Ukulele Lessons in Betterton, MD

We can learn melodies, different chords and songs that you like, and how to play them in different ways. We can add a little bit of technical exercises and theory if you want! You can start playing ukulele in just a few lessons!

Aloha!! The ukulele is an incredibly fun instrument to learn! I currently offer lessons from beginner to intermediate levels. My method of teaching ukulele includes learning chords, rhythm, and picking the melodies. You will learn to read tablature and to even sight read with the ukulele if you so desire! Otherwise, you can learn to play beautiful ukulele chords and sing along!

In these lessons you will learn:
*How to make chord shapes and eliminate buzzing/muted strings
*Build knowledge and skills through learning 30+ chords on the ukulele
*Strum patterns (from easy to advanced)
*Rhythm and how to keep a beat, plus more complex rhythms
*How to sing along with your ukulele accompaniment
*Basic music theory knowledge to help you understand concepts
*How to pick the strings
*The notes on the ukulele
*How to read tablature
*To expand and have fun playing such a relaxing instrument!

First thing I do before first day of class is send out a welcoming greeting via email and call a few days before first lesson. We Briefly discuss and establishing the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy,technical,and intellectual competencies the students should achieve by the end of a period is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during class. Music lessons include: warm ups, exercises, technical and theory work, solfeggio (sight-singing), ear training, repertoire musical coaching, composition writing, preparation for performances and more.

Ukulele lessons are taught going over the basic chords and strum techniques.

Ukulele students start with five subjects.

1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.

2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.

3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.

4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?

5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"
