I've been playing guitar in pop, rock, and jazz settings for several years, and strive to teach all of my students how to best express themselves musically. If you would like to play in a band, learn how to write songs, or even learn to improvise, I can help you achieve your musical goals.
Hello! My name is Sean H, and I am very passionate about helping my students accomplish their musical goals. I have been teaching for over six years and also have extensive experience as a performer. I have received several musical awards, including the prestigious Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and have a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.
As a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, and bandleader, I have experience in many different aspects of music that I pass along to my students. I give lessons on upright and electric bass, guitar, piano, saxophone, and clarinet. In addition to this, I offer songwriting, ear training, and music theory lessons.
Sean was really on the spot with us. I am a beginning strings instructor, and my son didn't want to take lessons from anyone but me. Not only did Sean win me over with his pedagogy, but he won my son over as well.
I've been teaching guitar for 5 years helping students develop a love for the instrument and learn more about music along the way. There are many styles I'm comfortable teaching from folk (fingerpicking or flatpicking), rock, blues and funk and I would love working on developing a unique style of your own. Within the first few lessons you'll have a solid base of strumming, picking and chord changes and even a few simple songs under your belt. Moving on from there I will craft lessons to move you toward a "goal song," making sure to cater your progress to your needs while keeping a focus on good technique. I enjoy working with students of all ages and experiences and I can't wait to meet you!
Ryan is a musician from Jefferson Park who plays a plethora of different instruments. He specializes in guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele, but also dabbles in accordion, piano, drums, harmonica and several others. Learning to play instruments is one of the true pleasures in his life and he hopes he can make it one of yours, too.
As a teacher Ryan's goals are fairly simple. First and foremost he wants to make his lessons comfortable, interesting and fun. A close second is to build a strong foundation on the basics, so as we learn more advanced techniques we have a solid base of technique to build upon. And third, an understanding of the theory and history behind the music is a great way to engage in the music beyond just the rote learning of technique.
After a brief foray in physics, Ryan settle into a degree in music at the Univer
sity of Illinois, specializing in Ethnomusicology (the study of music of different cultures). This education gave him a strong background in music theory and history in the Western tradition, but also opened him up to a vast experience of a diverse cross section of music from around the world. His insatiable love for learning new instruments started here, where he studied music from West Africa to Bali.
Currently Ryan is a co-lead singer, songwriter and stringed instrument player for the local band Distant Brothers, a folk rock band based out of Chicago. They play venues throughout the Midwest, with some of the notable venues being House of Blues, Metro and Cubby Bear in Chicago. Another highlight of his time with the band has been a collaboration with Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra, where he not only was able to play in collaboration with the orchestra, but joined in the arranging and conceptualization of some of the pieces played.

He clearly loves to play music and is very thoughtful about how he shares this knowledge in his lessons. He never fails to encourage me as a guitar player and reinforces a 'can do' attitude. His positive and calm demeanor also make for a fantastic instructor. Thank you, Dan.

First lesson was a great experience for my kids. They are practicing on their own!!! I could tell they couldn't wait for their next lesson. Thank you Dan!!!
My curriculum is tailored to meet each students specific needs. I am a classically trained guitarist with experience teaching students of all ages and styles. I teach theory, chords, how to read music and more.
I teach guitar, piano, violin and ukulele to anyone 5 or older! Lessons are fun and exciting, we are constantly learning! I am an enthusiastic, patient and motivated teacher.
I can help you understand your fret by giving the basic theory needed to help learn modern songs and give exercises to improve playing. These theories can be applied to any style of music on any style of guitar or tuning. The goal is to make playing the guitar fun and something you love for years down the line.
My name is Chris and I have been playing guitar for over 20 years. Music is a love and passion and while I enjoy many instruments my first love is the guitar. My goal is to pass everything I have learned through the years on to someone else. There will be simple tricks you can do to impress people who do not play guitar to complex ideas that will make you the envy of your musical peers. With all that said I want you to have fun and just add an element to your love of guitar and music. So while there will be certain basics in theory I feel are a must to improve your play, my course will take you as simple or as complex as one would desire.
I teach you to be a musician, not just an instrumentalist. There is a huge difference. I give you material to learn while doing my best to make it fun as well. I teach you the basics and build on that foundation. You can learn the material as fast or as slow as you want. However, it is not a canned approach because every student is unique and your learning styles reflect that. My goal is your success, truly!
My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands/groups. They all had one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not enjoying learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!
Jerry is a wonderful instructor. I wasn’t sure how online lessons would go but they have been seamless and fun and my son is making progress with the bugle. I would highly recommend this format and this teacher. The convenience and quality of instruction are excellent. We are signing up for more lessons and may move on to another instrument once my son feels confident on the bugle.

"Drew is by far the best Music teacher out there. She is very professional. I wouldn't have went anywhere else to learn how to play guitar."
"I understand that my grandson Everett is enjoying hjis lessons and his parents really like Mathew ,they said he has a lot of patience and understanding of
"little " people and they appreciate that , Everette likes him a lot too!"
"Kirk is excellent...I can't emphasize that enough. My daughter is 11 and he is beyond patient with her. He teaches by guiding her and letting her find her
own answer. She really likes writing songs so he's supported that in his lessons by using what she comes up with during the week in between for the next lesson, weaving it into what he's teaching her for the day. I also really appreciate how he works on form with her, which is key to being a good guitarist and again it is through example, guiding her , and explaining things in ways that make sense to her. He has a very calm and relaxed demeanor. Also he's in a master's program for music, guitar concentration, so he really knows all aspects of it. I am taking classic guitar lessons once I can afford it. Kirk is one of the best teachers I've worked with and I recommend him for anyone. Thanks, Kirk!"
"A lovely teacher
Alex is an amazing teacher. He is very patient with my 8 year old son. He's always on time and works around my schedule. He has a great
passion for music and you can see that he loves to teach."
"Geoff takes the time to make sure his students are really learning how to develop good habits when playing guitar and takes care to spend as much time as
it takes to solidify different techniques. He cares that his students are actually learning and doesn't cut corners, making sure things are easy to understand. He's patient, friendly, and skillful, and each lesson is something to look forward to."
"Theresa had such patience with my 11yr old son. We will be continuing lessons. He enjoys learning to play the guitar. Awesome beginning experience!"
"Was first lesson and he made it fun and i progressed a lot! Can't wait till next one"
"I had my very first lesson today with Sal, and I’m excited about some very cute things he taught me in just a short period of time. He is very talented, a

Many dubbed 2014 "the year of the woman", and in 2015 women show no signs of slowing down. Whether you spent last year hooked on Taylor Swift's 1989, freaking out about St Vincent, buzzing in the Bey-hive, or feverishly anticipating Sleater-Kinney's reunion, women dominated much of our cultural conversation about music.
With International Women's Day coming up this weekend, it's a great time to appreciate the talents and ferocity of these amazing guitar-slinging women! Check out these aweso …
