About Maria
With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. I left my hometown of Medellin to come to the United States where I performed with the
Texas Christian University Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. Returning to Medellin, I spent the next year with the Eafit Symphonic Orchestra.

Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master's Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.

In Sacramento, I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and with several other chamber groups.

I'm an adult with no prior music experience, however, Maria welcomed me with open arms and a great environment for learning the cello. She is very kind, extremely knowledgeable and I feel very comfortable with her. I also appreciate her music room where she teaches; it's private and allows me to concentrate without environmental/background noises since I can get easily distracted. If you are looking for a great teacher you can't go wrong with Maria!

Experienced violin teacher of 8 years available for students of all ages and levels! 2014 violin performance (Bachelor's) graduate of Butler University and holder of a Master's in violin performance from the University of Oklahoma. I believe every student is different and therefore do not teach one method, but a mix and match of different methods tailored to each student. Depending on the level of the student, I use the following method books: Essential Elements, Suzuki, Solos for Advanced Violinists, and standard repertoire, etudes, and pop music. I also believe that an understanding of music theory is essential for all violinists, so some of my teaching is devoted to theory.
