For kids and adults, any level welcome! I've noticed that especially for young children ukulele is a good transitional instrument in order to then start guitar. I use fun exercise and songs to teach technique and I welcome any style and any songs you may want to learn!

Self-taught player of six years. This instrument is a perfect choice for amateur musicians, especially those looking to accompany themselves while they sing. Very simple to pick up, and great for small hands! I individualize my lessons to the student's preferred styles of music, but all receive a foundation in chords, melody, finger technique, and strum patterns.

About Alexandra

I am a Hampton Roads native holding a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Lee University (Cleveland, TN). I am licensed to teach instrumental and vocal music to grades K-12 and have seven years' experience privately teaching students ages 4 to adult. I currently teach elementary Strings classes

I believe that learning music should be as fun and inspiring as it can be to play, and the Ukulele is a great first instrument for people interested in learning to play any stringed instrument.

We all have a vast wellspring of creative energy within us, and the goal of the relationship between the student and the teacher is to help nurture and develop that latent talent. For this reason, my approach to teaching music is highly individualized. I start out with the premise that the student has unique gifts and my job is to help them discover what those are, and develop and refine them in order to make beautiful and deeply satisfying music, through whatever instrument and in whatever style they are drawn towards.

Depending on one's starting level of ...

"My sessions have been nothing but fun! I started playing the ukulele to relieve stress and classes with Zelda has made that possible. Going over chords, correct finger positioning, tempo, and playing popular songs has been exciting and I don't feel pressured. Each lesson is created to match my pace and gradually becomes more difficult as I improve. But, her instruction allows me to pick up the new skills with ease. Since taking classes, I feel I finally have a outlet to relieve stress from work/family through the rhythmic sounds of my ukulele. I would highly recommend this instructor for novice or veteran music lovers."
