Suzuki pedagogy employed for beginners

About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

Mr. Cooper is an experienced teacher. He teaches piano, violin & vocal from basic to advance level. My son has been taking piano classes from him for the past 3+ years. He loves to go to Mr. Cooper's classes. The foremost quality in Mr. Cooper is that he seeks perfection and tries to imbibe the same in his students. He encourages all his students to perform their best and is extremely patient in dealing with his students. Mr. Cooper lets me sit in my son's lessons and I got my 101 on classical music with these sessons. I can appreciate what my son plays and also now able to appreciate classical music in general.
Mr. Cooper encourages all his students to participate in IMA annual contests and puts a lot of effort in preparing his students for the same.

I decided to start singing lessons with Mr. Cooper about a year ago and I'm very pleased with the Service. I believe Mr. Cooper is a very gifted musician and singer who has a real ability to understand music and teach that understanding in a relatable way. I'm just beginning to learn about different musical concepts that really help me understand how to learn more effectively. I appreciate everything he's helped me with and plan to continue learning as much as possible.
I would highly recommend him for any relevant musical training.

I've been teaching Violin for a little over a year now, and my students have made great progress in their bow technique, tone quality, and performance. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a stronger, more supported sound and as time goes on you'll be able to expand your range beyond what you thought possible. I specialize in working with beginners, focusing on reading music as much as playing skills. Typically, I use the combination of the Suzuki Method book in addition to the Essential Elements violin books. Additionally, I love to work with each student to meet his or her own personal goals. I cannot wait to meet you and get started!

About Kristin
Let's get you started on your musical path! My name is Kristin, and I cannot wait to begin this journey into music with you. I have been teaching private lessons for nearly a decade, and have taught music and choir in the classroom since 2011. I specialize in working with beginners of all ages.

Music has been my passion for my entire life. From singing to playing in band and everything in between, I ultimately achieved my degree in Music Education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the top ten of my class from VanderCook College of Music.

I tailor my approach to each student. Some students require more technical work, some require interpretive. Both are fascinating and can be taught with structure and clarity.

Martina is very skilled at what she does, and she is an amazing teacher. She pointed out all of my strengths and weaknesses at the first lesson, and she always teaches at my pace and not her own, giving me the opportunity to completely learn something before moving on to more difficult things. She is overall a very friendly person who you will feel incredibly comfortable to be around, and she always does the best job that she can to teach me every single lesson. I look forward to our lessons every week, and I am simply amazed by how much I am progressing under her guidance.

My daughter is 14yr old and is passionate about music. Finding Mrs. Ignatov has been a blessing. In the past year and a half, my daughter's technique (bowing, phrasing, intonation) has improved vastly under her instruction.
She cares about her students and wants them to achieve their goals/dreams. My daughter made the CYSO's Philharmonic Orchestra in her first year of auditioning, all thanks to the guidance of Mrs. Ignatov and her attentiveness to details!
If you or your child love music and wish to achieve your full potential, Mrs. Ignatov will help you get there.

A good violin lesson is all about balance: balance between études and repertoire, between technique and expression, even between historical/contextual information and elements of music theory. In the end, the most important things are that the student is learning, and that the student is having fun.

About Mallory
Hello, I'm Mallory! I've been studying Violin for 11 years and, and have played piano for 12.
I have just graduated from the Chicago College of Performing Arts in May with a degree in Classical Violin Performance. I have additional experience in Jazz/contemporary music, Pop Music, and Improvisation.
I have about 5-6 years of piano training over the course of my life and have taken college level courses geared towards teaching piano to beginners and adults.
Over the years, I have taught private violin lessons and coached elementary and middle school chamber ensembles. I currently teach private lessons at two studios in Chicago, and teach after school group lessons at local elementary schools.
Overall, I absolutely love what I do--playing music and teaching--and I especially look forward to working with you!

This was our first lesson of this kind online. My daughter has taken lessons before and became bored and never wanted to practice. I see a whole new excitement in her! The lessons taught by Mallory were built perfectly for my daughters age level. I can tell that she has taken the time to make sure it's a good fit for the age of the person she is teaching. Everything from the words she used, the songs she taught her and the movements really kept her interested. I can't wait to see what is in store moving forward. I was worried she wouldn't get that one on one attention type of feel online, but it was just as if she was right there with her. She was also able to type the homework right on the screen for us. This was just so convenient. I love not having to leave the house on a school night.

The principle central to my method of teaching is that the student is not a container that needs to be filled, but rather a light bulb that needs to be turned on. So, first and foremost I teach my students how to think, not what to think.

Whether you are pursing serious study or simply a casual mentor, I'll provide instruction to suit your needs. There is nothing more rewarding for me than making a student aware of their gifts and understand how to nurture them going on, making my 'job' obsolete.

About Matthew
Music is something all of use as a form of vitality! It's something that humanity universally enjoys and participates in; whether it's through listening to music, attending a concert or actually playing, you are part of music.

I've always believed that anyone can develop musical talent once the correct learning environment is set up. When teaching, my responsibilities include inspiring the child and advising the parent so our goals can be accomplished during the week. I adapt my teaching style to suit the needs of each student, so I can keep my students interested in playing and motivated by their own accomplishments.

My aim is to establish the fundamentals of good playing from an early stage of study; such fundamentals are careful listening, correct posture and efficient motion patterns. In order to achieve these goals, I incorpo
rate pedagogical concepts from Paul Rolland, Ivan Galamian, Kato Havas and ones that I've developed, using familiar repertoire to learn new techniques. Small steps are celebrated as building blocks to a better playing technique.

Learning the violin is dynamic and full of creativity and problem solving. We are at the same time disciplinarians, cheerleaders, poets, psychologists, and violinists. As a performer myself, I demonstrate frequently in front of my students. In fact, I will often choose passages that I can't play perfectly myself but that I am able to greatly improve right in front of their eyes. My goal in doing this is to show them how in a relatively short amount of time, but with immense focus, one can solve a problem; in a sense, I am practicing in front of them.

Whether the violin is an interest, hobby or something you want to pursue professionally, I'll always give you the best advice and training to achieve your personal goals.

My current private students have had great success in studio recitals and becoming confident in their own musical ability. I'll always bring a positive and encouraging attitude to tackle any obstacle in your playing.
