About Alexander
My name is Alex, and my passion is teaching music. I offer clients a unique learning experience with customized lesson plans and personalized attention to fit your exact goals and needs. These aren’t just words to me…they are a commitment I make to everyone that I have the pleasure of working with.

Here’s who I am…

I earned a Bachelor's of Music from Berklee College of Music where I studied Bass Performance and Composition. I have years of experience playing upright and electric bass in many styles such as rock, jazz, orchestral, and big band. I’ve studied a variety of instruments over the last 20 years including guitar, bass, drums, ukulele, and piano.

Here’s what I can do for you…

I will give you my full attention and unyielding patience with each and every lesson. Together we will explore the principals of music that
will enable you to learn to play in any style you choose to study. Ultimately my job is not to teach you to play, but to show you how to teach yourself. I will arm you with a thorough understanding of technique and theory.

I love working with kids and adults. I love brand new players with no experience as well as seasoned players who just want to fill in some gaps in their knowledge. Whatever your age, and wherever you’re at with your playing, I hope you will give me the chance to help you have more fun and confidence in music.

Every player I work with gets access to a personal online Lesson Journal where you can see my notes from our lessons, do homework from your “Stuff to work on” lists, and access my entire digital library! Every lesson is designed just for you.

Let’s get started…

You can take lessons at my studio, in your home, or online via Skype.

For lessons in my studio, I can provide instruments and amplifiers for both of us.

There is ample seating for parents to sit in on lessons. Parking is available in the driveway.

You’re going to love your lessons!
-Alex

About Ian
Ian has graduated with an associates of music, along with studying with a handful of Seattle's finest instructors for Jazz guitar. In addition to studying flamenco guitar in Barcelona with the world-renowned Pedro J. Gonzales, Ian is also is a practiced percussion and drums instructor, and trained vocalist. He regularly plays in clubs around Seattle, is frequently employed by local musical theater orchestras, and already teaches a vibrant studio in Northeast Seattle.

I have a six year background of teaching music, which overlaps with a six year background of working at and managing a K-5 after school/summer daycare, so I can especially excel at getting the best out of young students, but love to teach all ages.

*** Lesson Details ***
Depending on your age, experience and musical aspirations, lessons will be approached from va

I try to work music theory in to my lessons, and always assure that my young students have proper music reading skills. Ultimately my goal as a teacher is to have fun connecting and playing the music that my students are passionate about, while simultaneously attempting to introduce them to new concepts and music.

I've been a guitarist since I was eight, an arts tutor since I was 17, and now I'm a professional live musician for several artists signed/affiliated with major record labels. I also self-record my own pop music and gig around Seattle. I teach all ages and a variety of styles--classical, rock, pop, acoustic, bossa nova. I will help train your ear to tap into your body's natural musicality by using a variety of media and exercises. Being a good musician takes time and work, but art is an emotional expression--so we must have fun, no matter what!

About Jake
I'm a contracted studio and touring musician for a major Seattle record label (Barsuk) who has 8 years of experience tutoring the arts to all ages. I’ve played hundreds of shows, and my guitar and bass playing appears on a handful of albums. Since 2009, I've been a part-time K-12 arts tutor with a nonprofit called 826 National. I've taught lots of kids, big and small, the ropes of the fretboard, the chord books, and the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, and musical hearing. I studied theatre and classical guitar at Whitman College, so I can help you improve your technical playing and performative abilities too.

As of May 2017, I'm new to TakeLessons/charging money for teaching privately, so please know how much I appreciate your patronage and audience. I know the importance of a patient, encouraging, knowledgeable teacher when learning t
he arts, and I think I can help you find strength in self-musical expression. Every person is different and every student learns differently; I think the best tutors can be flexible to their students' needs and be able to provide alternative learning solutions when roadblocks appear. We will communicate well with each other about learning goals and tactics, and we will have a LOT of fun on the guitar together! By the end of 5 lessons, I'll help you be more confident and/or versed in your guitar playing, and we'll only have lots more to learn and explore!

I'm a versatile guitarist with 8 years of teaching experience ranging from the elderly to the very young and everything in between.

My philosophy is to inspire the student. Growing up, I quit various instruments because my teachers failed to give me the tools that I needed to go home and have fun practicing. Giving the student these tools, no matter their age or experience level is my number one goal.

About Benjamin
Hi!

My name is Ben, and I can't wait to start playing guitar with you. I have been playing since age 14, and am a recent college graduate. Most of professional experience is as a jazz guitarist, but I have spent a good part of my career playing rock, funk, blues, and folk. Whatever your style and experience is, I would love to work with you to make you a better guitarist and musician. My number one goal is to inspire the student by giving them tools to start having fun in the practice room as soon as possible.

Ben is very talented and very knowledgeable. He was open to covering whatever I was looking to do and has helped me learn some of the basics of soloing on an electric guitar (maj/min scales, pentatonic scales, arpeggios, etc.). Ben has a nice setup in his apartment for lessons and I would recommend him as an instructor.

Had a great first lesson and I highly recommend Benjamin. I have played guitar on and off for years, but I'm currently lost on my journey. I feel like I am back on the right path and I am excited to play again! The lesson was a good mix of basics, coordination exercises and learning one of my favorite songs! Thanks Benjamin, looking forward to next week!

I teach beginner all the way advanced students who are looking to improve as musicians or learn the guitar from square one. What's most important to me as a teacher is helping you achieve your goals in music. I have a decades plus worth of experience teaching and playing guitar and am currently an active member on the Seattle music scene performing at various venues around town; As an educator, I have 8 years of experience teaching students of all levels and styles and my focus for the student is tailoring lessons to best meet students' goals and putting them in the best possible scenario to achieve them.

About Jesse
My name is Jesse and I am a guitarist who lives in Seattle, WA. I graduated from the University of Southern California with Cum Laude Honors in 2015. I maintain a busy schedule of performances accompanying jazz singers in the area and I am on faculty at Cornish College of the Arts as an accompanist in the jazz voice department.

I began teaching beginning guitar lessons to friends and classmates in high school. Ever since I picked up the guitar, I knew it was something that I wanted to pursue professionally because of the joy that it brought me. Being able to share that with other people is something I am very passionate about. I continued teaching beginning guitar and advanced jazz harmony to other guitarists in the music program to help pay tuition in college at USC. I taught at Music and Arts in Redmond during the summer after finish
ing college before moving to the Bothell store within the same organization. I also began teaching at the Andrew White School of Music around the same time. I teach beginners on both guitar and bass as well as jazz improvisation on guitar.

Jazz is a style of music I specialize in and I teach it like teaching a language as I firmly believe that jazz is a language. I teach improvisation to not only guitar, but to all instruments as the concepts are the same. Improvisation lessons are fun and interactive and challenge you to be creative, which is what art is all about!

My teaching method is very flexible, as I am very aware that students learning styles and goals vary greatly. I am a patient teacher who will work to help put a student in a position to be successful and achieve his or her goals through lesson plans and teaching methods tailored to meet the student's learning style. Seeing students succeed and have fun making progress and improving as a musician brings me a lot of joy!

There is nothing more frustrating for a student than feeling like they're treading water trying to teach themselves. My goal is to make the learning process as fun as possible! One of the ways I do that is giving the student the opportunity to experiment with improvisation and explore the instrument during lessons and for when they practice at home to supplement the more formal training. This helps students develop their own individual sound on the instrument from day one, is fun and interactive, and gives the student the chance to be creative when learning a new instrument.

"My mission is to strengthen individuals by helping them build confidence, self esteem, and identity through the gift of music!

About Joshua
ABOUT ME:
My name is Joshua Turner, I have been singing and playing instruments for over 10 years. I have been trained in the styles of rock, pop, blues, R&B, folk, classical, and opera. I got my vocal training from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where I studied voice. I was trained by the best vocal teachers in the country and I have lots of Berklee curriculum to base my teachings off of. I also attended Musicians Institute for guitar study.

MY TEACHING STYLE:
My teaching style is very simple and to the point, the goal is to learn how to use your instrument. I don't like to get too technical about it because it can actually slow your progression down if you do. The simplest way that I was taught to sing is that "if it hurts, you are singing wrong." That is why vocal exercises are so important to keep your voice stro
ng so you can build stamina and avoid pain, I also have audio vocal exercises that I can provide. I don't like to put people down while they are learning because I know that singing and playing an instrument is a really sensitive thing and that could cause the singer or musician to stop singing or playing completely, which defeats the whole purpose. I have experience in all forms of music from live rock shows, to teaching music in pre-schools. I teach confidence!

THE BENEFITS OF MY MUSIC LESSONS:

-Higher self esteem

-Better grades

-More confidence

-Stronger social skills

-And so much more!

You are actually learning all of the above things, while simultaneously learning your instrument! If you follow the lesson plan that I provide you, my GUARANTEE is that you will become a noticeably better musician and singer and unlock a new found confidence within 4 lessons (1 month).

MUSIC EDUCATION:
Musicians Institute- Guitar Performance (April- November 2010)
Berklee College of Music- Vocal Performance (September 2007- May 2009)

AWARDS:
Berklee achievement scholarship (2008)

One of my goals in teaching is to instill 'ownership' in the student; in addition to teaching the fundamentals(chords, strumming/playing technique), I ask them if they have a favorite song that they would like to learn. If they like the songs they are working on, they will have more fun in their lessons.
I do stress practice each day---25 minutes max. I don't want to overwhelm the student with long practice times---consistent daily shorter times work better for the student in my opinion.

About Gary
My name is Gary Benson; I've been playing acoustic guitar for 35+years; I love to as I put it, "play the songs I grew up with." That means I play the songs I've always loved---in my early years up to the present. I play the coffeehouse and community festival circuit, playing the music of James Taylor and other artists of that era up to the present.
My goal is to have you play the songs you like, too….you'll never forget them once you learn!
