My Philosophy:

There is great music potential waiting to be untapped in yourself. I value greatly the time I spend with every student and wish them to become the very best at the instrument they wish to pursue.

There is indescribable expression to be found in music. A wide range of emotions can be conveyed along with untold stories just waiting to
be opened up. I will help foster a student's ability to see music for what it really is and help them strive for whatever musician they wish to become, whether it be for personal fulfillment, just for fun and recreation, or even in the pursuit of becoming an effective classical musician.

My Education:

My mother took me took a classical concert when I was six and I sat in the front of the stringed section. After the concert I made my decision that would shape the rest of my life, I wanted to become like those musicians.

I eventually graduated from a local music school in the following years in piano and violin and immediately went to enter the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. I was among the 10 out of 40 applicants that were eventually chosen, along with being the youngest of them as well.

After four years of study, I graduated and received my Bachelor's Degree in Music. I then went on to study for another year and received my Master's Degree in Piano.

My Other Experience:

I was Church Music Director in Kiev for Living Water Church from 2002 - 2010. I directed the adult choir, directed and led church worship services, accompanied various musicians and managed all aspects of church music responsibilities, including budgeting, rehearsals, planning and library management.

I also have been a private music teacher for several years teaching adults and young students. I planned lessons with them and established their repertoire.

I am also fluent in the Russian language and have extensive computer literacy.

I pay close attention to the fundamentals of music especially throughout the early lessons. These include reading notes, measuring tempo and rhythm, sight reading, hand positioning, posture, and technique.

I believe in positive reinforcement for all my students. Building a kind and friendly atmosphere is paramount for encouraging students, especially children, to continue pursuing music. Everyone I believe has hidden music potential, and I believe the key to unlocking this is through inspiration. Music is a grand adventure of excitement and discovery for everyone.

I am very kind and honest with my students and am never too strict with them, but I do require and greatly encourage regularly that they make habitual practice a vital part of their musical education. As the old saying goes, "Practice makes Perfect." There is great truth to that saying especially when learning a musical instrument.

Excellent Teacher

I am an older student and I started to learn to play the piano more than a year ago under a different teacher. I started with Eugene about 4 months ago. I was struggling with the piano previously. But after just 2 lessons with Eugene, I found myself playing confidently. Eugene explains so clearly and everything makes sense to me now. I enjoy practicing everyday now. He is excellent teacher, patient, and very professional. He is always on time.

My passion for music has inspired me to pursue teaching and performance professionally in order to help others achieve their musical dreams.

I began my teaching career in college while earning a Bachelor's in Music from Southwestern University (magna cum laude). I currently play as a soloist and with groups including AURORA: Trio for Flute, Harp, and Cello, the Shimmer Flute Choir, and Sounds of Silver Flute Quartet. I am also an active member of the Music Teacher's National Association and volunteer coordinator of the Houston Flute Club.

I love performing and I share my passion for music with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***

***I only teach lessons in my studio or online for certain subjects. I do not travel to students' homes.***

Flute Lessons:

I offer lessons that cover just about every aspect of playing the Western concert flute. Students can expect to become well-rounded musicians who are knowledgeable about flute technique, tone, music theory and history. I use a combination of the Rubank Method and Flute 101 books with handout supplements.

The biggest changes I've seen in my students after a few months is a better understanding of how to practice efficiently as well as improved tone. Furthermore, every year many of my students earn superior ratings of 1 on their UIL solos.

Every Spring my students and I participate in Flute Fest, a day-long celebration of all things flute, including concerts, masterclasses, and a solo and ensemble contest. A few weeks later we have our annual studio recital where everyone shows off their hard work.

A NOTE ABOUT WOODEN FLUTES

Occasionally I am asked to help students play wooden, non-western flutes. Although the very basic fundamentals are the same, I do not play these flutes and do not teach them.

Piano Lessons:

Piano is not only fun to play for its own sake, but provides a foundation for all music making. Students will learn about proper posture and hand-positioning, note-reading, rhythm, and a little history as well, using the Piano Pronto book series.

Music Theory Lessons:

I can help students of any instrument better understand the fundamental concepts of music theory: scales, intervals, chords, part-writing, etc. Theory lessons take place at the piano to demonstrate concepts. However, students do not have to play piano to take theory lessons. I typically use a combination of the Master Theory curriculum and other handouts, unless the student is already working out of another textbook.

**Online theory lessons** use the same curriculum, but with the screen share feature to help my demonstrations.

Summer Curriculum:

During the summer I offer additional group classes on different subjects, including theory and ear-training. I try something new every year to provide a variety of opportunities for students to learn and grow in their musicianship.

***Tuition Packages***
I have added my own features to the two tuition options TL already offers. I consider the Recurring Schedule a Subscription Package, where clients pay the same amount every month, equal to the value of four lessons, regardless of the number of lessons attended. This guarantees a permanent reservation of your time slot. I call the Schedule-As-You-Go the A La Carte Package, for those who cannot commit to a regular time. There is no reservation of a time slot and you pay for a few lessons at a time. I am happy to answer questions about tuition through the Ask A Question feature!

I'm a young, enthusiastic, energetic, and patient pianist with a B.A. in Jazz Piano Performance from Lewis and Clark College.

So, born in Dallas, I've spent parts of my childhood in various parts of the country, from Washington D.C. to Carbondale, Colorado to Portland, Oregon, and now in hot and humid Houston, Texas. America has a plenty to offer and our great country's musical history is rich and eclectic. I first started playing piano at a very young age from a very old lady. It was something I resented my parents for, not really understanding the whole point of playing music. But now, in retrospect, I thank them indefinitely for exposing me to one of the most important passions of my life. It was in 6th grade that I joined a rock n' roll band, singing and playing all sorts of keyboards and having a ball with music. The idea that I w
as having fun playing music finally dawned on me and the verb "playing" music finally made perfect sense to me. Without passion, music is simply another endeavor, so this realization propelled me into the realm of music indefinitely.

In high-school I finally learned what jazz music was and fell in love with the idea of spontaneous improvisation. Learning theory really helped and I started jamming with my buddies, eventually starting a cover band. Although I've never lost sight of my classical roots, trying to improve my technique as well as my sight-reading, it was in jazz that I really found my calling. So in college, I started studying with a great jazz pianist, Randy Porter, and found my fingers wrapping themselves around my own music in a way I never thought possible. So that's that, I've recently graduated, having played gigs and teaching kids, and found my way into a new city with new possibilities.

When it comes to teaching, most teachers adhere to a strict curriculum. While I do love my curriculum, I will often change things around in order to cater to my students' different needs. Through all my experiences, I've learned that positive reinforcement is ideal and that a good association with a learning experience often paves the way for more of them. Working with me gives students the opportunity to make headway in an instrument without painstaking monotony. The more that somebody enjoys learning, the more that they learn. I love to have fun when I'm teaching, so my students tend to have fun as well. Like I said earlier, music should be "played," and playing should be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons will usually begin with a recap of the last week, what the student has practiced, and what they accomplished since the last lesson. For some students, I will assign listening over the week, so at the beginning of the lessons, I read over the observations that they made in regards to the songs they listened to.
One thing I require of all of my students is a notebook devoted solely to the lesson, where the student writes down what he/she thinks about in terms of accomplishments and what they want to learn. I will also write down in the notebook different techniques, assignments, and various other things related to the lesson for the betterment of the student. My typical lesson will involve a communication between the student and myself, trying best to learn where the student is coming from and cater to his/her necessities in terms of learning. I am laid back, for the most part, but will encourage the student to practice. I do not get angry, but I will try to inspire the student through various techniques, becoming more disappointed than enraged at a student's lack of enthusiasm. Lessons for me are fun and I try and convey that jovial enthusiasm to my students.

I may or may not bring music paper and lesson books. If it is the first lesson, I'll definitely bring some material. I expect a piano in the home of the student given the enormous stature of the instrument.

I specialize in jazz piano, first and foremost. Although I was coached in classical as a child and can easily teach most intermediates, jazz is my forte and my major in college. In terms of teaching styles, it all depends on the student. More than most teachers, though, I put a heavy weight on listening to music in order to fully understand it. Technique is very important and must be taught, but feel is probably paramount and should be emphasized. Before a student can accurately play a piece of music, he/she must be able to connect with the music. When it comes to the piano, especially jazz piano, theory and knowledge of how the sounds of the instrument interact are also crucial. I will teach an appropriate amount of theory to the students given the style of play and pieces they are learning.

Piano lessons

Jerred is an easy going, flexible and professional teacher who teaches my 7 years old son. My son sees him as his role model and has taken to Jerred's style of teaching very well. Very impressed with what he has achieved so far. Currently we go to his apartment which is in a great location.

For more than 20 years, I have taught piano, violin, composition, theory, and music technology to music lovers of all ages. My students have gone on to win prizes both locally and nationally. Hsiao-Lan started teaching my 3 year old. She has incredible patience and shows the kids how much fun you can have while playing the piano. My daughter loved her and was always looking forward to her piano classes. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone who is looking for their kids to have fun while they learn to play the piano. Unfortunately, we were not able to continue the classes but in a near future i would love for her to teach my daughter once again. Hsiao-Lan truly has a gift in teaching young children.

wonderful teacher

I asked my 10 year old son what rating I should give Dr. Wang and he said "5 stars". She is very patient and friendly when teaching my son who is a bit shy. She has chosen songs that are fun that he enjoys playing, and I never hear a complaint about going to lessons. She is helpful with all aspects of learning to play the piano, and I have noticed his playing becoming more personal rather than simply following notes.

The teacher is nice and patient, My daughter just turned 4 when she first started the lesson. I was afraid she was going to find this difficult and boring. But instead she has enjoyed each lesson and has made surprising progress. The lesson is talored to her short attention span, mixed with games and fun motivation. We have enjoyed the lessons.

Since I was 8 years old, I have been trained systematically and professionally throughout my years in school. Strict but fun and enthusiastic, these words were said by my students after years of teaching. In Piano lessons, I assign diverse music repertories in order to assist students to have the ability to grasp the essen
tials of each different style of music. Learning piano skills is very important, but note-reading, theory, ear training and music history can't be neglected. I will include all these subjects consistently during the lessons to help the students build stronger and richer musicality. One or two recitals will be provided by me, all the students are encouraged to participate in the recitals.Students are also encouraged to take advanced performance opportunities, in church, school, and joint studio recitals. I have been teaching this subject for over 17 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. Theory lessons are usually taken in conjunction with performance lessons (an instrument or voice) so they can make practical application of what they learn in theory. Beginner students start with fundamentals of notation, and tonal harmony. Lessons for more advanced students will include form, analysis, modal, tonal, and extended tonal harmony, contemporary procedures, and more. Lessons are a minimum of 60 minutes once per week. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study. Theory lessons are particularly good as extra support for classroom work.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

Hi there. I'm Andrew. I have been teaching for about 10 years now and it has become one of the things I truly love to do. When I am not writing, reading, gigging, touring, or recording, I love to teach people the things that have made my life so colorful.

About Andrew
Music is my life. As cheesy as that phrase goes, for me, it holds true. Everything I do and have been doing has been geared towards music. I've been in one working/gigging band or other without break for the past 10 years. I began intensely learning to play guitar at the age of 9 and have not stopped. The second I started learning I knew that that was what I wanted to do. Fast forward to now, and here I am loving every minute of it. I took lessons of my own as a kid, which helped shape me greatly. I then picked up bass at the age of 13.
I've taught personalized lessons for nearly 10 years now without a single complaint. At this point in my musical career, the majority of my experience and attitude has come from being "in the field". I've played tiny dives to music festivals with crowds of thousands and been on tour and lived the
whole life more often than not!
YOU can be an active musician. If you have the passion and desire. The first step though, is learning your instrument. Learning an instrument is something that stays with you for the rest of your life. It's an unfaltering companion that can benefit you in so many ways. I like to toss out the strict "teacher/student" regiment and create a laid back, fun, easy going atmosphere. I want to be buds and SHARE music with each other and introduce you into this world that I have grown to love so so much. There is nothing more rewarding. I promise. So let's get started!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very laid back. Your progress is directly linked to you. I will give it my all to teach you and help you, but if you don't practice or soak it in, that's on you! I hate having a tense, seminar type lesson atmosphere. Lessons with me will be easy going and relaxed. I don't want to have to put on a sweater vest and wag my finger as a I scold you. That's just not me.
However, I DO expect you to get things done. Why waste your time with lessons if you're not going to take them seriously on any level? The curriculum will be totally personalized for YOU. After all, not everybody likes the same music and style. The first lesson or two will be getting a handle on exactly what YOU want to learn and what YOU want out of it. Finding out your favorite bands/artists, guitar players, bass players, etc. There's nothing worse than being taught something you have no desire for, but having it drilled into your head week after week! So whether that be blues, folk, metal, whatever, that's the first step. With that information I'll begin constructing and laying out the rest of your lesson plan.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Although I assume you have an instrument of your own (if not I recommend getting one, it sort of helps), if you're looking to just try things out at first I have more than a few extra that I'd be happy to let you use. My teaching studio doubles as a recording studio as well. This means 2 things: if ever you would like to record some of your music you know where to go! And also, I have the means to record the entire lesson if you'd like. You'll need to supply the blank CD(s) of course. It's not a requirement to record the lesson, just an option! Basically, I have everything you could ever possibly need for music lessons here. So you're set.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitars, amps, etc. anything that would be needed I've got!

*** Specialties ***
I am versed in blues, rock, metal, folk, hardcore, acoustic-finger-style and various other acoustic styles, and more. Through teaching and experience as a working musician I have mastered most genres and styles. When sitting at home jamming in my free time, I probably most frequently find myself playing acoustic finger-style, blues, folk, or rock, but love and appreciate most styles. So, bring it on!

I am a brand new student to guitar and Andrew is very patient. He knows how to put instructions into a demonstration for me to understand when I am having difficulty. He won’t let you fall into bad practices and has already helped me through several hurdles in only 2 months time. He is very accomplished musician and I recommend him to beginners or advanced guitarists.

Andrew is a great teacher. He is a very nice guy who puts you at ease from the beginning. His love and appreciation of music is infectious. After each lesson with Andrew I feel excited about becoming a musician. He explains things in a way that makes sense to a beginner and it’s obvious that he wants to help his students become good musicians. I’m glad that I found a guitar teacher like Andrew. Daniel is very talented in music. I admire his ability to sing the tune by looking at notes. His flexibility allows me to set my own time and goals. With his help, I am able to excel in ABRSM exams that previous teachers couldn't. I'm happy to have him as my piano teacher.

I am experiences in trumpet and piano, trumpet being my main instrument, been playing both approximately over 25 years. I have in Associate degree in Music education.
I have self taught myself to sing alto, guitar, handbells, organ, percussion and french horn for approximately over 15 years. I start learning music off and on from at the age of 10. For trumpet players, I well use any books they are using in school band or a book I think they may need based on their level; I will let them use my book also with the encouragement to bring any music they like or love. I will always make lessons fun and educational.

"Quality begins with the teacher". A native of Jacksonville, Fl. I began my classical piano studies at the age of 5, under Mrs. Joy Warren who was a student of the renowned Dr. Leo Podolski. I remained with her for twelve years. A graduate of Stetson University School of Music, with a major in Piano and Voice. I studied piano performance under Dr. Roger Cushman, Senior Professor of Piano at Stetson University, who received his Masters and Doctorate at Yale and Oxford University. I studied Vocal Performance under Mollie Rich, Professor of Voice, and after rece
iving my Piano and Voice degree at Stetson University I chose to do further vocal study under Jane Rolandi, opera singer, and Professor of Voice at Converse College in South Carolina.

I am currently a member of the Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA), Cypress Creek Music Teachers Association (CCMTA local chapter), The National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), Conroe Junior Music Club (CJMC) and The American College of Musicians. My studio is open to students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced students preparing for competitions and all the way through to their college auditions. I believe in leading the pupil step by step; with no detail left undone.

Janet is the most knowledgeable and technical piano and voice teacher I have ever known. She pushes her students to be the absolute best while encouraging them along the way in their gifts. If you're serious about learning and becoming the best you can be in piano or voice, without a doubt Janet is the teacher for you! She expects a lot from her students, but puts in even more on her end to prepare you to be the best that you can be. You won't find another teacher around who cares about her job the way she does!
