Hello! My name is Emily & I've been playing the Violin for almost 30 years & teaching for 15. I teach all levels & ages. I'm currently working on my Suzuki Book 1 teacher certification as an apprentice with a master teacher.

My specialty is contemporary styles of music (pop, rock, jazz, improv) and I'm also an avid fiddle player (primary focus on Irish & Scottish music). I graduated from USC's Thornton School of Music with a degree in Popular Music (a music performance degree focused on playing in contemporary styles).

Are you interested in learning how to write your own music? Play with a band? Learn your favorite songs on the violin? I would love to help you with this & more!

I focus on good technique (intonation, posture, relaxed playing) within whatever style of music you're pursuing.

Let me help you bring creativity to your instrument.

About Emily

A product of fiddle camps, late night jam sessions, and extensive Bach technique, Emily is at the forefront of an emerging scene of contemporary violin players. A third generation Southern California native, Emily was drawn to the violin almost immediately upon discovering its existence, and has on

I have been taking violin lessons with Alberto for about a year. I made a good progress on the goals set thanks to the efforts, dedication, patience, constance and passion he puts on his work. One can feel he enjoys teaching and encouraging the students to love their instrument and the music they can get from it. He is simply the best music teacher I have had and I would highly recommend him.

I had my first violin lesson on Sunday with Tarcisio. He is an excellent violin teacher and I highly recommend him. He has a very mild manner and style of teaching which put me at ease and provided a level of comfort in feeling somewhat relaxed and free to play and learn from mistakes, unlike my other teachers who were much more critical. Tarcisio was totally focused on my playing. Within the first 10 minutes of my lesson, I played the first movement of Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor. Although he said I played very well, I think he was being nice for the first lesson. He then highlighted a few specific technical challenges and how I could overcome them. I especially enjoyed the way he explained, demonstrated and then allowed me to practice techniques to improve my playing. He taught me 3 new things that I never known before, making the lesson very valuable. I also REALLY like Tarcisio's method of teaching. Unlike a lot of academic conservatory teachers, he focuses on the music you are motivated to play and then provides instruction on the style and technical methods of playing a specific musical piece. He provided me with a detailed written homework assignment that was very prescriptive to what I need in order to improve my playing the Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor. His emphasis is not on endless hours of practicing scales, exercises and etudes from the books, he provides tailored assignments to improve style and technique to master playing a real piece of music of MY choice! I've never had this before in a teacher and really appreciate it. I was impressed with Tarcisio after my first lesson and certainly will continue working with him weekly. We have scheduled a specific hour every week for my lessons future lessons. This keeps me motivated to practice regularly with mindful focus and attention to progress quickly. Although everyone is different in who and what they prefer in a teacher, I specifically prefer Tarcisio's coaching style of teaching rather than the more authoritative style of most teachers I've had in the past. Based upon his professional level and skill in playing, I believe the lessons are well worth $65 for 60 minutes as well.

"We had our first lesson with Yakov last week (2 four year olds), and he was wonderful. Not only did he teach them a lot about their instruments (violin), but he was able to keep them engaged and interested for the full hour. Both kids cannot wait to go back and my son even asked me why his lesson is only once a week!"

"Dimitry displays an exceptional talent and contagious enthusiasm for teaching. He consistently brings the same energy to each and every single one of his lessons. Rather than sitting in a chair and throwing suggestions out for an hour, he is always on his feet interacting with his students.I have noticed how Dimitry constantly polishes his own playing. He exhibits the discipline to relentlessly improve even after reaching the most advanced level of his craft. On multiple occasions, I have arrived minutes late to lessons only to see him taking advantage of every possible minute to work on his own technique and repertoire. I view this as one of the keys to his effective teaching. As a result of his persistent self-improvement and reflection, his advice to his students precisely reflects his own work ethic as a violinist. His dedication gives him an unparalleled ability to comprehend his students’ struggles, and ultimately relate them to his own experiences as a performer . As a result of my studies with Dimitry, my playing has reached heights that I never believed to be possible. My proudest and most exciting moments have come as a result of my opportunities in classical music, and I owe them all to Dimitry."
