First thing I do before first day of class is send out a welcoming greeting via email and call a few days before first lesson. We Briefly discuss and establishing the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy,technical,and intellectual competencies the students should achieve by the end of a period is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during class. Music lessons include: warm ups, exercises, technical and theory work, solfeggio (sight-singing), ear training, repertoire musical coaching, composition writing, preparation for performances and more.

With 6 years of playing and performance experience, Liz shares her knowledge of ukulele in the styles of folk, pop, rock, reggae, and jazz.

Ukulele is a great instrument for everyone to play. It's an easy way for kids or adult beginners to get started playing music. In ukulele lessons, I will teach you how to read melody lines and tablature as well as chords and rhythms. You will be accompanying yourself in no time!

I have been teaching a variety of fretted stringed instruments, for over 25 years. Ukulele is a fun and easy instrument for beginners of any age to learn! I teach chords, strumming, finger-picking, and melody lines, and know lots of songs that are particularly good for the ukulele. Students may choose to learn to read music, or to read tablature, or just play by rote and from lesson videos. All of my lessons are customized to match each individual student's interests and preferred learning styles. (With very young children, I will have the child learn to play and sing popular children's songs.)

For students who have played an instrument prior to our lessons, I try and shape a curriculum entirely based upon the specific goals of the student, and I rarely use text books although I use a lot of exercises and educational material when appropriate.  I feel learning to play and transcribe songs and solos to increase a students self reliance and confidence is my most important job.  

Most students come to me looking for structure so I try and provide a clear path to their goals. For students with no prior musical experience I use text books and exercises to strengthen their technique, expose them to musical ideas, and give them a foundation for basic theory.  After that is accomplished I move into a curriculum that is more personal to their specific goals.

I have been teaching private piano, violin, guitar, and ukulele lessons for ten years. I won competitions, hundreds of dollars, and a scholarship through the Desert Valley Music Teacher Association (DVMTA). I have written and self-published two piano books with more in the works. I have worked on a Music Theory degree at MCC and plan to transfer to ASU to finish my bachelor's. I help students find the fun in music again with many involved music games and incentive programs. I instill a love and confidence in students of composing their own music from a young age.
