The work horse of the orchestra, the violin is easily recognizable and very popular. Violin lessons include theory, technique, repertoire, and basic posture. We'll work together to design a lesson plan that works for you and your learning style.

About Gail
I studied music from elementary school through high school, taking a break to have a family. After I volunteered to teach Kindergarten and first grade music at a school in Lakeside, I picked up my instruments and began to study again in earnest. Many hours of study, lessons and practice later, I am a better musician than I have ever been, and I've also gained a valuable perspective on teaching that I never could have had by simply being a musician.

I currently play viola with Equinox Quartet, playing Renaissance music up through the Baroque period.

My strengths lie in working with young children, helping them both understand music and love it. My goal for every student is to leave me having a strong understanding of theory, musicianship and desire to seek out more opportunities for growth. I work with each student to tailor a prog
ram specifically for their needs, from working through simple bowing mechanics issues to the psychology of performance. Each student has different challenges to overcome, and simply using a one-size fits all approach is not going to help them.

I pride myself in being flexible and available to to my students for questions, whenever they may need to ask them. I believe that you shouldn't have to wait for the next lesson to have the question answered that may just make the pieces start coming together a bit quicker for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson consists of checking student's progress, addressing any immediate issues and working on skill building.

OK, so those are the basics, but what happens is so much more than that! One student may have trouble hitting a C#, so we'll work on those. Another may have trouble relaxing, we might spend some time on breathing exercises to help with that. Still another might have a death grip on the neck of their instrument, so we'll do some exercises to help relax their hands.

My goal is to help students get well on their way to a lifetime love of learning and making music.

In 3-6 months, they should be:
* Reading music consistently at a level appropriate to their progress.
* Developing an understanding of rhythm and meter.
* Placing their fingers properly, and reliably for the most part.
* Developing correct posture and holding their instrument and bow in a relaxed manner that suits their body type and facilitates the freedom of movement required for great music.

My newbie (beginner with zero experience) son has been taking violin lessons via skype for almost 2 years now. I specifically was looking for a teacher who could meet us over the internet, considering I needed a break from the commute. Although I wasn't sure this could work, I gave it a shot...& I am SOOO glad I did! I love the flexibility for our lessons to be in the early morning before school, we could only do this online.

My son LOVES playing his violin! It's funny because he wanted to quit once or twice when he came upon new challenges, etc. Gail works patiently with him as he gains confidence, slowly but surely he has improved dramatically. She has customized his lessons perfectly to fit his needs which is what I was hoping for. Online accompaniment to his songs made it even more fun & we just started a fiddle book (my son's request) which he is enjoying enormously.

My son picks up his violin & plays on his own all the time, WOW! He sounds great, is learning good technique & theory, but most importantly he was given a chance to enjoy the learning process, to me this is priceless. You won't be disappointed with Gail, she is a GREAT teacher! So glad we found her!!!

Side note: In the beginning I was trying to figure out how to tune the violin for my son, & fingering.The snark tuner & the chinatera fingerboard sticker gave me some needed confidence that we could do this online.

Gail is a very good and kind violin teacher and was just perfect for my son's introduction to instrument. He really enjoyed the lessons and learning how to play each of the strings then putting them together in a song. It was a wonderful experience.

I was raised in the Suzuki method, trained in it, and I believe in it. It is the most effective school of education for new musicians who want to learn reliably. I've been teaching it 6 years.

I can talk to you for days about the method, but I will sum it up as quickly as i can.

Joshua has been a musician for over twelve years and been a teacher for five. He is an award winning composer, critical thinker, and an honest teacher. Joshua has a high standards for his students and himself. Joshua has studied Suzuki method under Dr. Paula Bird for four years and has taught over 100 students. He performed his official Suzuki training under Dr. Laurie Scott. Joshua also teaches at the Texas State String Project under the direction of Dr. Ames Asbell and Dr. Karla Hamelin. He has done so since it's inception.

Joshua is an award winning composer and has composed over 80 pieces, ranging in style from classical symphony to electronic dance. He has also arranged hundreds of works for violin and piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a relaxed person with a strict teaching style. I have two critical expectations for my stud
ents.

1: I expect my students to practice everyday, with time depending on age. (10 minutes a day for 5 year old's, 20 minutes for 10 year old's, etc.) No exceptions. Lessons are a place for me to teach you, not a place to watch you practice.

2: I expect parents to participate in every lesson. You are the teacher 6 days a week, I'm only get to teach them one.

If everyone understands my expectations, students will grow and learn quickly, and have a great time doing it!

I develop a lesson plan depending on each students strengths, weaknesses, talents, and personality. No one student is identical to the next, so none will be taught the same, but everyone will follow a similar pattern.

My daughter has been taking lessons since may and she loves it. Joshua is a great teacher, he us straight forward and will not move her forward unless she has fully learned what he taught her. If your kids need lesson he is your guy. Thanks for being a great teacher.

I've been playing the violin self-taught for about two years because my first experience with a violin teacher went horribly. So after two years I figured I'd try again.
I was on Reverb Lessons for 6 months, and it was a complete nightmare. The most highly rated teacher they provided didn't seem like he was teaching me anything at all. Most of our lesson were music theory, which was helpful, but I would only play the violin the last 5 mins of the two hour lessons. He kept telling me, "i didn't have it in me to be a violinist" and he told me to play piano instead. Well it turned out he didn't even play the violin!
Completely despondent, I was getting angry that I
might not progress in the violin (which I was madly in love with) but dispite my bitterness I decided to try to find a teacher again.

I've only had three lesson with Josh and I can't articulate how much better I've gotten. He's calm and collective, and gives me exactly the advice I need in order to get better. He's an attentive listener, and responds accordingly. I enjoy his lessons; they are the perfect balance of stern and nurturing. I'm excited to see how I progress as the lessons continue, and I'm thankful that I FINALLY found a good violin instructor

I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

Lessons with me...

I'm passionate about music and its many benefits, both academically, emotionally, and physically. I love to share my joy with my students in a fun, collaborative way that is professional and enjoyable. The pace is determined by the goals of the student, and materials are tailor-made to suit your preferences. Classical instruction is essential for proper technique, but branching out to Celtic fiddle or movie soundtracks is a definite option!

I recommend weekly lessons, and a minimum daily practice plan is required. Younger students should do 30-minute lessons, but around 10-years old, I require 45-60 minute lessons. Serious students preferred.

Theresa S. holds a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Science in Music (Performance) from Texas Woman's University. and graduated Magna Cum Laude, in 1997. Featured in the 1995-1997 editions of the National Dean's List, inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa, Gamma Beta Phi, and Mu Phi Epsilon organizations, serving as the Mu Chi Chapter President from 1998-99. She holds a valid certificate from the Texas Board for Educator Certification. While attending SMU she was a Meadows Scholar. In 2000, she was accepted into the prestigious Musica Schola Cantorum program in Paris. A multiple award winner and featured in Who's Who; she was trained classically while studying with Carlo Pezzimenti and Robert Guthrie. I teach violin from beginner to advanced, from basics, shifting, vibrato, music theory, technique,different bow stokes and styles to the most refine concepts of violin artistry.
I love to teach solo classical repertoire but also violin orchestral repertoire, chamber music repertoire, improvisation and Romanian folk music.
I also teach group ensembles, duos, trios, quartets, etc. I help students with their orchestral music and audition pieces. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors. I am a professional violinist with the National Philharmonic Orchestra at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, Maryland. Graduates of my studio have been admitted to prestigious conservatories such as Oberlin Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Rutgers Mason Gross School of Music and others and have won many competitions throughout the United States.
I have a deep love and appreciation for music and I enjoy teaching my student (from beginners to very advanced or adults). All levels are welcome! My studio is geared towards the motivated student seeking a well-rounde
d enjoyable, yet detailed, music education that focuses on both excellence and artistry.
Special emphasis is placed on building and maintaining a strong classical music base, which is the foundation for all other styles and techniques found in music. Additionally, students are exposed to learning concepts in ear training, sight singing, music theory, music history, folk music and improvisation. This enables students to be exposed to other areas of music such as composing, arranging, conducting, etc., thereby giving each student the unique opportunity to branch out and explore endless opportunities.
All teaching is conducted in a supportive yet challenging environment. Each student is encouraged to think for themselves and develop their own judgment through the development of their ear and musical comprehension.
Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase my students talent and progress and encourage their love for music.
I also organize other activities for my students such as Master classes and Music mind games (for younger students). I have a group class "Building music and memory skills" designated for children age 4 to 6 (children learn basic concepts in music theory and ear training before starting playing an instrument).
I offer a half hour lesson for beginners, a 45 min. lesson for intermediate an an hour lesson for intermediate to advanced students. Above all, I strongly encourage enjoyment of music.
Music should be played from the heart with passion and excitement.

I have two children both taking lessons with Jennifer - one on violin and one on piano. They love when Jennifer shows up at the door and they both run to see who can open it first! Jennifer is a bundle of smiling energy, always excited to teach my kids something new and worthwhile. She makes the lessons fun, never boring. We started off with 30 minute lessons but increased to 45 minutes ‘cause my kids always want her to stay longer!

I am a professional cellist and string music teacher and I'm passionate about helping others enjoy making music. I have worked with students of all skill levels, ages 5 to 85, and my patient and encouraging teaching style ensures that all of my students succeed.

In 2012, I received a Master of Music degree in cello performance and music education from the Ohio State University, where I worked with world-renowned string pedagogue Robert Gillespie. I also held a K-12 Music Teaching License in Ohio and directed the orchestra program in the Grandview Heights public schools, so I'm comfortable teaching violin, viola, cello, and bass. Prior to Ohio, I completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Oregon, where I majored in music education and cello performance. More recently, I taught strings overseas for two years at the America
n Conservatory of Paris in France.

I'm a cellist, but I'm not just a classical musician. In addition to performing with many orchestras and chamber music groups over the years, I have also recorded music for rock bands and learned fiddling, jazz, and improvisation techniques. Talia is absolutely one in a million! Her knowledge and competence as a musician and teacher are outstanding. She is calm, patient, encouraging, and quite attuned to the individual interests and personality of her students. Not many people are able to really "get" and understand the quirkiness of my daughter, but Talia was able to draw her out and to help nurture her strengths and creativity. She truly cares for her students as people and as musicians. What we wouldn't give to have her back! The students here in Columbus,OH who were blessed enough to have her as a teacher feel a great loss in her moving away, and feel a special connection to her. Highly recommend her!

Violinist Andrew Paa enjoys a varied career as an educator, performer, and arts advocate. A dedicated teacher, Andrew has worked with students privately and in music schools in South Dakota, Iowa and Ohio. Currently he maintains a private studio. Priviously he has taught at the Hudson and Fairlawn Schools of Music, Firestone High School, and the Western Reserve Institute of Music. His students have achieved a high degree of success, earning college scholarships and assuming leadership roles in their ensembles.

Andrew has performed across the United States and internationally in venues such as Cleveland's Playhouse Square and the Vienna Konzerthaus. Professionally, he performed, for three seasons, in the first violin section of the Sioux City Symphony. He has played with and assumed principle positions with several collegiate ensembles
including the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, the University of South Dakota Symphony, the Kent State University Orchestra and the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra. Dedicated to performing chamber music, he currently plays with and is the manager of the Cuyahoga String Quartet. Additionally, he has founded several ensembles including the Enigma String Quartet, the Rosen String Quartet, and several piano trios.

Andrew earned a MM in Chamber Music and Violin Performance from Kent State University where he studied with Cathy Meng Robinson (Miami String Quartet) and Jung-Min Amy Lee (Assistant Concertmaster with The Cleveland Orchestra). He studied chamber music with members of the Miami String Quartet and the Verve Chamber Players. Prior to Kent, he earned a MM in Violin Performance from the University of South Dakota studying violin with Dr. Eunho Kim and chamber music with members of the Rawlins Piano Trio. He earned his BA in Music from Luther College where he studied with Drs. Virginia Strauss and Jubal Fulks. Additional studies were undertaken with Frederick Halgedahl, Dan Auberbach and Maria Peters.

Andrew is an extremely knowledgeable and talented teacher. He explains technique exceptionally well, has an impressive understanding of phrasing and musicality while playing, and is very patient and understanding, he has a great sense of humor, while also giving students the right amount of push they need. He has high expectations but they are always attainable for his students, and he is very flexible with each students unique needs. I highly recommend him as an instructor, he is worth every penny and students always see quick and impressive improvement; I know I did while I studied with him.
