Nikita is an incredible teacher. He has taught me so much about control, elevating my playing greatly. He will always have more ways for you to improve, as he is very particular, yet he will continually make you excited about the violin and love what you are doing. Being under the instruction of Nikita has prepared me for college and has brought me closer to my future life as a musician. I would recommend him as a teacher to ANYBODY.

I have experience teaching students ages four through late 60’s, levels Pre-K through collegiate level. During my years of teaching, I have encountered and successfully instructed students of a wide variety of learning styles. From these experiences I have become adept at adapting my teaching methods on-the-spot in order to patiently, enthusiastically, and creatively introduce and reinforce concepts in a manner tailored to each student. In addition to equipping my students with proper violin technique and nurturing their musical integrity, my commitments as a teacher are to empower and assist my students in developing their communication skills and confidence, instill a lasting curiosity for learning, and foster a genuine love for the imaginative and expressive capabilities of music.

All of my students learn how to read music from the beginning of their playing. For addressing technique with young kids, I use fun pneumonic devices such as "pizza box hand," "flamingo arm," and "umbrella fingers," to help my students remember, identify, and visualize proper hand, arm, and finger placement. We practice note names and rhythm through singing and memorization games. With these activities, students practice at home on their own and advance weekly between lessons while developing a love for playing the violin.

Whether your child is a preparing for an audition for school, college, conservatory, a competition, or a complete beginner, I'll personalize lessons based on your/your child's specific goals and needs. I also accept adult students interested in picking up a new, rewarding hobby, or looking to improve their technique to join a community orchestra.

Please contact TakeLessons to hear more about my teaching philosophy!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music Stand, lesson materials, rhythm flashcards, stickers, colored pencils

*** Specialties ***
I teach students how to read music and rhythms with quick effectiveness! This enables students to be independent during their weekly practicing and supplements their weekly progress.

Lauren is an excellent teacher for adult students!

At the age of 54 I decided to purchase a violin and learn to play. I found Lauren Cauley through Takelessons.com and could not be more pleased with her!! She has taught me so much in my first four weeks. She's patient with me and encourages me when I get discouraged with my play. She is quick to answer the numerous questions I have. She is an extremely talented musician with a talent for teaching. She pushes me in my weekly assignments and ensures I've mastered one level before we move to the next. Thanks Lauren!!

I strongly believe that, if every child would be provided with an ideal environment, would gain extraordinary ability. There are no exceptions. No one can tell how able man is by the nature. What is known is the ability that is spoiled or developed. It cannot be denied that most children speak their native languages beautifully by learning about 3000-4000 words by age 5 or 6. Nothing can clearer demonstrate of the original power of the human mind. Through the years of studying and teaching music I realized that this is the most important concept for developing each kid's talent, to increase his or her ability to the maximum. Therefore I am combining the great methods of teaching violin. The Suzuki method and the Russian school method. Suzuki method helps at the earliest stage of playing an instrument and I am using later Russian school method for more advanced period of studying.

Love music? Want to learn more about it and have your fine fingers in a fiddling frenzy? I cannot promise a 12-day boot camp with virtuosic results, but what I can promise is a teacher who is dedicated to her craft, and will pour into you her passion every step of the way.

Now, let’s get to jamming!

About Lauren
Lauren Douglas, a native of Chicago and former resident of Vero Beach, FL, fits into just about every genre of music with her fiddle playing. Her malleability within the industry has afforded her multiple opportunities performing and recording with artists who have styles ranging from Classical to Bluegrass.

Lauren’s latest release, Reminiscent + Relevant, features an array of talent from artists Nathan Taylor, Marc Greenspon, and Maggie Chafee. The eight-track album encapsulates the soul of traditional, Old Time fiddle, while incorporating a cheeky, bluesy element. The album also includes hints of Celtic fiddle, as well as Dance from the Black Sea, an Indian-influenced tune. The tracks take listeners on a journey through time, as well as exploring the different cultural possibilities of string instruments.

Before moving to Nashville t
o pursue music performance studies at Belmont University, Lauren was concertmaster of the Vero Beach High School Orchestra for two consecutive years. She has won multiple concerto competitions within her hometown, as well as fiddle competitions. Lauren founded the classical string quartet, Seaside Strings, in her hometown, and folk/fiddle trio, Elle & the Rootabega Boys. Since living in Nashville, Lauren has had multiple opportunities to participate in local, multi-style recording sessions and performances. She has played most regularly with local Kansas-born singer-songwriter, Savanna Chestnut, and together they toured Florida last Spring to play the 2016 Strawberry Festival in Plant City. Lauren founded and hosted Jamboree, a monthly jam session for students, as well as fiddle video series, Rootabega Sessions.

Currently, Lauren is apart of a classical quintet, a multi-style wedding trio, folk/Americana band, Michelle Knopick & the Screwdrivers, World Fiddle Ensemble, the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, the Nashville-based Bluegrass band, Almanac Ridge. Other notable musicians Lauren has performed with include Belmont alumni, Brave Town, and Kentucky-based Irish band, Feckless Fear Dearg in 2015 and 2016. In October 2016, Michelle Knopick & the Screwdrivers played the Neewollah Festival, Kansas’ largest Fall Festival. Lauren kickstarted her solo recording career by releasing a cover of Natalie MacMaster’s Volcanic Jig in 2015, followed by Reminiscent + Relevant in 2016. She studies privately with Juilliard graduate and protégé of Dorothy Delay, Elisabeth Small, and Grammy Award-winning Tammy Rogers-King of The SteelDrivers. Lauren’s influences include Hanneke Cassel, Brittany Haas, and The Punch Brothers.

I began playing the violin in fourth grade and continued all the way through high school. I spent a lot of time learning the technique of solo playing as well as the balance necessary with the other instruments of the orchestra. I also spent two years in my high school’s chamber orchestra.

My studio is ideal for the study of violin because I can accompany my students on my grand piano.

About Ben
Music Lessons & Tutoring

Welcome to my studio, where I will instruct you in your musical and academic endeavors. What sets me apart is that I offer diverse instruction in two different areas. In my music studio, I give lessons in piano, violin, guitar, and composition. In my tutoring center, I specialize in Latin (learning from scratch and tutoring). I instruct students of all ages at different skill levels.

My in-studio lessons are given on a grand piano.

Education

BM Music Composition -- Ohio State University, Autumn 2012
BA Classics (Greek and Latin) -- Ohio State University, Autumn 2012
Classics Fellowship -- Indiana University, 2013-2014
Piano Training: Collegiate lessons from Steven Glaser and private lessons from George Haddad

Accomplishments

As a high school senior, under the tutelage of OSU Profess
or Emeritus and world-renowned pianist George Haddad, I performed the first movement of Shostakovich's Second Piano Concerto with the chamber orchestra.

I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers' Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.

My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU's Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.

For our first online lesson, I was very impressed. We still need to learn more about the technical aspects of being online (example: where to move the output video placement) but I think that just adds to the fun and experience of the whole process.

At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.

I took a break and went to college to earn my A.A. in Music and my Piano Performance Certificate from Riverside Community College in California. I graduated Great Distinction and was on the Dean's list. I received many piano and academic scholarships. While in college I started my studio in Riverside California teaching Piano to an autistic child. I taught him 3 times a week and made exceptional progress. I enjoyed it so much I started teaching full time in 2008 teaching piano, harp, violin, voice, guitar, flute and clarinet. Soon I had 50 students and created a 501 (c) (3) non-profit music school. My students and I perform for the public, including nursing homes. The performances are important for the students progress as well as the Piano Guild where students are

Natalia makes sure to ground her students in the basics. It's not enough to just play the notes; you have to know their names and how they fit together into scales and chords. She's also endlessly patient and is always willing to make adjustments if some aspect of lessons isn't working for a particular student.

I decided to take up the piano after many years away from music, and I couldn't have been more delighted with Natalia's encouragement and guidance in that process. Even more, at the end of every lesson, she asked whether there was anything that she could be doing better. That openness to hear questions, criticism, or constructive feedback, is really the hallmark of a good teacher.
