turned out that dad had bought it over a decade ago during a trip to Hawaii and he hadn't played it much since. I was hooked from my first strum.

It's been six years since and I still can't put down my ukulele! I've participated in competitions, taught in music schools and even met my biggest idol: Jake Shimabukuro. I sympathize a lot with people who desperately want to play music, but don't know how to start. I had no clue where to begin when I started!

Along my musical journey, I also picked up beatboxing. That was arguably even harder than learning the ukulele, because so few people knew
how to do it. But I kept going, and navigated my way through hundreds of online videos and tutorials. I was obsessed. By my senior year in high school, I auditioned and was selected to the number one acapella group in my school as the beatboxer. I'm currently a beatboxer for an acapella group in university!

Everything I know about ukuleles and beatboxing comes from the internet and online tutorials. I'm a huge fan of self-motivated learning, but at the same time, it would have been such an amazing resource if I had someone to guide me along. I don't have a degree in music or anything, and I've never taken a music class in my life! I just know when I hear something good and know how to communicate that well to people who feel intimidated by scales, theory and chords.

I don't take anything too seriously, but I am seriously in love with music.

I have been playing guitar and bass for over 15 years, which has been a remarkable and rewarding musical journey. After teaching myself for seven years, I decided to attend the Atlanta Institute of Music from which I graduated with a performance-based scholarship. My own approach to learning has helped me to teach students from all various backgrounds as I am able to adapt my lesson plans to accommodate either a more classical or more colloquial approach to effectively relate the material to each student effectively. My lesson plans are structured around the goals that students set for themselves, which I then show them how to achieve in a practical manner. This is a great life skill that will extend even beyond music. The only goals that cannot be reached are the ones you tell yourself repeatedly "I can't", which is the only real barrier to learning and creating.
