I tried to teach guitar in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play lead guitar, or how to finger pick. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

About John

Hello, Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me. Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me,

Rhythm guitar, picking patterns and reading notes on the guitar are all taught.

About Kathryn

Kathy believes that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. Raised singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies), she learned guitar and piano at an early age, but began singing even earlier. Her quest to give the world the best

My experience with Kathy has been great. It's been roughly five months and I learned a lot and I'm also much more confident to sing. Learning the right techniques is crucial. Kathy is extremely patient and she adapts the classes to the student goals and aspirations. English is not my first language and she was also always very respectful and patient in explaining everything twice or maybe three times until I get it.

Kathryn has a terrific demeanor, and provides clear, thoughtful suggestions for technique!

Curtis is a fantastic teacher! He is patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging. He teaches the type of songs you want to learn and not some song from a guitar guidebook. My first lesson was two hours and it quickly went by. I learned a lot, had a lot of fun and am looking forward to my next lesson. If you are in search of a guitar instructor, I would highly recommend him.

I do not teach guitar for readers or cover artists. If you want to learn how to find your own style and build on what is unique and valuable in what you play, I can help you.

I typically can't offer much to an already advanced player as they've already acquired and embedded habits I will train less experienced players to either avoid or incorporate from a creative rather than copy-cat methodology.

Students will be taught "Expressive Practicing", a technique emphasizing skills earned through inspired playing. This is a highly individualized method based on the students instinctive capabilities such as having an natural "ear". Fundamentals are taught as applied through a run-before-you-walk set of exercises and structured improvisation techniques.

About Richard

I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love. Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Professiona

Richard is so patient and knowledgeable. I am very happy with our lessons. Because of my background with classical guitar he wondered if the fact that he doesn't read music and I am renewing my mind back into it would not be a good teaching set-up. Not at all. I now have an electric guitar and the five years spent playing classical, now fifteen years ago, did not give me a good foundation for understanding music theory unfortunately. I have a genre I had already picked out fingerstyle electric and now with some thinking my way through the basics I did have I still need to learn just basic strumming etc. I understand what he is referring to in music so we still speak in the same key. Also and lastly my daughter has a severe seizure/dementia disorder that is very unpredictable and our caregiver's mom just passed away so there will be times when I just can't do a week/day. He has been very understanding. I am smiling from my soul because music is my healing path for difficult stuff I couldn't pay any doctor/therapist to even call me back for. Thank you so much for your assistance. Sincerely Teresa

I have been playing guitar for 21 years. I make lesson plans based on each individual, so I don't teach every one the same boring songs or use the same regiment with everyone. I want to teach you what YOU want to learn.

About Jeremie

I'm a self taught guitarist who has been playing for 20 years. I have played professionally in numerous bands and ensembles ranging from jazz to folk to rock, and I've been writing music for the same length of time. He's patient, knowledgeable, well prepared, and most importantly, passionate. His enthusiasm is infectious and inspires me to keep working hard."

"When I first reached out to Donnie about taking lessons from him, I was a little bit skeptical due to the fact that most of his students were beginning guitarists, and I had already learned the basics from other teachers. I was very quickly forced to eat my words. Donnie talked with me, watched me play, and evaluated my ability, and then found a curriculum that really helped to challenge me in new ways. Rather than rigidly walking through each page of the book, he worked me through the parts that would be most beneficial to me, and then moved me on to the next one once I had mastered the concepts. This allowed me to learn a lot of new things in a short amount of time. Donnie was professional, and very friendly, and was always willing to work with me if I had a schedule conflict. The teacher I had before Donnie was an extremely advanced player, and taught me some helpful techniques, but I just never got to the fun of playing like I have with Donnie. Because of the balanced and consistent diet of assignments he gave me, I was able to progress in my knowledge and skill while enjoying myself the entire way. I'm really hope that my schedule will die back down so I can go back to regular practice and lessons with him again, but even that's not possible, I know that I'll still be picking up my axe whenever I couple free minutes, not because I feel like I need to, but just for the sheer fun of it."

"Matthew is clearly a superb instructor and extremely knowledgeable musician. By asking a few questions and listening to the responses (this was my first lesson with Matthew) he was able to quickly assess my skill level. As a result of his assessment, he used an appropriate instructional technique and developed a lesson plan specifically for me. His approach toward teaching is solid; I say that as someone who has a Masters Degree in Teaching! He encouraged me to build a goal plan (short and long term) and clearly identified a practice routine that will help me achieve those goals. I'm already looking forward to the next lesson. Thank you Matthew!"

Guitar Theory | 5 Reasons Guitarists Need Music Theory

Some guitarists have a lot of excuses when it comes to learning music theory. Guitar teacher Zachary A. shatters these excuses, busts a few myths, and shares why music theory is so important for guitarists after all... Music theory is a vast, almost unending, amount of knowledge. Many of music's greats studied and had schooling for decades.
