I'm a believer that almost anyone can learn to play music well, and guitar is no exception. It's something which seems difficult at first, but has a series of specific steps (like any instrument) which take the mystery out of it, and get you playing in no time! I love seeing students improve on this instrument and seeing how much fun they have once they begin to play songs they love.
About Colin
I've been playing trumpet nearly my entire life, and studied it in college. However, I am a multi-instrumentalist and currently teach trumpet, guitar, piano, and trombone. I specialize in classical style, but can also teach jazz theory, correct swing style, articulation, etc. I have

My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.
Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.
An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.
I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner guitar.

I want students to excel the fastest they can on guitar. I will develop plans and keep track of progress so that students and I can stay organized and make sure the learning is fluent. I will direct lessons based on what the student wants to learn most and what genres of music they are interested in. The basics I want students to learn from my lessons are basic chords, fretboard knowledge and music theory, finger-picking styles, pick and strumming techniques, left-hand techniques, and most importantly I want to teach students how to listen. I will train students ears through ear training exercises and songs. The better the student’s ears can get, the better the musician they can be. Besides just teaching songs, I want students to understand the theory, technique, and meaning behind those songs. I specialize in jazz but am able to teach other styles such as rock, blues, classical, and pop.
