Joel is an accomplished performer, composer, songwriter, and educator who draws from several pedagogical techniques to create a curriculum that is fun, active, inquiry-based, and student-driven. He is a professionally licensed K-12 music teacher in the state of Colorado with a master's degree in music education who has taught in public schools and privately for 5 years. Work collaboratively to set goals, pick repertoire, and build a strong musical foundation. Come prepared to sing, improvise, analyze, and play.

I believe that learning music should be as fun and inspiring as it can be to play, and the Ukulele is a great first instrument for people interested in learning to play any stringed instrument.
Its small size makes it easier for little fingers to handle, and the low-tension nylon strings are more comfortable for beginners to press against the fretboard. Plus, it's portable, so you can take it just about anywhere!

We all have a vast wellspring of creative energy within us, and the goal of the relationship between the student and the teacher is to help nurture and develop that latent talent. For this reason, my approach to teaching music is highly individualized. I start out with the premise that the student has unique gifts and my job is to help them discover what those are, and develop and refine them in order to make beautiful and deeply satisfying music, through whatever instrument and in whatever style they are drawn towards.

Ukulele lessons from beginner to advanced. Some students want to learn a few chords to play songs they know; others want to learn the intricacies of the instrument. Whatever your goal, I have a methodology for teaching that will help you reach your goals the quickest in a relaxed environment.

The Ukulele has seen a resurgence in recent years, and is a really fun and easier instrument to learn. Like the guitar, I teach beginners basic chords and rhythms to get them playing their favorite songs as soon as possible.

I try to teach in a way that best fits the student's needs. I really enjoy the "learning process" and love helping students find out how they learn best. Also, I make a point to have students progress in a natural way that allows them to be making music at every stage along the way.
