I teach children starting at 7 years old, all the way to adults. I teach each player proper playing technique that can be used for classical playing, fiddle-playing and pop music. I also teach music theory and sheet reading alongside violin technique. I tailor each lesson to the students wants and needs.

I have been playing violin for 20 years and have been trained in classical and Fiddle style playing. I also have a full knowledge of Music Theory and how to read sheet music. I believe that learning should be fun and rewarding.

I studied classical violin playing with Elizabeth Small at Belmont University. I studied with the Suzuki Method and have a thorough knowledge of the program.

Ms. Yu is currently a Teaching Assistant in the University of Massachusetts, where she is responsible for all undergraduates who take violin performance as a second major. With increasing time on her hands for side efforts, Jiuri has recently found that teaching young children gives her great joy, especially dealing when with the complexities of personalities as they arise and the challenge of motivating and molding young minds. When Jiuri is not teaching or performing music, she loves traveling, seeing all the different and interesting cultures, museums and learning about the history of places. Jiuri is an avid reader.

Lessons are tailored to fit each individual student's ability and goals. I believe in challenging students while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment. Lessons will cover music theory, technique, and solo pieces. The goal is to develop in each student the specific skills needed to play a string instrument as well as to nurture an understanding and love for music.

It is my goal as a teacher to "decode" each individual student's personal learning style. I strive to create a fun and safe learning environment and to instill the values of lifelong learning, curiosity, and self-improvement in my students. My primary goal as a teacher is to make playing the violin easy and fun.

My teaching begins with a strong technical foundation. Having strong basics allows the violinist to play their instrument with ease, having the freedom to play musically and creatively. I provide students with a balance of scales and arpeggios, etudes and technical exercises, and classic repertoire, and supplement with fiddle, pop, and jazz tunes, according to the student's interests.
