I teach violin at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, mostly to novice players, and I have experience teaching violin to children of all ages.

My primary instrument is guitar, which I've played for about 25 years in many different bands, styles, and genres. I studied music and classical guitar at University of Central Florida, and during that time I also helped teach violin to a class of third graders. I'm not a pro violinist, but I have plenty of experience working with novice players, helping them develop proper technique, sight reading, ear training, and other skills needed to advance to the next level.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.

She grew up participating in her mother's studio recitals at home and enjoys an annual family tradition of organizing and performing Christmas programs at church. One of Catherine's projects during her studies at the Manhattan School of Music was the Symposium Concert Series, which has led her to perform in apartment homes around the city and build a community of young artists. She has made countless arrangements for solo viola and viola with various ensembles which she often performs.

Catherine resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Lawrence. She plays on a Raymond J. Melanson viola made in 1987.

It was truly a pleasure meeting Concetta for my first ever violin lesson. It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

I've been teaching violin privately and in groups for 7 years. My most recent teaching experience was volunteering in Haiti last summer, where I taught at three different summer camps. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to hold the instrument and as time goes on you'll be able to play simple to more advanced melodies. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Katie
Hello potential student! My name is Katie and I can't wait to meet you. I have been teaching violin lessons since 2008 and have loved helping my students develop a passion for music and a stronger connection to the world around them. I graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2015 with a Masters of Music, and the University of Michigan in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music. I have experience teaching private and group lessons, from beginner to advanced. This past year I worked with New York City teaching organizations that included Harmony Program, Opus 118 Harlem School of Music and Ethical Culture Fieldston School. I am a bubbly, patient, open-minded person, and my teaching style is flexible, creative but methodical. I look forward to helping you reach your goals! :)

Katie was a wonderful violin teacher for my son (four years old at the time). Katie knew how to make learning music and the violin fun through games and various activities. She was attentive and patient, kind and encouraging. She worked with us to allow him to participate in the annual recital--she played a simple, beautiful song while he plucked an open string. She is reliable, accessible, and caring. Couldn't ask for a better, more qualified, and dynamic teacher than Katie to facilitate a positive musical experience a young child.

I greatly enjoyed my violin lessons with Katie. She improved my violin technique, encouraged me to tackle challenging solo pieces, and helped me prepare for youth orchestra auditions. She also guided me in producing video recordings for my college applications. On top of that, she is extremely patient and cheerful. Katie is the best!

Strings have always been a great love of mine--violin takes dedication of posture to be comfortable, and a comfortable sound is a beautiful one. It is important that you select a teacher who can really push you towards a beautiful tone and musical expression, as well as one who knows what they are doing regarding the fine details of technique.

About Ari
My name is Ari Fiekowsky, I'm 22 years old.

Currently I'm studying at Kean University, for a degree in Music Education K-12 with Teacher Certification.

I am a 3.8 GPA student who has been studying cello since I was 8 and piano since I was 3, and the other strings instruments since I was 15. I have always been good at all subjects, but have had a love for music. Music can benefit the brain in incredible ways, especially for children! Please ask me about these benefits and I can give you supportive academic research.

I have a permissive teaching style that is sensitive to developmental disability and mental illness, but also can be quite harrowing and strict if you have the desire to truly become a great musician. I practice all my instruments daily--I expect my students to do the same. :)

My specialties are strings, music the
ory, and piano. I'm very energetic and expect genuine effort from all my students. I try to make things fun, so I hope you try too!

-- Zeynep Alpan Biography --

Turkish American violinist, Zeynep A, started studying the violin at the age of 5 as part of her music therapy treatment for her diagnosis of speech delay and Auditory Processing Disorder. Almost immediately after being introduced to the violin, Zeynep began to speak and following a year and a half of violin studies, she had her first solo appearance with Vivaldi’s A minor Violin Concerto, after winning the Peabody Concerto Competition.

As a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, Zeynep has appeared in a myriad of venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Mariinsky II Theatre, and Strathmore Hall. Future engagements include performing as a soloist with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey during their 2019 USA Tour and recording a CD with the Turkish recording label, Lila Muzik.

Zeynep is the first prize winner in many competitions, some of which include the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Dorothy DeLay Fellowship Competition at the Aspen Music Festival and School, the National Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and the Goldie and Feder Memorial String Competition. Their mission is to be of service as artists and citizens to organizations that work to fight hunger. Along with a school-wide food drive, they gave their first benefit concert in November 2013 at the Juilliard School. Zeynep is also a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow, a Gluck Community Service Fellow, and a Music Advancement Program Fellow.

My daughter had the pleasure of taking lessons with Zeynep this past summer in the PALS program in Aspen. She loved each week when it was lesson time. This is what Addison had to say, "She always would say the area I needed to work on nicely. I loved that she gave me knew things to learn at each lesson. If I didn't understand, she would keep encouraging me until I did." This was an excellent experience!
