Teaching drums professionally since 1998, Aaron has influenced hundreds of budding musicians to get the most from their instrument. He has studied privately with Rob Laytham (Modern Drummer columnist), Joe Leroux (marching band guru), Gary Chaffe (legendary drummer) and many others throughout the years. He has taken the best techniques and teaching styles from his influences and molded them together to form what he considers to be the most effective and inspiring method available.

I teach drum set in nearly every style and hybrid imaginable, as well as percussion and drum circle facilitation.

Accomplishments include recording 7 albums with various groups, touring with national acts across the west coast, drumming for the Warner Brothers Television house band, and still actively playing live shows and recording.

I put my focus on inspiring students to explore their own creativity with the tools and techniques that I give to them and nurture. I think it is very important to cover the basic skills that the school districts expect from their music students (sight reading, proper technique, note recognition, rudiments, timing, feel, etc.). I also feel it is important for a student to find his or her style and an ability to use the fundamentals to create music that they enjoy. He has written a method book based on the fundamentals of playing a rhythmic instrument with an emphasis on allowing the student to find their niche and lead a group through a piece of music or tastefully support it.

My studios are fully equipped with sound systems, the latest recording gear, acoustic and electric sets, hand drums and dozens of other percussion instruments. I believe that the more resources a person can draw from, be it intellectual or physical, the more fulfilling the learning experience will be.

Each lesson, my students will take at least a page of music that represents the concept that they are focusing on, and a goal set to accomplish by the end of the week so that they can build upon what they already know in an effort to put the big picture together. Ultimately the student will learn when and how to utilize the concepts that they are practicing.

A Yamaha electronic drum set in my Mesa Studio allows me to control volume and dial up any sound imaginable. I have full acoustic drum sets in other studios that I use for recording and private lessons. Often I will integrate guitar, keyboard, or other instruments in to the lessons if needed.

I completed musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of San Juan, Puerto Rico and graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE, with Majors in Musical Education and as a Performing Artist.
I am a qualified multilingual Music Instructor.
I have performed as a guitarist with several orchestras, musical groups, bands and as classical guitar soloist I have given numerous recitals and concerts.
I have worked as a Music Educator at the Social & Pedagogic Academic Institutes teaching pedagogic & didactic principles to teachers and at the same time I have been teaching classical and popular guitar at all levels and ages at several other music schools.

About Jared
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.

I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music the
ory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.

I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.

Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.

My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.

Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.

Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.

I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.

All this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.

It was quite an interesting one for my kids especially those playing the piano for the first time. He is such an experience and patient teacher and I highly recommend him to any beginner who is interested in playing the piano.

About Albino
Albino was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.

Drawn to the sounds of neighborhood street musicians in Maputo, Albino began to play in a number of local bands. As with his home-made guitar, Albino wanted to combine styles and incorporate diverse elements in his music. For his talents to grow, he knew he needed experience new places, cultures, and sounds.

While studying music education and Performance at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he heard about the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA, where he could expand his musical horizons
. Soon after, he was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts.

At Berklee, he was exposed to a variety of influences, but wanted to go deeper into the roots of jazz and expand his knowledge of music. He auditioned and was selected to participate in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which is directed by Danilo Perez and the residency teachers, including Joe Lovano John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The Institute emphasizes an artist's original vision in jazz, and has helped Albino find his own unique voice in the art form.

Albino still felt the absence of his own Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the United States of America today, he began to bridge that gap.

Today, Albino's music succeeds in combining many disparate parts into an organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-Jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.

Albino's original composition “Mozambique Dance” was recorded by Jazz Revelation Records, a student-run record label at the Berklee College of Music, for the 8th annual album released in 2011. He also recorded “Awusiwana,” his own composition, for the Berklee 2012 summer album. His debut album, also called Mozambique Dance, is to be released in Spring 2013.

Albino is an active musician, and has performed in several countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Italy, the U.S., and Mexico. He has also produced and recorded various projects in Mozambique and in the United States. In 2012, he will graduate from Berklee College with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and Performance, and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

After understanding a student's level and what their interests with ukulele are, we pick out suitable music to use for lessons, as the student progresses. I like to experiment, so, after the student gains a good understanding of playing a song, I like to go over various ways of playing the song to explore other kinds of expression through the ukulele. With this approach, my students may learn to bring logic (technique, scales, theory) and feeling (how music is played) together. I strive to make it a fun experience so that motivation is well-maintained and progress takes place. If desired, I can include singing in the lessons!

*In order to avoid an awkward schedule, I have limited my availability to a few evenings during the week. However, I am open to working another time that may work best for you.*

I have experience working with people individually and in groups, as an undergrad Psychology intern, a cognitive skills trainer, a counseling student, an adjunct instructor and an academic coach. As an undergrad intern, I worked with elementary school children as a tutor and a mentor. As a counseling student, I have worked with various populations, from grade school students (grades 4-8; making healthier choices) to adults (stress, anxiety, career decisions, bereavement, etc.) to older adults in hospice care. I have facilitated psycho-educational groups with individuals suffering from a mental illness as well. Lastly, I worked with college students at a local u
niversity as an academic coach. In this role, I helped students process concerns and create goals regarding developing time management skills, coping strategies for anxiety, study skills, information processing and motivation. These experiences have helped me gain a continually growing understanding of facilitating the learning process with individuals and with groups.

I teach student development classes (critical thinking, motivation theory, study strategies, time management, stress management, etc.) at a local community college, I teach a learning and development class (views of learning, motivation, the memory process, memory strategies, critical issues in education, etc.) at a local university, and I work as an academic coach at another local university.

As the information above may suggest, I hold education to such a high, passionate regard. It is what promotes a healthy, well-informed society. As an auto-didactic learner, I believe that everyone has the ability to learn anything one desires. It is a matter of how one approaches it. Therefore, my approach is one that is peculiar to each of the individuals I work with.

I present concepts with the idea that the combination of experience, discourse, and meaning-making is the key to learning. This aside from my teaching tools based on the views of learning. With an aversion towards cookie-cutter approaches, I maintain an open mind to my invariably evolving approach of sharing knowledge and insight with others. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COACHING: Using my insight gained as a counseling student, I am happy to offer my personal development coaching service. In this role, I help individuals develop their path of change, making sure motivation and focus is well-maintained. I provide a judgment-free and understanding atmosphere for one to reflect and process concerns as well as work towards making personal changes (e.g. self-actualization, career, anxiety management, lifestyle, life changes) from an existential perspective. I believe that such a space should be available for everyone, so I am especially happy to provide it.

My approach to personal development coaching is based on my therapeutic orientation called Gestalt Therapy (GT). The underlying idea of GT is that awareness is the key initiator of change. Awareness allows one to discern where such things as anxiety, unhappiness, ambivalence, etc. stem from. I believe that it is important for every human being to go through such a process so that peace and awareness within brings peace and awareness to the outer world. I am inspired by and influenced by the ideas of Carl Jung (Analytical Psychology- particularly the Psychological Types) and Carl Rogers (Client-Centered Therapy). I work with grade school students and adults. ACADEMIC COACHING/STUDY SKILLS: Using my passion for education and my insight gained in my few years (so far) immersed in the world of education, I help students (grade school and college) develop areas of their academic life needing improvement. As suggested above, I help students develop time management, learning strategies, coping strategies for anxiety, and motivation (i.e. help them to see the value of learning). Though it is a valuable tool, it is presently not a service that is offered at most schools in the area.

WRITING: As a lover of reading and writing, I understand the value of expressing thoughts, feelings and ideas. As a writer, my focus is on creative writing (mostly short stories presently) and essays. Given my undergraduate and postgraduate experiences, I have written many academic papers, in APA format and in MLA format. I edit and revise papers as well as help individuals develop their writing voice, develop their ideas, develop an approach to structuring writing, maintain consistency with writing and provide genuine feedback. Beyond that, my help with writing is limited to the goals of the the individual.

TWO IMPORTANT THINGS: I strive to maintain a positive collaboration with those I work with. I believe this is one of the most important parts of the process. Also, I promote the idea of Soul. To me, Soul is any sincere display of passion. With Soul, we perform in a most genuine and graceful way. I personally believe that whether one is playing the piano, writing a story, living life, singing, giving a speech or anything (necessarily peaceful), one should do it with Soul.

LASTLY, I am open to: Going beyond my travel radius, at an agreed-upon adjusted rate; working with multiple students, at an agreed-upon adjusted rate; meeting at a public place that is convenient, if it is preferred; and meeting at a student's location, depending on the preferred time and the distance.

I have to give Andrew 5 stars for the first lesson. He really cares about meeting goals specific to the person he is teaching. He started out with some basic exorcises that I can do at home and then we talked about how the lessons can be structured in the future for what I think I need to improve. He was very nice and I highly recommend him!

Students learn notation, tab, theory and chords. They will play entire songs along with recordings by their favorite artists. Later they will learn how to improvise a solo or play one from a recording. Fingerpicking styles will also be taught as well as how to chord in the correct style for the music.

Other students may have a specific goal and a custom curriculum will be created to get them there fast.

Students are encouraged to listen, keep solid rhythm, try different styles, and have fun.

Hi. My name is Mike J. I am a full time music instructor with over 30 years of experience teaching, performing and writing music. I teach both steel string guitar (acoustic or electric) and classical (nylon string) guitar as well as the electric bass and the ukulele.

I incorporate music theory into my lessons but can also teach theory by itself.

I cover rock, folk, pop, blues, jazz, gospel, country or classical. I teach fingerpicking and flat-picking. I strive to find a good balance each lesson between the study of reading, technique and music theory and learning songs you know and like.

I have had excellent results with this approach so that typically ¼ of my students have stayed and studied with me for over 3 years!

I have learned so much from Mike in almost a year. He knows so much about the guitar and music theory. Without Mike I would not have progressed as much as I have. Mike has been awesome and very patient. He listens to me when I tell him what I need to work on. I would recommend him a million times over!!!

The ukulele is an extremely fun, easy and popular instrument to pick up, especially for kids! Many of the techniques and concepts learned can be transferred over to the guitar, bass, or even piano and violin. My teaching style is entirely student-oriented, and I adapt my material based on what you want to learn. I often use my music theory background as a supplement, and occasionally I will give handouts and homework. Students will need their own instrument and gear, and a notebook or binder!

Hello and welcome to my teacher profile! My name is Dillon S.

I am a music and art teacher, and I have earned my Associate's degree in Music Education at MDC with a focus on jazz guitar. I have a fairly diverse experience in different genres of music (primarily worship/church music, but also rock, pop, punk/metal, jazz and others). I have also sung and played guitar, drums, and bass in numerous bands throughout the years (currently, drummer/percussionist for The Fortune Tellers in Miami, FL).

I have always had a deep love for art, and am currently working on my Bachelor of Science in K-12 Art Education. I have a particular interest in figure drawing/portraiture (charcoal, graphite, India ink), landscape and still life painting (acrylic and oil paint), and both digital and film photography.

I am hoping to improve my teaching skill
s through this platform and impart knowledge onto others. I am laid-back and a kid at heart, and I find it important to teach with a sense of humor. For the record, I'm also a huge geek. I enjoy video games, superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, animals (I myself have two cats), board games, cartoons/anime, technology/science... I also love traveling! My experience with Dillon has been very good. He's a great instructor. Takes the time to tailor the lessons to my needs and has given me material that has helped my playing a lot.

Dillon is an outstanding music teacher who is very good in teaching his students multiple areas of music ( theory, rhythm, notation) in order to take their instrument playing to the next level. I have been a beginner Ukelele student of Dillon for a few months and have seen a significant advancement in my learning and skill playing of the ukelele. Overall, he is a very patient teacher who deeply understands music and takes the necessary time to work on the different areas where he sees opportunity for his students to improve their musical instruments playing.

I believe the ukulele is the perfect introductory instrument for kids and teens as well as adults looking for an easy way to learn something new! I love teaching various strumming and picking patterns that can be applied directly to the songs my students want to learn. I also enjoy teaching jazz tunes as well as helping my students write their own songs!

About Rosanna
At a young age, I began performing in musical theater productions with the Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh at the Benedum and Byham Theaters. Throughout high school, I continued performing in school and community theater musical productions. In college I was the lead vocalist in the jazz band, historian of the choir, and led an all female acapella group. During this time, I also discovered a love for writing original music and formed an acoustic duo called Scott and Rosanna. I graduated from college in December 2013 with an art education degree.

I began teaching private voice lessons during my senior year in college in 2012, and absolutely love the honor of empowering young, aspiring singers to be the best vocalists they can be. I focus on creating engaging, student-based lessons catered to each individual's goals. My experience tea
ching in a classroom setting has given me the experience and ability to understand how to scaffold lessons and track progress. Many people have a misconception that a good singing voice is either something 'you have or you don't', but I don't believe that's true! It just takes practice and an open mind!

Rosanna is a wonderfully talented vocalist and teacher. I am the owner of From The Top Music Shop in Monongahela Pa, and we are fortunate to have her teaching here.
