My goal is not so much teaching one how to play an instrument, but more broadly, to help one cultivate their own living musicality. My own areas of practice, study, and specialization are in free improvisation, sound art/Sonic sculpture, conceptual performance, and songwriting/composition. I've explored a vast number of different styles and genre. Jazz, classical, folk and bluegrass, spirituals, blues, punk rock, contemporary ghospel, electronic dance and ambient, to name a few... I love working with kids, I love teaching any age any skill level, I promise to listen, and fine tune our lesson to fit your specific personality and needs.

My guitar lessons have an emphasis on rhythmic and harmonic training (how things sound and feel). Building a sense of melody and musicality are also a strong focus. This is accomplished through learning and playing familiar songs, reading different kinds of music, and improvising/composing. All the while, we will be building a relaxed and natural approach to the instrument.

About Daniel

I am currently only offering virtual lessons. Hello! My name is Daniel and I have been playing and teaching guitar and bass (electric and upright) in all styles for over 15 years. I even have a Masters Degree and a Bachelors in music to show for it. My students have the benefit of highly custo

Taking Electric Bass Guitar lessons with Dan Brown, has been a great experience. Dan listened to my goals and tailored the lessons around my ability and musical influences. His classes are well structured, but also relaxed. Dan has incredible knowledge of the Bass and has encouraged me in all styles of play including slap Bass. I have no hesitation in recommending Dan to anyone interested in learning Bass.

Incredibly knowledgeable in physical techniques required for guitar; He is a master of all the subjective hands-on knowledge you can't learn from a video or a book, like individual hand/wrist placement, strength building, muscle memory, string bending. His curriculum is excellent for developing the raw ability to play as desired.

We initially did lessons in person then transitioned to Skype once I moved away. I found no difference between in-person or Skype.
Alex
Before I became a student under my teacher, I thought that my previous teacher was good. However, looking back, my first teacher (Not Robert Grant), was horrible. The one distinct difference between many of the casual guitar teachers and Robert is that he has a great curriculum for teaching kids and adults the proper techniques, different styles, and practices for playing the guitar. I remember on the first lesson, he immediately commented my wrong form for my picking hand. Since then he has assisted me in correcting bad technique, pursuing my strengths and passions, and expanding my knowledge in music theory, both specific for guitar and for music in general. His curriculum is equal if not better than many college courses for music(classical, jazz, etc. courses). I have been with him for 3-4 years now and I find myself greatly improved from when I first started. I would recommend going to Robert if you want to seriously learn how to play the guitar with a brilliantly structured course.
Justin
I've been playing guitar for 28 years and Robert has done more to advance my playing in the last 5 months than anything else I've done over that time. Whether online or in person, Robert has a great mix of laid back attitude with a task-master's approach; he encourages his students to have fun with the guitar, but to take it and their work with it seriously. In a really short time, I've picked up a wealth of music theory and my technique has improved dramatically. Most importantly, I'm having more fun playing than I have in years. I can't recommend Robert highly enough.

"Solid Friendly Moldable - Genuine

Eric, is a wonderful guy to work with. He is thorough and goes above an beyond the call of duty. I could tell that he really cared about what he was teaching me and WANTED me to be the best I could be. He is ultra genuine and down to earth. Everything I learned from him has been vital in the paid gigs I've received as a guitarist and also in my own passion projects."

"Chis was a great teacher - very patient, knowledgeable, and inspiring. He was very invested in helping us (two adults in our thirties) learn guitar amid a slightly chaotic background with kids and a dog. Nothing phased him: he was always on time, positive, and good-natured. My husband initially took lessons with Chris at our house, and after several months, I was so inspired and decided to give it a shot too! I learned so much in just a few weeks. He is also now teaching my nephew - an 8-year old. To say the least, Chris is exceptional and I would recommend him to anyone!!"

Not just cord and scales but the transitions from one cord to another and how various artist use these combinations. Also, tips on how to get the fingers to the more difficult positions on the neck of the guitar."

"Joseph was able to instruct me on jazz music which was new to me. He was very patient in getting me to play chords that I never did before and to do progressions up and down the neck of the guitar. He made it seem easy after a while, even though it was tough to grasp at first. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar!"

"Jedi Training. That's what I like to call my guitar lessons. Because Trevor teaches you how to use the force. I like how Trevor gets me out of my left brain with exercises like closing my eyes while I pick out chords & notes. He know how to push me past my comfort zone while still keeping it fun.

The topics of lessons aren't one size fits all (like some teachers that teach the same thing every week to all their students) But he tailors each lessons to my interests & deftly weaves all aspects of music together from theory, to chord structure, to picking, to levitating x-wings using your mind."

5 Tips for Smooth and Efficient Guitar Chord Transitions

Beginning guitar lessons is an exciting thing - learning the notes, building your first chord, and of course, playing your first song.  However, it's not all sunshine and roses.  Learning to play takes commitment, practice and the motivation to get over some common beginner hurdles.  First, the painful process of building calluses can drive many to stop practicing.  Second, there's always that awkward stage of learning to seamlessly transition to different chords.  You know the drill -  pr …
