She has performed in world class venues such as Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Kosciuszko Foundation, as well as the Museum of Natural History, and she has performed with over thirty different chamber ensembles, including the American String Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Her career developments are primarily in music, but she also pursues interest in creative writing, journal writing and human rights. She has given many community performances and raised charity funds for organizations such as World Vision, A. G. Catherine initially gained her musical inspiration through her family and has been performing since her youth. Her family provided

her countless opportunities to perform, to participate in event planning, and to experiment with new music and arranging. She grew up participating in her mother's studio recitals at home and enjoys an annual family tradition of organizing and performing Christmas programs at church. One of Catherine's projects during her studies at the Manhattan School of Music was the Symposium Concert Series, which has led her to perform in apartment homes around the city and build a community of young artists. She has made countless arrangements for solo viola and viola with various ensembles which she often performs.

Catherine resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Lawrence. She plays on a Raymond J. Melanson viola made in 1987.

I had a great experience because Catherine is an amazing instructor.
She taught lessons with a high degree of professionalism and care. As a novice, I was able to learn a lot because Catherine was patient and attentive to my learning style.

My two oldest children (one more advanced in piano than the other) began taking lessons with Catherine just this year. They have both shown significant improvement and love her as an instructor. They also look forward to practicing in between lessons. We could not be happier.

I have been playing violin since the age of 6. One day I had to make the difficult decision choosing between violin and piano, because both instruments are very dear to me. I chose violin as my primary instrument for its lyrical qualities and closeness to human voice. At the age of 13 I won the Saint Petersburg Violin Competition and performed with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic.
I am excited to share my love for this instrument with my students no matter what age they are. I see each person as an individual who has their own artistic voice and I will help you to further develop it.
I have won Gartoff International Violin Competition, Freiburg International Violin Competition, Dalhousie Solo Competition, Halifax Rose Bowl, Roosevelt Violin Competition and most recently competed in Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China, where my quartet placed 3rd. Recently I performed the Brahms Violin Concerto in the Symphony Centre downtown Chicago with Roosevelt ...

About Artem

Hello dear students! My name is Artem and I have been playing violin since I was 4 years old and am a freelance musician, composer and pedagogue.
I am passionate about teaching because I believe education and willingness to learn is an extremely important factor for personal development and success.
I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia and underwent intensive training in voice, violin, composition and piano. After winning the Frieburg Intenational Violin Competition in 2010, I was offered a full scholarship to study music at Dalhousie University at the age of sixteen. After moving to Canada I went through a 9-month intensive english learning program, so I know first hand how difficult it can be to learn a new language. This experience helped me understand the struggles that any ESL student goes through and discover new way

s to teach Russian and English to others.
I am excited to get to know you and share my knowledge with you!

I love teaching music! Over the years I have learned to be flexible with each student and direct my teaching in a way that is most beneficial to how they learn. It’s also important to me that lessons are enjoyable and that we work on whatever you want to most accomplish on your instrument. Together we will find a way to make progress and have fun!

About Rachael

Hey there! I’m Rachael and I LOVE teaching music. I have been playing the violin and piano for two decades now and teaching for almost as long. I attended the University of Georgia and earned my Bachelor’s degree in music education in 2011. I have taught general music, middle and high school orchestra, and have most recently focused my attention on teaching private lessons. I really enjoy one on one time with my students. It allows me to figure out the best and most effective way to help YOU! I generally teach from a set curriculum for violin and piano but I am open to incorporating music that you may want to learn. I like to keep my lessons light and fun so expect to hear some bad jokes and share a few laughs. You get out of lessons what you put into them. Practice outside of lessons is a must to keep things rolling along. I hope to conn

ect with you soon!

"I'm still very grateful that I found Megan and feel blessed to have this opportunity to work with her. Today my irritation with my progress was very high
heading into the lesson but she rightly met it with patience and compassion, trying to understand my complaint and adjust the lesson plan to fit my needs. I'm realizing that learning to read, write, speak, and listen to music is not an even process. I'm having growth spurts with feelings of exuberance and then flutter to utter confusion. Overall I think that's probably pretty normal, for me anyway, because I care so much about what I'm doing. This is not an easy topic. I hope to feel more comfortable with the parts of it that are burdening me by this time next year; I'll probably be overwhelmed by something out of my scope of the moments consideration like composing music I want to play and hear. Thank you Megan."

Shaky Arm Syndrome: Violinists and Stage Fright

By Suzy S.

It's one thing to experience stage fright.  But imagine being up on stage, trying to hold your violin steady and place your bow correctly, when your arm is shaking like a leaf during the fiercest Chicago winds. The mind is a powerful thing, and the physical effects that nerves can have on the body are sometimes overwhelming. Let one negative thought slip, and you might find your heart racing, your palms sweating, and your shoulders tensing - none of which are good for your playing. So how …
