Ukulele Lessons in Valley View-Reed. Amazing Teachers.

The ukulele is a creative adaptation and redesign of the machete de braga, a small stringed instrument that was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants in August of 1879. The Hawaiian people fell in love with the sound of the instrument and named it “ukulele" because the fingers of the performer dancing around on the neck and strings as a song was played resembled jumping fleas. Ukulele means jumping fleas in the Hawaiian language.

Since the ukulele is related to a European instrument and the guitar from Spain, the relative tuning is the same. It should be tuned a perfect fourth up from a guitar, so the first string is tuned to an A, second string should be tuned to an E, third string will be a C, & the fourth string should be tuned to a G an octave up. Most ukuleles have a fourth string that is an octave above what the normal progression would be of most stringed instruments. Build a foundation of techniques to be able to play riffs, scales, chords and songs as quickly as possible. Build strength and dexterity through different patterns and have an overall understanding of how the instrument works and how to be creative with it.

The Ukulele has seen a resurgence in recent years, and is a really fun and easier instrument to learn. Like the guitar, I teach beginners basic chords and rhythms to get them playing their favorite songs as soon as possible.

I've been playing ukulele for 15 years and teaching ukulele for 10 of those. I love this instrument, and I love teaching it to all ages. It's a simple but wonderful instrument and so fun to play. I'll focus on technique, chords, tab, finger picking, song studies, and theory.

Student can learn strumming techniques, accompanying, finger-style techniques, popular and classical solo arrangements.
