Excellent teacher for our 14 year old beginner. His instruction was conversational, engaging and relevant to my son's interests and skill level. Pleasant and courteous demeanor as well. Highly recommend Camden.

Camden was an excellent instructor for our 13 year-old daughter. Although we had a handful of scheduling issues where timing was not communicated clearly by the instructor in every case (hence the reduction from 5 stars to 4), when he was present he was patient, engaged and really focused on finding ways to get our daughter to enjoy the learning process.

I find ukulele to often work better than guitar for many young students (typically years 10 and younger). When appropriate, the student can transition to guitar having increased hand strength and learned many of the concepts needed to excel. Of course, ukulele makes for a fun (and ultra-portable) instrument in its own right!

About Wes
I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I ha
ve a lesson plan that I follow for beginning students to get them through the basics. As a teacher I am laid back, and positive, but always try to give the student a clear reflection of how they are progressing. I find that some students thrive with a lot of structure and others prefer a looser approach and I am quite comfortable teaching both ways. If the student maintains a consistent practice regimen, they should be able to play songs from the radio within 3 or 4 months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the living room with an amp, keyboard, computer, desk, parents can sit on couch in a separate room

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my student to provide their instrument (including amp if necessary) and any instructional materials required.

*** Specialties ***
I have had a lot of experience teaching beginning and intermediate students with method books, and have used them to teach reading, theory, technique, and repertoire. Most often, I take a slightly looser approach which I feel allows me to mold my teaching to fit the individual student's needs

Wes has been teaching my son, age 7, for four months now and we could not be happier! He manages to be very informative while keeping it fun and interesting without being silly or boring. Wes's enthusiasm for the guitar is contagious. I am thrilled with my son's progress and level of continued interest. Thank you Wes!

Excellent Instructor

Wes is an excellent instructor. He is patient, clear, encouraging, fun, and totally professional. I highly recommend him to anyone (young or old) wanting to learn the guitar.

Wes listens to what the student wants to learn and sets his lessons to help the student achieve their goals. Our lessons are in the instructor's studio, which is a safe, accessible, and clean environment.

I look forward to our future sessions and continuing my guitar learning under his instruction.

Have fun learning Uke!

About Casey
While still in high school, three of my songs were featured on National Public Radio and I was able to play at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. I next went to school at App State and then graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music and headlined the graduation concert! My grad school was moving around Atlanta, Savannah, Athens, Nashville, New York and Chicago as a hired guitarist, and teaching in music stores. I played in a wide range of styles and roles (engineer, promoter, musical director, band leader etc) and around 300 gigs!

I took a break last year to finish 2 books I had bounci
ng around in my head and hard drive and self published them last year! The books compliment lessons so our time is spent showing you how to play and playing together, not you looking at me, while I draw a chord. The books have tab with rhythm, chord/scale diagrams and a written description of each topic like an encyclopedia. They also show you how music fits together and give you a solid foundation to build on and music ideas you can use.

As a performer in Savannah, Georgia, my band received the "Best Blues Band" award from Connect Magazine in 2007. I'm currently endorsing Curt Mangan Strings and Gadow Guitars because they're awesome!!!

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is all about building on what you already know and pointing out what you're doing right. I'm a very laid back person and love to hear and learn new music so I try to incorporate the music you want to learn as much as possible. Above all else I try to teach you how to practice so that you get the most out of your guitar when you're not in your lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
recording studio, amps, music stand chairs...has a dog.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Travel amp, acoustic or electric, cables.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching theory, technique, performance and improvisation through song so you don't feel like you're working. I am fluent in and have performed these styles on stage: rock, jazz, blues, pop, metal, show tunes, surf, funk, jam, and R&B. I like it all! I teach you to have a solid foundation and how to get songs performance ready. I also try to encourage you to write your own music and can show you some ways to be more creative and get more mileage out of some of the things you already know.

Beginners focus on note and tablature reading basic melodies and chords in the first position. Once they reach the intermediate and advanced stage, we expand and learn to apply the foundation to music the student enjoys based on their own individual goals.

About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my stude
nts are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to know music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Maria has taught my son for the past 5 years; 4 years in person, 1 year (so far) on Skype. We found her through a referral and it was the perfect fit. She was very attentive to his learning abilities and ambitions. He loves guitar but didn't want to play professionally however she never backed off on him. He has learned many styles and has gone through all levels of the Mel Bay Guitar series. James could easily have gone on to college and he plays better than some in the music program at his school, but instead he just keeps up with it for fun. Maria hooked him up with the guitar teacher at his college so he plays in the guitar ensemble, jazz band, and a worship band while taking FaceTime lessons with her once a week. He's studying to become a pediatrician but I'm so thankful Maria has really helped make music a lifelong outlet for him. James choose a very stressful path but I truly believe the guitar has helped keep everything balanced.

I am so thankful for Maria. Coming out of college I didn't quite know what to do. I began taking lessons with Maria based on a referral but honestly wasn't expecting much. I will always feel horrible about that because she is the best thing that could have happened to me. I've grown more in the past two years than I did for the 5 years in undergrad. I've been offered a full ride to University of Houston next year but I will continue to sing her praises and work with her whenever I am back in town. I'm dreading that our last lesson is approaching because I couldn't have gotten where I am without her.

Maria has coached me for every audition and part I have gotten for the past 5 years. She was referred to me by another one of her students. She is worth every penny. I'm moving to LA as I've just been cast as a series regular on a new ABC comedy but will be coaching with Maria online. I will be forever her student. She's a complete genius.

Great things come in small packages! I am happy to adjust to your goals whether you've never picked one up or are looking to sharpen your chops onstage. Let's uke it up!

About Ian
My love and need for music began with my father’s record collection. Early memories of Ray Charles tunes and Beatles albums drew me to the piano at an early age. While in high school I got serious about the instrument and struck gold upon finding jazz greats like Bud Powell, Dexter Gordon, and my musical hero: Charlie Parker. As a teaching assistant in my own high school jazz band I immediately felt a deep connection with the learning process. After performing with the Emory University Big Band during my junior year of high school I was accepted to and attended the Georgia Governor's Honors Pr
ogram where I sharpened my skills and further expanded my love for music and education.
In addition to teaching lessons I have since performed extensively both on stage and in the studio. Music has taught me self-discipline, dedication, gratitude, and most importantly patience. These are ideals I invest into everything I do and hope to share. I thank you in advance for your consideration.
