I've been teaching violin for 11 years and my students have gone on to play with different ensembles. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play simple songs by reading and by ear and as time goes on you'll be able to play more complex repertoire. I specialize in classical, style but I can teach you different kinds of styles, typically use the Suzuki repertoire but I use a variety of method and books. I have the following tools available for your lessons: violin, computer program, sound system, Tuner and Metronome . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Folsom, Napa and Sacramento.
My professional performing experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002.
While in Colombia, I also performed with the Antioquia Symphonic Orchestra and the Antioquia Chamber Orchestra from 1991-1999.
I left my hometown of Medellin to come to the United States where I performed with the Texas Christi
an University Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. Returning to Medellin, I spent the next year with the Eafit Symphonic Orchestra.
Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master's Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.
In Sacramento, I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and with several other chamber groups.
At this time, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin. My students range in age from six to seventy years and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment at their own pace.
I incorporate several different teaching styles to meet each students' individual needs and abilities.
*** Specialties *** cello, violin Suzuki for kids and traditional classical style.
I took lessons from Maria for 6 years, starting the summer just before I entered high school. Initially I was embarrassed because I knew most kids learning an instrument had started years before me, and I hadn't had any experience with reading sheet music or anything like that.
But she never held any preconceived notions about where my ability *should* be, which helped me feel comfortable learning the cello for fun, which was why I was taking lessons. And Maria was always patient working with me on whatever little part of a piece I struggled with week after week until I got it. She let me self direct how I wanted to learn, so I didn't spend as much time memorizing music theory and was able to learn through playing, which worked well for me.
While taking lessons through high school and part of college, I had a lot of difficult classes and sometimes had to sacrifice my short-term cello progress to make time for them. I always felt bad when this happened, but Maria understood and once the air cleared I was always excited to catch up to where I wanted to be.
Cello was always something kind of meditative where I could make something beautiful by putting in time, and I don't think I would enjoy playing now if I hadn't had the warm guidance of such a great teacher on my journey through the music world.

We can work on songs that range from Bach to Ella Fitzgerald, Rolling Stones to Adele and Taylor Swift. Music is fun and rewarding. Have you been playing for a long time, or have you never picked up the instrument before? Whether you are a child or an adult, I have a style of teaching for you. I've been playing since I was a child and have a special place in my heart for the is instrument. I actually began learning from a fiddle player and trained classically later. If you want to learn how to succeed in playing this rewarding and satisfying style, this is the place for you. Are wondering why every time you hit a certain note, it squeaks, or crunches, or sounds glassy? Or maybe you can't quite read the notes. Perhaps you are no stranger to the instrument, but need improvement of musicianship, expression, etc. Let me help you master the skills you're trying to achieve. With my help, you can make breathtaking music!
I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played
in numerous pit orchestras for musicals. I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around. I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum. I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student. I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice and to be instrumental in your musical growth too; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!
*** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally. For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level. I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

Of course, every student must have a pencil and come ready to have fun learning! :)

I have been working with Kim for a few weeks and I have learned a tremendous amount and can hear the difference every week as I progress. I enjoy the process she applies to keep it positive and fun yet learn the proper fundamentals required to perform well. I actually tried a few vocal teachers and Kim with her wisdom and experience made it simple who to go with!!

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!
I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)
Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.

Please note: I only accept weekly lesson students. Also, due to my performances, I'm not always able to this calendar up to date....so when you request a lesson time, allow me to communicate with you, if we need to adjust it a bit. It almost always works out if you don't mind doing that.

Specialties I have much experience with various learning styles, and in fact, am featured in a documentary made of one of my autistic students.
Stephanie is one of the best teachers you can possibly find through Takelessons. We are extremely fortunate to have found her. She is a successful professional musician who is very strict yet with a kind heart and skills/experiences to steer students through their learning limitations. I had trouble to make my older daughter to practice piano for years, and almost came to the point to have her given up learning. Stephanie changed everything. Now my older daughter is getting not only serious with piano but practicing harder then ever. I am so happy to see the results. Highly recommend her!!!

Stephanie is s fantastic teacher! My daughter has thrived and grown like never before. When she wants to push her she expresses complete confidence. This builds my daughters confidence and she flourishes! She is in love again with piano! We drive an hour every week and it is worth it. If you are looking for an experienced teacher who loves to teach Stephanie is the one to go to.

Stephanie method of teaching is ideal for me as an older adult...very patient but she challenges me not to take shortcuts and to follow her guidance. Our sessions are very productive yet enjoyable.
I have been playing violin since the age of 6. One day I had to make the difficult decision choosing between violin and piano, because both instruments are very dear to me. I chose violin as my primary instrument for its lyrical qualities and closeness to human voice. At the age of 13 I won the Saint Petersburg Violin Competition and performed with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic. I am excited to share my love for this instrument with my students no matter what age they are. I see each person as an individual who has their own artistic voice and I will help you to further develop it. I have won Gartoff International Violin Competition, Freiburg International Violin Competition, Dalhousie Solo Competition, Halifax Rose Bowl, Roosevelt Violin Competition and most recently competed in Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China, where my quartet placed 3rd. Recently I performed the Brahms Violin Concerto in the Symphony Centre downtown Chicago with Roosevelt ...
Hello dear students! My name is Artem and I have been playing violin since I was 4 years old and am a freelance musician, composer and pedagogue. I am passionate about teaching because I believe education and willingness to learn is an extremely important factor for personal development and success. I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia and underwent intensive training in voice, violin, composition and piano. After winning the Frieburg Intenational Violin Competition in 2010, I was offered a full scholarship to study music at Dalhousie University at the age of sixteen. After moving to Canada I went through a 9-month intensive english learning program, so I know first hand how difficult it can be to learn a new language. This experience helped me understand the struggles that any ESL student goes through and discover new way
s to teach Russian and English to others. I am excited to get to know you and share my knowledge with you!
Not only is Artem a world class violinist but also a very nice person who will make you look forward to the next lesson.

He's a great instructor and he's very good with children.

After graduating high school in May 2012, I continued my passion with the violin by producing music with ...

Hands Down the best violin teacher in the Sacramento area! From the flexibility she has with time to the amazing way she teaches. I am a beginner who couldn’t even read music. I told her that was what I was most concerned about. I was able to learn not only to read music but also the background to the music I was learning. To me that was key to learning. Will definitely recommend to anyone that wants to learn the violin!!
January 12, 2019
I highly recommend Jaclyn. My son was struggling with his practices, she worked with him and gave him the confidence to succeed.
"Tracy is a patient violin tutor and is very knowledgeable on the subject. She taught my son the basic techniques he needs to prepare him for his summer yo
uth program. We will most likely contact her again in the near future for more lessons."
"Dan is very punctual and professional and friendly . We started playing violin for the first time this past month and he helped us prepare for our lessons
and also make sure we have the proper instrument that fits our daughter well . He has good communication is on time and takes his time explaining new techniques in his lesson . We hope to have a long term relationship to get to a level that we want to be at . He's very kind and honest and displays competency in his instrument of interest"
"Very good first lesson!"
"I have an extremely busy life and Elizabeth is very understanding and patient with me. I appreciate this very much and it helps me not feel intimidated, p
ressured, or give up on myself. She encourages me to find at least a few minutes everyday to practice and that the muscle memory will get better as I progress. I highly recommend Elizabeth for any age student."
"Zhana is a great teacher! She pushes you to work hard and focus, but she is also patient and realistic about how long it will take you to learn something
or fix a bad habit. I have been her student for almost six months, and the difference she has made is truly amazing."
"I loved it! We're already working on combinations of musical notations and arrangements of notes. It's what I really needed and wanted from a teacher.
I added another lesson weekly to help me accelerate my learning."
"Wasn't able to progress by myself after trying to learn through Youtube, I decided to look for a teacher to guide me. I used to have a teacher when I was
young and they were excellent performers, but not excellent teachers. Bill is both: He is fully invested in making lessons understandable and fun, without sacrificing rigor and technique."
Tablature is a form of musical notation that was invented to make reading music easier for fretted and string instruments like guitar, bass, and violin. The premise is operationally-based, meaning that rather than showing rhythm, duration, and pitch, violin tabs will show the player where and when to place their fingers on the instrument.
For an improvising musician, violin tabs allow you to improvise while staying within the chord structure of a song. Tablature-style notation is most commonly …
