She was very thorough..plus her style of teaching will definitely benefit me in the long run!!

Jeanmarie helped me to learn the proper way to hold the cello and the bow. She watched carefully to be sure I maintained that throughout the lesson. I am pleased that she is going to be sure I learn to play the cello well to prevent injuries. She also gave me some very basic bowing and finger exercises to practice this first week so I begin to build correct muscle memory before I go on to working with sheet music.

I can help you get started on an instrument, improve your current abilities, work on school band and orchestra music, prepare for festival and solo auditions, prepare for college auditions, or just find great enjoyment in playing.

I pack a lot into each lesson making sure we address things such as: posture, theory, accuracy of rhythm, note reading, warm-ups, scales, etudes, solos, musicality, composition, interpretation and technique.

I am an adult, and have had several teachers, and Julie is the best. She is warm and caring and friendly, with a nice sense of humor, and is also businesslike and focused. The lessons are fun, but you don't waste time. Her knowledge of different instruments and different kinds of music is very impressive. When she gives criticism, it's always constructive and thoughtful. She often gives praise when I do well, and the praise is also thoughtful. She gives good suggestions for practice and for working out a problem within the lesson. She treats me like an individual, and appreciates my musical interests, so doesn't try to make me do the same program as everybody else.

I am a professional violinist and violist in the Boston area. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory where I have studied with Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, and Martha Katz. I have performed extensively throughout my life as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player on both the violin and viola in a variety of professional ensembles including substitute viola work with the Borromeo String Quartet. I draw from this performing background to teach my students of all ages and abilities.

I currently act as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola at Merrimack College, where I serve as a primary instrumental teacher to enrolled students. I have also acted as the primary violin teacher for Main Street Music, LLC, in Waltham. Additionally, I run a private studio of 5-10 students as young as 6 and as old as 60. Of these, some never touched an instrument before our first lesson, and some are serious conservatory-bound musicians intending to make a career as a performer.

Luther loves to teach. At every lesson he is there for you, ready to help you. He has an extensive musical background, after studying violin at New England Conservatory with Meriam Fried and Donald Weilerstein, as well as performing and studying at many prestigious summer music festivals, including Ravinia’s Steans Institute, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Taos School of Music. In addition, Luther is an excellent violist, studying with Martha Katz, also at New England Conservatory.

Luther loves to answer all of your questions. He will analyze and dissect your technical questions about how to play the violin: concerning tone, bowing, left hand issues, and how to use your arms, shoulders, back and your whole body while playing the instrument. He can help you with fingering and answer your questions about written music. He will demonstrate and help you play musically. He is able prepare you for your orchestral audition, help you learn concertos and other solo music and help you with chamber music. Thanks Luther for continuing to help me attain my dream to become an excellent violinist!

I had my first lesson with Luther today. He is personable, informative, gave constructive feedback and encouraged me. I found his style of instruction helpful.
I’m looking forward to my next lesson with him.

It's a blaze to work with Luther! He identified my problem very quickly and provided concrete advices on improving the sound. His understanding on how beautiful sound is made is very clear and systematic. There are so many dimensions in the sound making for violin but he always breaks it down and works on each individual part of my postures and bowing. My sound is now much fuller than before! He also not only teaches violin but also how to think about music in general. I feel like I am constantly critically thinking on how I can experiment with each phrase after I take lessons with Luther. I will highly recommend Luther if you want to find a violin teacher!

Kate is an incredible teacher - I cannot recommend her highly enough. I have played violin off and on for almost 30 years, and Kate has worked carefully and thoughtfully to help me with basics that I didn't realize I could improve on that have already changed my playing for the better. Kate has a positive and encouraging approach that inspires confidence and joy in practicing. She is able to clearly break down each element of fingering, shifting, and bowing when I am having trouble. She is a gem and I am delighted to revisit my love for the violin under her guidance.

I have been beyond pleased with Kate. Her energy is calm and encouraging and allows the student to creatively discover how learning works for them. As an adult, having never played ANY instrument before, Kate has been the perfect nurturing guidance on this journey. I've also seen her perform outside of lessons and she is clearly classically trained but pushing the boundaries as an what an artist "should be" which I love as someone learning a skill, to see all perspectives. Kate is on time and professional and I have nothing but positive to say about working with her!!!
Amy
My granddaughter (age 13) has been studying violin with Kate for the past two years and I honestly felt as though we'd struck gold after the first lesson. Kate is smart, talented, patient, and an all-around lovely person who has elevated my granddaughter's music studies.

When Kelvin perceive something that needs to be corrected or something that I need to work on, he does it with such helpful analogies and simple instructions that it is easy for me to work on my skills and correct the problem. After each lesson, I always leave with more violin knowledge and techniques than I came with. "I am an international student living in the US, and teacher Anna is incredibly patient, nice, and fun to learn with. I have around 8 months being her student and even though I had cancelled multiple lessons due a variety of reasons, I am about to finish Suzuki 1 and I already started another book. Learning something new when you are in your late teens might be hard, but with her I have improved a lot and I feel happy with my skills. I think that she can adapt easily to any kind of student while still making them learn what she wants them to. Also whenever I have a question or need something, she will always answer within one day without having to wait until the next lesson, which makes learning a lot easier."
