Charles is very professional, kind and friendly. My 9 year old is trying to learn Bohemian Rhapsody on his viola for a talent show and Charles has been very helpful, guiding him through the music with positive reinforcement. We tried a couple other instructors but it wasn't the right fit. Super pleased we found Charles. Look forward to many more lessons to come.

We have tried a few instructors for strings and they were not the right fit for us. We finally struck GOLD with Charles! Very professional, not at all condescending with his feedback (this was our problem with a couple others), taught my son things he has not learned in school in terms of correct form/placement of viola, and bow technique. We are very excited for the next lesson!

Learning a musical instrument should be fun, exciting, and most importantly pain-free.

About Chaul

I have been playing the violin for over 24 years. I like to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced students regardless of their age. Thank you Chaul for a great lesson and also for being so patient with me when my computer didn't log into the session right away. I enjoyed my first lesson and am excited to have such a fabulous teacher that sent me material and information to prepare for my first session. I feel confident that I will be able to progress and I know that I will enjoy learning with you. I'm looking forward to my next lesson.

Online Violin Teacher

Hello, my name is Tal and playing the violin has been my biggest passion since 2001. For the past several years teaching has became one too, and I would love to work with you and help you reach your musical goals.
During the lessons, I will do my best to make the learning experience as productive, fun and challenging as possible. Whether you are a beginner or advanced student, we will work on your technical abilities, finding your own musical ideas and how to make them really come out (which is the best part, of course!). An additional value that comes with studying a musical instrument is the development of your problem solving skills: if you want to practice productively, you must ask yourself the right questions, and then use the knowledge you have to come up with solutions. During our lessons, you will find yourself asking and answering questions, so you are as prepared as possible to be an independent violinist.
I look forward to working with you!

About Tal

I began my violin studies in 2001. As I grew up, I continued my studies at Thelma Yellin School of Arts and later on at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. I began privately instructing students while I was still in high school. Thirty years later, my studio teaching experience continues to instill a passion for music and students that are performing in their own venues in school and the community. Knowing that the time I have with each person is leading them to grow and share their own abilities with others is truly the heart of where I think musical instruction should lead.

It went greater than I expected. Very very impressed - explanations very clear, easy to understand - some tricks to improve a few things - couldn’t wait until I could practice those tips. Practiced another 25-30 minutes after my lesson. I’m already looking forward to my next lesson in a week - she made me feel at ease very quickly.

Learning to play an instrument is 90% student and 10% teacher. Your improvement is primarily based on how attentive you are and the time you put into practice. My ultimate job is to teach you to become your own teacher, to understand and grasp technical and musical objectives to the point of artistic independence.
Whether your goal is to simply try something new or become a pro, my approach is the same, and that is to help you become the best musician you can be and understand the power and incredible depth of music.

About Jordan

I received my undergraduate degree in violin performance from The Juilliard School, also currently finishing my last year of graduate studies there under Li Lin and Naoko Tanaka. "Rebekah is a thorough and patient violin teacher. When my 7 year old, daughter asked to learn the violin, I was not sure if she had enough of a capacity to focus, which is necessary for playing the violin. Under Rebekah's instruction, she has flourished; she is playing scales, songs, and reading music. After each session, Rebekah reviews with me the homework she has assigned to my daughter. Thanks to Rebekah, my daughter is developing a real appreciation for music, while enjoying the learning process. I highly recommend Rebekah!"

"Tania has been a great teacher for my son. He started learning violin with the Suzuki method and studied with a Suzuki teacher for about four years before stopping lessons. He became interested in violin again in middle school and decided he wanted to take private lessons while in 7th grade. Tania had no trouble getting him back on track, picking up with some Book 2 pieces and moving on to Book 3. She has helped him with his bowing, vibrato and shifting, and his sound has really improved. She also has helped him learn to read better and has introduced some basic music theory into lessons. My son really likes his lessons, and feels that he is learning what he needs. Overall, I like her approach, which I think works very well for this level. She is an excellent musician, and this comes through in her teaching."

"I have been taking violin lessons with Ha-eun for a couple of months now and I am very excited to be working with her. It is a real pleasure. She is very educated/talented musically and is very patient with me. She works with students of varying music levels. I have some music experience both through school and through previous violin lessons years ago when I was younger. We began working where I left off. Her lessons are very organized and they consist of 2 components, both a music theory component and a technical component where I learn how to hold the violin/bow correctly. During my first lesson, she had the patience to tune my violin (despite the cold winter which can really affect violin sound/make tuning hard), set my shoulder rest properly on the violin and set the "No fret" violin finger board tape which can take a while. I really enjoy taking lessons with her and I anticipate working with her for a long time moving forward in my violin education. It is with no hesitation and no reservation that I recommend Ha-Eun for new students as well as those wanting to go back to learning the violin like me. She has a very positive attitude and is very patient when I have difficulty learning anything. I'm very happy I found her on TakeLessons and I look forward to many many more lessons with her!"

How Can I Make Practicing Violin Scales More Effective?

No matter how much students may groan when it comes to scales, they are very important for all beginners to know, particularly for the violin. Almost all of your knowledge about playing the violin starts with learning how to play scales, from reading sheet music to better understanding the fingerings. Of course, it is not nearly as exciting as playing one of the songs you love, but practicing scales will give you a strong foundation that will help you progress and improve. Violin scales are typ …
