I teach violin / fiddle not through one method or genre but a unique blend of various styles, each one taking a fundamental seat in a broader performance curriculum. For example, beautiful classical pieces form our most baseline technique while country western or bluegrass make for a strong and agile bow, not to mention having some tricks to merry up the campfire or front porch gatherings. Pop / Blues / Jazz and Rock n Roll are perfect genres for prospective improvisors and future stage performers. From Lindsey Stirling to Charlie Daniel's Band to Stephane Grapelli I enjoy teaching towards the goals and dreams of every student.

About Kelly

Kelly began studying violin at age four through the Suzuki Method. At age 18, she moved to New York City and made a living primarily as a street performer, playing  jazz standards in the Subway and Central Park.    She began studying jazz violin at The New School for Contemporary Music, and perform

Kelly is a very talented and skilled violin player. She makes the lessons very relaxed and is great at teaching online, I've found the lessons so useful as I'm a complete beginner at the fiddle. She's extremely knowledgeable and knows all there is know about the violin/fiddle, I can not reccomend her enough.

Kelly is a wiz at the fiddle, and just a music genius all together. She has taught me so many things that have helped me with my skills, and makes it feel easy. She’s also very patient, which makes me feel at more comfortable with the learning process. Anyone would be very lucky to have her for their teacher!

I have 10 years of teaching experience and teach beginning to intermediate violin lessons. Violin was the first instrument I learned to play and I especially enjoy working with beginning string players. Developing a good ear for pitches and proper playing technique are extremely important for string players and I focus on these areas foremost. Each lesson is customized for the student’s age, interest, and technical level.

About Linnea

I am a freelance oboist, reed maker, and music teacher in the Seattle area. My teaching studio is currently based in Everett. I have eight years of teaching experience and love working with students of all ages. My primary instrument is oboe, but I also have a passion for teaching beginning viol

Violin:
A wooden stringed instrument in the violin family; it is the smallest and highest-pitched. The violin typically has four strings tuned in perfect fifths, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow across its strings, though it can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato). Violins are important instruments in a wide variety of musical genres. They are most prominent in the Western classical tradition and in many varieties of folk music. They are also frequently used in genres of folk including country music and bluegrass music and in jazz. Electric violins are used in some forms of rock music; further, the violin has come to be played in many non-Western music cultures, including Indian music and Iranian music. The violin is sometimes informally called a fiddle, particularly in Irish traditional music and bluegrass, but this nickname is also used regardless of the type of music played on it.
Lessons always start with the basics: Tuning, hand/bow

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

I started working with Mona at Oberlin College Conservatory, and continued working with her through video chat during the Covid-19 stay-at-home orders. She was basically my first private instructor, and she really helped me a lot. I'd gotten as far as I could with self-teaching and poor public school music programs, and was doing my best to keep up with the Oberlin Arts and Sciences Orchestra. She managed to help me work on my challenging orchestra music while instructing me on foundational technique (such as bow control, sound quality, and hand form) that I missed out on when I first started playing. She was always friendly and flexible, and gave out a good ratio of praise and critique. I'm going to miss her at Oberlin next year!

"Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from."

I have seen her flourish as a performer, having attended a number of her soloist and orchestral events. At the same time, it has been exciting to see how she very effectively leverages her passion and technical violin skills with her natural gift for teaching. She’s able to build a true rapport with her students by being involved and really caring about their self confidence and growth as players and performers."

"Being a teacher of young children myself, I know when children are responsive to a teacher and when a teacher is responsive to her students. I have had the fortunate opportunity to witness Jill’s remarkable violin teaching style many times. Using an approach that is creative, spontaneous and joyful, Jill combines the deep knowledge of her craft for both playing and teaching violin. Jill has developed a unique and dynamic teaching philosophy which captures the best of a learning experience. She is able to offer each student exactly what is needed to be successful. And how does one measure success? Each student can not wait to come back the following week!"
