Music has been my passion since I was 10 years old. I didn't have any real instruments at first, so, I built my own out of coffee cans, ice cream containers and of course: a rubber band shoebox guitar! It might sound funny, but, I believe these early days of trying to create music using my "homemade symphony," forced me to really get to the core of sound and expression without the pre-set curriculum of traditional music study. Early on, I learned a few fundamental concepts of music theory that would forever change how I learned, as well as how I taught music to others. I believe these concepts set a foundation that allowed me to understand music and grow much faster - including learning multiple instruments.

And yes, I eventually acquired a real guitar and went on to study music and computers at the University of California and I currently compose music for TV and film in my own studio. I have taught guitar, bass, piano, drums, theory, composition and recording production to ...

About Peter

I currently compose music for TV, film and other digital media in my own recording studio. Prior to that, I spent about 25 years playing guitar, piano, bass and drums in bands and as a studio musician. At school I studied classical music (theory and composition) as well as orchestration and compute

I have been under the instruction of Noah for a little over two months now and I really enjoy his teaching style. I am older and not a proficient reader of music so Noah has had to start with very basic skills for me. He has done a great job of making it understandable. I am learning to read music and to play the ukulele at the same time, and am enjoying the online lessons.

I love and encourage creativity in my students. I have studied music for over 15 years and am well-versed in theory, performance and songwriting. I craft my lessons around what the individual student wants, but one thing all my lessons have in common is that you will be able to learn a lot, and do so in a laid-back environment. If you've always looked at a guitar and imagined yourself writing your own riffs and songs, you've come to the right place! Message me to chat and see if I can be of service to you on your musical journey.

"I had several great lessons with Nils. He helped me break through a plateau I was on in terms of modal soloing and also with recognizing chord shapes and how the lie underneath scale structures. He was responsive, knowledgeable and quick to grasp what I, as an already experienced player, needed to improve. Highly recommended!"

"After the initial panic of trying to learn something at such a ripe old age I was reassured by other reviews that David would be the best bet. They were correct and I recommend him to any age group. After a welcome at the front door assuring me that I was at the right location, he excels in making you feel comfortable. He listens to questions and told me no question was stupid. Takes everything at your speed and recaps from the week before. Is thorough and stops you when finger placement is not correct so you don't begin bad habits. Looks up and acquaints himself with the songs that you want to learn and will stop covering a certain area if you do not want to learn it. He sends you home with just the right amount of practice work and after 3 lessons I feel like I'm getting all of what he's teaching and am improving and adding on more lessons. So happy that I chose David."

20 Different Types of Guitars & The Legends Who Played Them [Infographic]

While certain types of guitars are standard in modern culture, the instrument has a wide variety of expressions that is nearly impossible to tame. From the ancient Greek kithara to the guitar-like lute from pre-modern Spain, the many different types of guitars vary just as much as the people who play them. Some types of acoustic and electric guitars are more common than others. Steel string dreadnought acoustics and Stratocaster-style electrics are likely to be the first thing that pops i …
