Congratulations! I mean it! Looking for violin lessons is a big step, and the first to achieving your goals as a budding musician.

In your lessons with me, you will first learn proper set-up and technique, and we will mainly work from the Suzuki method books. Additionally, I will provide you with various scales, exercises, and "fun pieces" as you progress. I wholeheartedly believe that learning the violin should be enjoyable, and not a chore. So, wherever you are at with current skill level, and whatever your motives are for taking lessons, you can rest assured that we will have a great time together!

About Lauren

Lauren, a native of Chicago and former resident of Vero Beach, FL, fits into just about every genre of music with her fiddle playing. Her malleability within the industry has afforded her multiple opportunities performing and recording with artists who have styles ranging from Classical to Bluegras

Lauren is a great teacher. Very patient, encouraging, stressing the basics while keeping you interested by teaching you new, interesting pieces.

I have worked with Lauren for over a year now. I have found that Lauren is very patient and is willing to work with you to reach your goals and not just the goals of a book. Lauren works with you on a one on one basis to help you get where you want to go. Lauren is extremely knowledgable and always ready with a challenge to help you progress.
Catherine P.
I just completed my first lesson with Lauren. I was hesitant as to how it would go because I know nothing about the violin or how to hold the bow. With that said, even though it has only been one lesson, I have complete confidence that Lauren will help me reach the goals I am looking to achieve. She has a wonderful calmness that makes you feel relaxed and competent.

I have taught violin students ranging in age from 5 to 15 years old, all of whom have gone on to do some wonderful things in music! Additionally, I have 8+ years of teaching experience but I also can offer a youthful perspective!

I just graduated from Columbia University where I studied with renowned violinist Richard Rood, served as a principle violinist in the Music Performance Program, and was a top first violinist in the Columbia University Orchestra under Juilliard's Maestro Jeffery Milarsky. I have performed at venues including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. My high school had a prominent performing arts department and I was the Concertmaster of both capstone ensembles. In my time as concertmaster, our Symphony Orchestra was awarded a GRAMMY, was named one of the top high school ensembles in the country and the best in the state, and collaborated with the Martin Wind Jazz Quartet! I have played the violin for 17 years and before I ...

I had not played a string instrument since 2011, and I remembered very little (if any) technique. After just one lesson with Ms. Suljic, I found myself getting a pretty good sound out of the violin... something I had not heard myself make in 8 years!! I found that she adapted to my skill level very quickly, and was super attentive to my needs. I plan on continuing my lessons with Ms. Suljic!! and I would definitely recommend you start taking lessons, too! You won't regret it.

Emelia is an extraordinarily talented person, but she an especially kind and patient teacher. My daughter has become more confident with violin and now takes so much pride in her work. She also has fun when she works with Emelia and we simply could not ask for a better teacher and mentor.

I started my violin lessons with Brian during my sophomore year of high school and continued with him through my senior year. He immediately began working with me on the music I had received from being in the Capital High School Orchestra. Throughout my years with Brian, we worked on perfecting many solos, creating beautiful ensembles, and enhancing my knowledge of music theory. Brian provided me a perfect transition as I moved from playing in high school orchestra to making music in my personal life. Whether you an absolute beginner or have been playing for years, I would absolutely recommend taking lessons from Brian! He is an amazing teacher, working with you every step of the way in pursuing your dreams in music, whatever they might be.

Brian is a great and patient teacher. He listens to me and pushes me when he knows that I can do better. He is super talented, super nice, and he has a good sense of humor. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Super awesome teacher! So good with both younger kids and teenagers and the hard work he puts in to help others really shows in his students!

Hi! I'm Michael Shingo Crawford and I am a violinist, pianist, and composer.

In my teaching, I emphasize efficient, goal-oriented practice, and provide a strong technical foundation while always keeping musicality and expression in mind. I encourage my students to develop problem-solving skills that will ultimately allow them to create their own interpretations about a piece of music. I believe that each student has a different learning style and, with this knowledge, I design a program of study specifically for them.

Learning music is all about tackling technical or musical problems in many different ways until we find an approach that works for you. As multi-instrumentalist who also writes music, I can offer many different perspectives on a single issue and draw from a wide range of knowledge that serves me in my daily creative pursuits. ~

About Michael

A bit about me - in my creative work, I like to explore narrative and extramusical ideas through sound. I'm often inspired by literature, visual art, dance, and my Japanese heritage. I'm a recent graduate of Temple University with a Master's in Music Composition, and my work has been presented by p

I have been a student of Michael’s for approximately 7 months. My only previous experience with violin had been one year in elementary school band class and 8 months with a private teacher. When my private teacher’s lesson schedule changed, I was introduced to Michael and was greatly impressed by his skill level and teaching style. I have learned so much more than I had expected in each lesson, like how to self-tune, use a metronome, shift, and various other techniques. Michael constantly offers feedback on how I can execute techniques better, and I feel that this helps me to learn more effectively. He is always challenging me by giving me harder pieces and scales. I have even been told by my high school orchestra conductor that I have improved so much and she is constantly surprised by how fast I am learning. I highly recommend having Michael as a teacher for anyone looking to learn how to play the violin.

Michael is very talented and he is a great instructor. He explains the techniques really well. Very professional and supportive. I highly recommend him!
Tanush
Micheal is a fantastic teacher that manages to solve every question and problem I have about my instrument. His teaching technique breaks down complex things into easy-to-understand lessons that help give me and his other students great comprehension of the topics that we need to know to become better musicians. I sincerely cannot recommend him enough to beginning and intermediate musicians.

I initially started lessons with Jessica in CA. When I moved to the other side of the country four years ago, we decided to try ways to continue online. After some trial and error, I’m so glad we stuck with it. It’s worked out beautifully even before “Social Distance” was a thing!

Jessica is not only a very talented musician but a great teacher! Her instruction was clear and understandable and she seemed dedicated to her students. I was an adult student and had always wanted to learn to play the violin. I took lesson for three years until my schedule became too busy. I would definitely recommend her to potential students of all ages.
Nate
Jessica's mix of outstanding skill as a professional musician, her effective read of how different personality types approach music, and her distinct ability to transfer skill and understanding through a teaching mentorship - were THE factors that brought me back to the violin after a hiatus brought about by a poor match between me and a previous teacher. Whether music theory or technique, Jessica's teaching helped me through barrier after barrier. I am so fortunate to have found her.

"My gifted son needs challenging and stimulating activities to help him balance all of his feelings. I was extremely hesitant with signing him up because he is only 4. However he instantly connected with Landon and said he has a fantastic time. I absolutely love how Landon has a gift to communicate music without watering down terminology but slowly speaking so that children can understand. He truly has a gift. We look forward to the next one."

It's obvious that his musical skills are high but just as important, his ability to teach to the students individual needs is also strong. I highly recommend him."

5 Maintenance Tips for Violin Bows

All musical instruments require attention and maintenance. When it comes to the violin, however, it is easy to forget that the bow needs as much care as the instrument itself. After all, the way you treat your violin bows will affect the way the violin sounds. If too much resin builds up on the hairs, for example, the sound will come out wrong. While it may not be as costly to repair or replace violin bows, why waste money when it’s easy to keep your violin bows in good working condition? …
