I begin with a method book (either Hal Leonard or Essential Elements based on the student's age and interests) and from there I tailor the curriculum to fit the student's musical preferences and goals.

About Richard
I have studied, performed and taught music for over 30 years. Accordion was my first instrument at age 7 which was a great introduction to the keyboard, melody and harmony. That was followed by guitar and other stringed instruments (Banjo, Ukulele) as well as drums. I studied with great teachers

I start many children ukulele initially, whose hands and bodies are too small to begin guitar. We can build on their knowledge and musical journey keeping both instruments in mind (not necessary however) as they grow and mature into guitar. Best to "Ask a Question" via email to get our process started.

I've always played music - piano, guitar, bassoon and ukulele. My specialty is teaching senior citizens the joy of music. I also love teaching children as well...and my method is strum and sing. We'll learn how to read tabs and chords and just enjoy songs they love - any age, any genre. I work with all challenges.

Experienced music teacher with nearly 10 years experience teaching students of all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced. I also have experience teaching music to students with special needs, including autism and total vision impairment. I begin accepting students for guitar at age 4 and teach students up to age 99+. The ukulele is a great instrument for any age, but especially good for very young students or folks with smaller hands that find guitar too challenging to handle. With lessons from me, you'll learn to read music and understand tab, develop your ear for hearing music (ear training), music theory, and technique with a goal of getting you playing your favorite style of music in the quickest time possible. I can teach you to play whatever style you wish. I can even help you learn to compose your own music! To accomplish that, I use a variety of learning aids and games to assist you in learning to read music and understand the deeper concepts of music theory. I taylor ...

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Very very good uke teacher. He goes the extra thousand miles. When I give him my songsheet of what I want to learn He already had played it on his music box to show me the right rhythm. When I got a songsheet that was for guitar he transpose it to ukulele. He listened carefully and give me feedback on how to improve my playing. He showed me the correct finger position for the harder chords and give me ideas of how to practice certain strums. Very nice and professional ! Makes me want to practice my uke more. Thouroughly enjoyable experience !"

I had a great experience! Started playing the Uke right away.
Learned 2 songs and 6 chords, and how to tune my very first lesson.
She makes the work fun. Totally recommend!!!"

All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen"

The Grateful Dead had a lot of influences come together from each band member to create a musical sort of quilt. They played everything from free jazz to country and bluegrass to folk and rock. Their influence is still felt throughout the musical landscape today with bands like Phish and Dave Matthews Band. They also help create a whole new trajectory for an entire genre, Bluegrass by capturing that audience with traditional tunes and playing them through their own unique rock band filte …
