Private Violin Teacher

Beginner & intermediate violin practices include the Suzuki methods, duets, theory, and an understanding of the violin as a whole. I will encourage students to eventually learn compositions of their choosing.

About Olivia

I love to create. The way I'm most comfortable creating is through writing; whether it's a song, a short story, a poem or a script. Writing has always been the bass line in my life; the heartbeat.

Music and film are both passions of mine. I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Songwriting and Music Therapy. I was pushed to my absolute limits lyrically and musically within these majors, and I am so grateful for it now that I'm on my own creative journey.

I have a great deal of experience, but I am also still learning. I think it is very important as a teacher to always be learning, especially through their students. Teaching these lessons is, of course, about progress and advancement - but also about enjoyment, confidence building and positive encouragement.

Private Violin Teacher

First lesson we will get acquainted with your goals and what you are looking for out of lessons. Then I will assign fun technique building exercises along with goal pieces that we will work on together. Expect to have fun and enjoy music!

About Daniel

I began playing the violin at age 7 and I have enjoyed every moment since! I switched to the viola at age 19 and pursued both a bachelor's and master's in Viola Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music. Music is always a journey and I have been lucky enough to perform in Germany, Denmark, Japan, China, and even in Carnegie Hall! I have been teaching for over 13 years and I have had students go on to play in Carnegie Hall, attend Interlochen Summer Arts Festival, and pursue degrees in music. There is so much joy in music and I try to always help students discover their own voice trough refining technique and constant shifts in perspective to solve problems and move forward. Music should always be fun and ultimately I want to give students the skills to teach themselves and to become their

own musical force! Discover your inner musical power, learn to trust your ear, and have fun getting lost in the music!

I specialize in, viola, violin, and viola d'amore.

My husband and I were extremely pleased with the progress our son Thomas made with Dan. Thomas started playing last year and was progressing faster than the rest of his third grade class which is why we were looking for a private teacher to help him along. Before taking lessons with Dan I had a hard time getting Thomas to practice. Thomas has begun practicing all on his own because he has been genuinely inspired. Dan is a true professional who always on time and in a good mood to teach. He was so patient with Thomas and developed practice techniques unique to Thomas's situation. Dan is more than just a violin teacher, he is dedicated to inspiring each student to love music. Thanks Dan!!!

I am a passionate and skilled violinist and student. I have been playing violin since the age of 7 and continue to study and play at University of Massachusetts Amherst. In the past, I have put together string quartets and have played in a variety of ensembles for different settings; musicals, formal concerts, weddings, etc.... I have 2 years of experience teaching middle school violinists in my hometown.
In terms of teaching approach, I recognize that each student is different from the next, and while I prefer to guide all students through a similar structure, I always make conscious and consistent efforts to evaluate each student's progression to determine what needs the most work.

Varun
"I had a great experience with David. He is really patient while also making you push your own limits. I learned a lot in the first class and I'm hooked.

He is very knowledgable about music and at times, I had to ask him to slow down and explain some of the terminology but at the same time it gave me the impetus to go and learn more. Loved the experience :)"

"My son, Donovan, studied violin with Ms. Nelson for four years at Alan’s Music in La Mesa, CA. He began at age four and I was a bit apprehensive about fi
nding a teacher who would be effective with a younger child. Ms. Nelson was the perfect fit. She selects music that is varied and interesting. She is flexible too. When my son showed an interest in learning Superman, she found the music and supported him. We love her patient, gentle, but firm approach. Ms. Nelson has high expectations and is very open-minded about what young students can learn. From the start, she incorporated teaching music notation & music theory at age-appropriate levels. She is extremely knowledgeable and shares her knowledge with students in an engaging and comprehensible manner. She instills a love of music in her students - what a gift! I can’t recommend Ms. Nelson’s music instruction enough.

-Gina Vattuone La Mesa, CA

Ms. Nelson is a very nice and funny person. She is a good violin teacher because she is encouraging and always plays the music before I play it to see if I like it.
