I have played guitar for over 35 years professionally and currently do as well. As a music major at Broward college I studied theory and am able to apply and explain this in my teachings. i.e Rudiments, The staff guitar tabs, scales, chords, inversions, box systems, linear and horizontal scales, modes. etc. I can teach, rock, pop, classical and other genres of guitar, and have done extensive research in finger picking styles. Most importantly, when a student wants to learn a particular song, instead of showing it to them, I show them the process and give them the tools and theory behind figuring it out for themselves.

I've been teaching guitar for the past 15 years. I help students find their unique musical voice through the study of songs and techniques they are interested in. For younger students I also use the Hal Leonard guitar method books to learn music reading. As students advance we switch to William Levitt's Modern method for guitar for jazz students, or Christopher Parkening's classical guitar method for fingerstyle players. Students should be able to play chords to their favorite tunes within 6 weeks. I teach to inspire passion for music. If you love music it makes it fun to practice. When you practice it makes music fun!

The teacher was a few minutes late to my first lesson. I have a screenshot of me in the room waiting for her 2 min past the hour. The connection was poor. Today, 5 minutes after the hour I still hadn’t heard from the teacher and she told me we were using Zoom moving forward. I reached out to her for a link and 6 min after start time she said she had computer issues and was restarting. I booked a 1 hour session and 8 min in, I received the link. I let her know I needed to rebook bc of her tardiness because I had another obligation exactly on the hour. She understood and took responsibility and told me she’d cancel the lesson. I was very disappointed and cancelled the remainder of my lessons. Once she found out, she went back in today’s session and rebooked it and marked it as missed so she’d get paid. Extremely unhappy with this business. If you are looking to take lessons online, look elsewhere.

For the beginner we start learning immediately, by choosing what guitar and why. The different methods of sitting with the guitar, as well as standing. We then go over tuning your instrument, these things make us more familiar with the instrument. We then learn new songs by playing either chords (harmony) or melodic lines, (melodies or scales). The beginner will also learn to use "proper technique" which includes playing on fingertips, thumb placement for the fretting hand and other approaches. The picking hand techniques include and are not limited to finger picking, or the use of the plectrum.

For intermediate player it's all about theory and practice. This level of student will learn scale and chordal theory, and apply them to existing songs as well as learning the new songs with the theory in mind. More advanced picking techniques and the ability to know when to use what picking approach when reading the the rhythm figures on the staff. Knowledge of song composition is ...

- Mr Mandel is the most patient instructor, which is good since he's dealing with an 8 year old girl who's not sure she even wants to play an instrument. Somehow, he manages to instruct and motivate her even when she'd rather be playing computer games.
- I also take lessons from him- I've got a music background but had no previous experience with the guitar before and Mr Mandel was able to adapt his teaching style to accommodate that nicely.
-I highly recommend him!

I am an adult who began guitar as an adult and I have taken lessons with Mandel for nearly a year. He is the single best music instructor I have ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable and versatile, welcomes questions, and will take time to explain anything even if it interferes with his planned lesson. He is encouraging and incredibly professional. I leave every lesson ready to try again and encouraged to keep practicing. I highly recommend him as a guitar and music theory instructor.

"I stumbled on David by chance as I was looking for a new guitar instructor. I play for hobby and one of those people who can only play what they can play because of mass amounts of practice – no talent here : ) I presented David my wish list, I was looking for someone to help get me out of a rut, work as a mentor and develop a plan to get me back on a path to shredding someday. David took this challenge and with a back to the basics approach I soon had a deeper understanding of music theory topics I had practiced and tried to understand for years. David paid attention to the goal I envisioned, every lesson was a step in that direction and as a mentor to help me on my personal music journey; can’t say enough good things about him – fantastic teacher for any age, any level."

5 Reasons Learning Barre Chords Is Easier Than You Think

Learning guitar barre chords, or chords created while clamping down all six strings with your index finger, intimidates many guitar students. However, these new chords don't need to be so scary! Austin guitar teacher Samuel B. breaks down five reasons why learning barre chords is not so bad... I maintain little to no doubt that learning guitar barre chords is the most challenging advance for a student. Along the way there, I recommend practicing chords such as F (which involves holding down t …
