David enjoys teaching ukulele to beginner and intermediate students. Whether you are just starting out or you've been playing for a while, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He teaches chord formations and strum patterns, along with learning specific songs the student would like to learn.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

Students will benefit from a personally customized approach to learning, exploring musical styles that range from rock to pop, blues to country, punk to folk, and at every level of musical experience. Tim is a teacher with 20 years of teaching and performing experience.

Ukulele:
Sometimes abbreviated to uke, it is a member of the lute family of instruments; it generally employs four nylon or gut strings or four courses of strings. Some strings may be paired in courses, giving the instrument a total of six or eight strings. The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, mainly from Madeira and the Azores. The tone and volume of the instrument vary with size and construction. Ukuleles commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. I can also teach you to become a musician by teaching from the beginning with the very basics of finger placement, reading, notes, rhythms, songs, scales, theory and improvisation....or, we can do both!

Ukulele is the perfect instrument for young students learning their first instrument. It's incredibly easy to get off the ground and start making music right away. For that reason, it's one of my favorite instruments to teach, and it's the instrument I recommend to first-time music students, even if they eventually want to switch to other instruments.
