I feel what makes taking lessons with me unique is my experience teaching private violin and viola lessons in Texas public schools (grades 6-12) and my career as a professional musician having performed in many orchestral, opera, and chamber music settings. Through the lens of that performed experience, I know how crucial an education that includes classical music can be in a student’s overall academic development and maturation. Though not everyone pursues music as a career, no matter the student’s age, I wish to ultimately be a positive support system in fostering their development in their mirrored desirability to make classical music and incorporate it's richness and beauty into their life.

About Michael D.

Howdy!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my page!

I am a musician based in Dallas, TX, and I mainly perform in orchestras across the North Texas and Louisiana area as an orchestral violist, having played professionally for 10 years. I have also traveled abroad and performed in concert halls in other places of the world such as Muscat, Leipzig, Prague and Kraków. As a teacher I have 11 years of experience of working with violin and viola students of a variety of ages, but primarily with students in the middle school to high school age range from North Texas public schools. My students have gone on to high placings in All-State and All-Region competitions and have performed in many solo competitions across the North Texas area.

I invite those who are new or proficient to the violin or viola into my studio. It is my feeling that anyone of any age can play as long as the desire to make music is present. Also note, that as of April 12th, 2021, Michael has been fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine and is available to book in person lessons.

Please message me if you have any questions on how we can get you started exploring your potential on the instrument. I look forward to meeting and engaging with you in discovering and honing your musical talents!

Michael is an amazing teacher. He has deep understanding of fundamentals and subtleties involved in playing violin. It helped me understand and improve my shortcomings all the way from developing correct muscle memory, bowing techniques and producing the right sound. He has been a very patient teacher and inspires you to keep at it. Michael is very detail oriented - this helps to discover subtle flaws in your playing, which are easy to miss. It has been a great learning experience, and am looking forward to more classes.

I'm actually a colleague of Michael's from the Las Colinas Symphony, and freelance work too. But I do learn a lot from the guy, so maybe consider me a student also! He's one of the finest, and most well respected musicians in the orchestra. Super knowledgeable, very creative and fun. Call this guy up, talk to him for 2 minutes, you will see what I mean.

Michael is the rare pairing of a professional performer and fantastic teacher of viola & violin technique. I have seen the benefits of his pedagogy first-hand in my middle school orchestra classroom in Plano ISD. I have been lucky enough to have him teach some of my students for over 3 years. He has helped many of my students overcome barriers in their practicing and performing. With your commitment to putting in quality practice time, lessons with Michael will certainly result in significant musical growth.

Michael Drobycki was really amazing! I went to him for some feedback on my orchestra excerpts before a big audition I was worried for and he had really great advice not only about the music itself but approaching auditions mentally and physically. He also demonstrated a lot of them and his playing was simply inspiring. If you want to really learn how to play viola, Michael is your guy!

I studied with Michael Drobycki during my last two years of high school. In that time he helped me tremendously with my technique and developing my sense of musicality. I was able to make huge amounts of improvement within that time, which allowed me to place into my school’s highest orchestra as well as All-Region placement. Additionally, he helped me find the viola that I concertized on for more than nine years. He continues to be one of my mentors to this day.
