As a violin teacher, I love helping my students achieve their goals!
I believe not only the results matter, but also the journey. I focus my lessons on helping the student learn and have a deeper understanding of music theory, harmony, rhythm, technique, and how all those apply to the violin. I specialize in classical music and I use methods such as Suzuki, Essential Elements, and many others to help you become a better violinist. The lessons take place in a relaxed and fun setting :)

I love teaching violin students of all levels and ages! I focus on having fun playing as well as tone production, intonation, musicality and how to develop a regular practice routine.

My teaching career began while I was a Conservatory graduate student. Teaching and performing are complementary aspects of being a musician. Instructing others provides a deeper, more thorough understanding of my own approach to playing. Several decades of performing in professional orchestras and chamber music ensembles grants a life time of practical experience to share with my students.

While the serious pursuit of a professional level of accomplishment on two diverse instruments such as the violin and the flute is unusual, the idiomatic characteristics of each one have given me unique insights into other. Over the years I have discovered concepts that have enhanced my performing and teaching of both. These ideas have allowed me to present an integrated approach and perspective for both instruments that not many other teachers would have.

Music should never simply be a rote-learning process. We develop real artistry. My students learn how to interpret, transform, and create music. From the first lesson, we experiment with various musical "ingredients" and revisit these tools often as we move through a lesson series or repertoire. Students explore a variety of styles and learn to read, compose, and improvise. Students as young as five have created their own theme and variations on a favorite tune with these techniques.

I have been teaching violin since 1998. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

Drawing from decades of study and growing up in a household of violinists, I have developed my teaching style from a composite of old school violin technique with modern pedagogy. My goal is to help my students achieve the focused sound they need to play whatever they aspire to.
