I've taught people who were just beginning violin (both children and adults) to students who were working on major concertos. What is most important to me as a teacher is that the student connect with the music and their instrument by being creative and personalizing my approach for the student. I also strongly strive to make performers out of violinists and to help them engage both audiences and themselves.

About Ha-eun

I have been surrounded by music my whole life and have played violin for 19 years. I went to high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy, obtained a BM in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory and an MM at the Boston Conservatory. I have won competitions, played in professional orchestras, per

Her help with bow hold, relaxation with the right hand and arm, will help me enjoy playing.

Ha-eun is fantastic! She is helping our 10 year-old daughter master a new piece she needs to learn within the next 2 weeks. Can't praise her enough! We do in person as well as internet lessons. During the lesson, Ha-eun is focused on the student and her passion for music and fondness of teaching others truly shows. Listening to her playing the violin to show how it should be done is a delight. We consider ourselves lucky to have such a great teacher.
Alexander
In one lesson, Ha-eun gave me excellent adjustments to improve my technique. I'll definitely be coming back.

Violin:
A wooden stringed instrument in the violin family; it is the smallest and highest-pitched. The violin typically has four strings tuned in perfect fifths, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow across its strings, though it can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato). Violins are important instruments in a wide variety of musical genres. They are most prominent in the Western classical tradition and in many varieties of folk music. They are also frequently used in genres of folk including country music and bluegrass music and in jazz. Electric violins are used in some forms of rock music; further, the violin has come to be played in many non-Western music cultures, including Indian music and Iranian music. The violin is sometimes informally called a fiddle, particularly in Irish traditional music and bluegrass, but this nickname is also used regardless of the type of music played on it.
Lessons always start with the basics: Tuning, hand/bow

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

Whether you're 3 or 103, if you're playing violin (or starting to play!) I hope you're EXCITED about it!! Over the years, my students have said that their lessons are/have been their favorite times of each week. I believe learning to play viola should be full of joy, learning, thinking, and feeling. Bring that joy alive for yourself by partnering with me as your musical guide. I bring over 30 years of experience and pure joy to my work, and I'd love to share that with you!

"I had been playing the violin for years but had gone on a long hiatus before I began taking lessons with Evan. I decided I wanted to take up the violin again, for pleasure, and he went above and beyond to ensure that I really got everything out of my lessons as possible, while making sure I had fun. He retrained me on a lot of fundamental work I'd lost and/or resisted as a child/teenager (I never thought I'd actually like playing etudes!) and he also drilled other beginner- to advanced-level skills into my playing. I will forever appreciate how he did this with a positive approach (non-confrontational, while professional), because he really improved my skills beyond what they had been even when I was playing professionally and competitively, years ago. Evan developed a great curriculum that was very well-personalized; he made me look forward to lessons (and he actually made me enjoy practicing!); and, most of all, he helped me appreciate the violin in a much more profound sense than ever before. Also, let me mention that he is talented and skilled beyond comprehension, so he's about as highly qualified as they come. I encourage you to take a few lessons with Evan and see how quickly you'll develop in his capable hands."

"Tania has been a great teacher for my son. He started learning violin with the Suzuki method and studied with a Suzuki teacher for about four years before stopping lessons. He became interested in violin again in middle school and decided he wanted to take private lessons while in 7th grade. Tania had no trouble getting him back on track, picking up with some Book 2 pieces and moving on to Book 3. She has helped him with his bowing, vibrato and shifting, and his sound has really improved. She also has helped him learn to read better and has introduced some basic music theory into lessons. My son really likes his lessons, and feels that he is learning what he needs. Overall, I like her approach, which I think works very well for this level. She is an excellent musician, and this comes through in her teaching."
