Great job getting my daughter who is not afraid to sing in front of people to open her voice up even further. She just preformed as a lead in a play and displayed what she has learned very well

Josh is always easy to be around and is able to form any lesson around what I wanted to do, as well as teach me loads of new ideas if I hadn’t planned anything. He has greatly helped improve my own production and give me insight into what professional producers do to set themselves apart. He’s great to work with and always in an uplifting mood.
Chris
Josh is an awesome teacher. He is patient and supportive and always comes up with ways to connect me to the concept he’s teaching. I asked to learn drums “the right way” so we spend a ton of time on fundamental exercises that i suspect are boring for him but he never shows it. He is always upbeat and positive and I enjoy our lessons a lot. Could not recommend him more highly.

Hey everyone out there interested in Music Theory! I'm a jazz pianist and composer, who's crazy about theory and the understanding of music. In my classes we'll study harmony, intervals, chord inversions, chord extensions, reharmonization, and from time to time historical references and examples. I find the best way to grasp these concepts is by first analyzing and studying them, and second putting them into practice on chordal instruments (piano/guitar). Theory may seem intimidating for some and limited for others who already have a strong grasp on the basics, but I can guarantee that together we'll open new doors into understanding theory no matter your level.

About Alan

Hello everyone! My name is Alan, I'm a life long musician who now at the age of 28 composes, performs, and teaches music as a full time profession. My first contact with the piano was at six years old when I began taking lessons from a teacher in my home town. During this time I learned how to r

"I started taking guitar lessons for the first time 10 months ago and am thankful I found such a great teacher in Ahmad. His positive attitude and love of music helps me stay engaged and lessons are productive and fun.

One of the great things about Ahmad is he listens to you and adjusts lesson content based on the feedback you provide. His ability to listen allows Ahmad to deliver a personalized lesson plan that incorporates your goals and gets you excited about what you are working on.

Ahmad also has taught me techniques to prevent and address minor aches that come up while learning to play. He takes this seriously and shows you how to prevent and resolve any issues that come up.

Overall, taking lessons from Ahmad has been a very positive experience. I look forward to continuing working with him to get better."

"The lessons (piano & music theory) I learned from Buzz Amato was the sole reason I got signed to a label & was able to produce 2 Billboard charted singles (which he co-produced with me). I now tour the world djing and produce with talented artists that come to me based off my musical knowledge, that I received from Buzz. I can honestly say NONE of this would happen without the musical instruction of Buzz. Thank you Buzz!"

"As Jim states on his bio, he teaches from age 8 and up. I'm one of his "up" students who's been playing guitar for a few years, but never took time to learn theory because I thought it was too confusing or difficult to learn. After being stuck in a rut for the past 30 years, I finally realized that I could be a guitar player, instead of just playing guitar, by understanding WHY I'm playing what I playing. I planned to take a few lessons to see how it would go. That was 4 months ago. Now when I pick up my guitar, I have a plan and am excited to learn more each week. Jim's approach to teaching theory makes it clear for anyone of any age or expertise. If you're young and want to learn the right way, Jim will teach you the right way. For us older folks, I found out you CAN teach an old dog new tricks... I highly recommend Jimmy!"

"Without Jeremy, I never would've gotten my Master's Degree. As I was preparing for my comprehensive exams in music performance, I had five pieces ranging from Medieval all the way through 20th century that had to be studied and analyzed for the music theory section of my exam. Jeremy was able to help me (and my entire study group) by teaching us in a knowledgeable, yet approachable way. He has a great deal of patience and a very kind demeanor. I wish I had encountered a teacher like him while in my undergrad music studies. He simplified so many of the concepts and ideas of music theory which really helped me to understand the analysis process and gave me full confidence when taking my comprehensive exams. He never made me feel stupid when asking questions and even when he had to explain the same concept over and over (which that happened often) he never lost his patience. He is so incredibly knowledgeable as a musician and such a delightfully kind person."

"Kelly really knows her theory, inside and out. And she can explain how it all works. It's much easier to memorize a piece once you understand the theory behind it: the progression of the chords, and their functions. I wish my former teachers had known theory instead of making me memorize all those notes with no explanation."

Music Student Face-Off: Memorizers vs. Readers | Which is Better?

As you learn songs and work through your music books, do you memorize the notes? Or do you read along every time you play? In this post, music teacher Vanessa G. discusses the pros and cons to the approaches...   Imagine your teacher gives you a piece of music to study. What's your process? Do you listen to a recording, memorizing the melody and the stylistic aspects before you begin, and then as you play? Or would you sit down and sight read the notes, and perfect it from that star …
