I customize my students curriculum based on their specific goals. I feel teaching students to play and transcribe songs and solos is my most important job. Most students come to me looking for structure so I try and provide a clear path for them to reach their goals. Although I love teaching music theory I understand that it is not for everyone, so I only offer theoretical principles when it is appropriate or asked for. I rarely use textbooks, but I do employ a lot of exercises and educational material when it applies to a lesson.

For students with no prior music experience I use text books, and exercises to strengthen their technique, expose them to musical ideas, and give them a foundation of basic music theory.  After that is accomplished I move into a curriculum that is more personal to their specific goals.

About Jared

I have been playing instruments and performing live since I was eleven. In college, I studied both piano and guitar, and received a bachelors of fine arts with a concentration in jazz guitar from Columbia College Chicago in 2004. I moved to Seattle in 2004 and have been performing and giving private

He pays attention to detail, is super organized with a definite plan and knows how to keep a student's interest. He is balanced and very realistic in his approach. He is talented and meets the student where he is. He is even transcribing a Bollywood song for my son and my son is loving it! He is flexible... We are so happy to have found him.

Guitar is my first and primary instrument. I love it so much because it is one of the most diverse instruments in the world. With that being said I try to be not only a diverse player but musician in general. This past year I performed in GFA's (Guitar Foundation of America) competition with my guitar quartet and as a soloist.

Chris is the most understanding, invested, and patient guitar teacher I have ever had. I have been playing for 11 years, and about 6 years into that I began learning classical guitar from Chris. He was able to teach me anything from beginner level until I was ready for advanced techniques. Very responsible and the best experience I’ve had with any guitar teacher.

Chris is a CHEAT - he took our money and just vanished - made up many excuses via canceling classes and ultimately stopped responding to texts. He broke both my kid's confidence and till now they are very sad!

"I've been taking lessons with Don for 6 months...

I am amazed at the progress I've made. I've gone from badly strumming a few songs to being able to do some simple guitar solos. Don focuses on fundamentals and technique, and it pays off, and really helps you learn faster."

"You'll never find anyone better!

My daughter has been taking lessons with Jason since she was 5 years old, almost 6 years now. Watching her progress over the years has been amazing to see, and seeing how Jason's lessons evolve with her shows how versitile he can be. Starting out with very basic lessons, now to some complex chords; and various styles of music along the way. Julia has worked on songs that range from The Little Mermaid to Johnny Cash, Jingle Bells to The Civil Wars, and Jason has made it fun all along the way. He makes it challenging for her, while not so tough that she gets discouraged, all the while pushing her to try new techniques making her better. She looks forward to sitting with Jason every week."

"I’ve been teaching myself guitar for almost a year now, I never wanted to spend crazy amounts for lessons that I would have to leave the house for. Lorin has done a fantastic job with starting small and allowing me to grow. I’ve learned more about how to put together songs, writing lyrics and creating a new project from scratch. If you are new or even if you know the basics, Lorin’s techniques will honestly help you find your sound and your pace for learning any of his specialized teaching routines. Thank you so much Lorin, I’m very satisfied with the lessons."

"Indigo is great. She has tailored my lessons around the specific areas of the guitar that I'm looking to work on (ranging from theory to improvisation), and as a result I'm developing a fuller understanding of the instrument from the inside out (and outside in, in terms of song work). Patient, flexible, and very chill, too, it goes without saying. Very much recommend!"

Mother’s Day is a day to show appreciation to the special woman who raised you. But flowers and traditional gifts aren't the only way to show your mom you love her. Here, guitar instructor Matt. K has put together five guitar songs that are perfect to sing for your mom... When it comes to Mother's Day and certain holidays, sometimes us musicians can’t afford the traditional gifts, like a bouquet of flowers, but that doesn't mean we can't give our mothers something special. 7 Female Guitarists to Watch in 2015

Many dubbed 2014 "the year of the woman", and in 2015 women show no signs of slowing down. Whether you spent last year hooked on Taylor Swift's 1989, freaking out about St Vincent, buzzing in the Bey-hive, or feverishly anticipating Sleater-Kinney's reunion, women dominated much of our cultural conversation about music. With International Women's Day coming up this weekend, it's a great time to appreciate the talents and ferocity of these amazing guitar-slinging women! Check out these aweso …
