My goal as a teacher is to help my students play music and achieve their individual goals while getting the best possible sound from the guitar. After a musical foundation is established, I have found that technique is learned best when in tandem with repertoire that supports it. While I encourage my students to explore various and any genres of music, I do request that my students are open to learning technique as it equips the student with the skills necessary to tackle any genre of music.

About Zachary

Zachary Grim enjoys a multifaceted career in performance, teaching, and research. His programs, which focus on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, have led him to collaborate with variety of venues and organizations such as the Newman Center for the Performing Arts, Society of the Cincinnati,

I have been taking lessons from Michael for about 9 months, and it has been one of the best experiences I have ever had. He is an excellent guitar player, and instructor. He is patient, thorough, and very willing to pace his instruction with the ability of the student. I am in my late 50's and he is just the person I had hoped for in a teacher. I consider going to lesson not a chore, but a pleasure.

Our son first time playing bassoon. Base on my son experience, he find Joshua to be very nice, patients, and explains a lot of information. It help him understand about the instrument and the sound when he play. He do have a sense of humor which help my son to have fun and be more comfortable. He also teaches other instruments, too. "William is an awesome teacher. We took our son to take lessons with him and it was a huge upgrade from the places we were going before. The price, amount of time and quality of the lessons our son got with Williams was phenomenal. Williams was well organized, easy to get along with and gave honest feedback that was needed when things were not being done as expected. I would highly recommend his services and look forward working with him again when our daughter decides to take lessons."

"I've been taking lessons with Jonah for 6 years now (4th-10th grade) and the experience has been amazing! With Jonah's help, I have learned so much about the guitar, both in technical aspects and in simply "jamming." Jonah is always very patient, kind, encouraging, and his passion for music very clearly shows in his teaching. Every lesson I take is very enjoyable, and I always come out of the lessons feeling like I have made good progress on whatever it was we were working on that week. Whether you wish to learn about complex music theory and lead guitar (like I am currently doing), or just want to learn how to play a few songs, Jonah is a perfect choice as a teacher. Additionally, Jonah is very communicative and flexible with timing. Whenever I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson for whatever reason, Jonah responds to my messages quickly and is almost always able to find another day that week for our lesson to take place on. 5 stars, fantastic teacher, I highly recommend Jonah!"

"I've had four lessons so far with Steve, and I am so pleased with how it is going! Steve is very skilled, patient, kind, punctual and professional. He responds to all my questions, and is very encouraging. He comes to my office in Pasadena to give me my lesson.

I find that the biggest challenge in learning something new, is keeping my own internal critic under control as I struggle with note reading, and learn how to play the guitar. The fact that Steve is so patient and never critical helps to offset my internal critic. I have felt self doubting in the first two lessons, but by lesson 3, I am confident that if I keep practicing and working with Steve, eventually I will get it.

Steve also shared info re his Taylor Mini guitar which is much smaller than the typical guitar, easier for me to play because the frets are smaller for smaller hands. I just bought my own Taylor Mini, a beautiful instrument which also inspires me to keep at it! Steve is also introducing some popular songs starting in lesson 3, which also makes it more enjoyable.

This is one of the best decisions I have made for myself, and I am very happy that I was lucky to find Steve. He's great!"

20 Different Types of Guitars & The Legends Who Played Them [Infographic]

While certain types of guitars are standard in modern culture, the instrument has a wide variety of expressions that is nearly impossible to tame. From the ancient Greek kithara to the guitar-like lute from pre-modern Spain, the many different types of guitars vary just as much as the people who play them. Some types of acoustic and electric guitars are more common than others. Steel string dreadnought acoustics and Stratocaster-style electrics are likely to be the first thing that pops i …
