Devin is remarkably patient with our awkward, shy son, who he's been teaching for around 5 years. He keeps lessons fun and lets our son lead with his music interests. Devin is always on time, communicative, and professional. Our son (who is easily distracted) says the time flies by!

Devin is an excellent and knowledgeable teacher! He taught me the basics of Ableton and the details of music production, recording audio/midi tracks, sound libraries, effects, etc. He guided me through the songwriting process, and made this complex software easier to navigate through and understand. I highly recommend Devin for anyone interested in enhancing their skills in music production. Thank you Devin for all your help!

Identifying innovative approaches to music education is a foundation for my teaching philosophy. I believe that fresh perspectives and new techniques are fundamental for successful learning. As a composer, I recently had works performed by new music ensembles including loadbang, Invoke, and Hub New Music, among others. As a composition teacher, I am interested in working with high school and undergraduate degree levels, focusing on classical, contemporary, pop, rock, and songwriting. Through my teaching, I emphasize building strong compositional techniques and production skills to ensure personal growth and passion for the art.

Over this past year, remote teaching has become commonplace. I am very familiar with the best practices for online learning including Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, and LiveStorm. In addition, I have experience designing curricula and educational webinars, while publishing articles related to the industry for music blogs. I am currently on faculty as an adjunct ...

Leanna is incredible. She's kind and patient and extremely easy to work with, which is rare for someone with such deep experience in a field. One thing that continued to stand out and amaze me is her unbelievable ear. Even in remote sessions via zoom, she could tell immediately if one note in a chord or progression was off, and helped me fix it. I've heard the same from other students of hers.

If you're a serious student, considering music as a career, or in any competitive sense, Leanna is an irreplaceable ally with the skill to push you further than you may have thought possible. Absolutely recommend.
Zachary
As a beginner, taking lessons with Leanna has offered a structured approach to learning the fundamentals of piano, along with developing good technique, which has made the process less daunting. After only a couple of lessons, I feel more confident not only in my playing, but also in understanding elements of music theory (like reading sheet music) that I expected to be more difficult to grasp.
Sonya T.
Excellent goal-oriented teacher! Leanna is able to provide effective feedback and instruction to an advanced student like myself. I was impressed with the detailed coaching provided in the online environment.

"The lessons (piano & music theory) I learned from Buzz Amato was the sole reason I got signed to a label & was able to produce 2 Billboard charted singles (which he co-produced with me). I now tour the world djing and produce with talented artists that come to me based off my musical knowledge, that I received from Buzz. I can honestly say NONE of this would happen without the musical instruction of Buzz. Thank you Buzz!"

"Well, I can say that when we met 24 years ago, I've never seen anyone playing the bass guitar as good as he did, I still remember him playing that beautiful six string bass guitar along with a drummer... I was just trying to catch up with those two ... it was just rehearsal and they didn't need a me as keyboard player , just the slap bass solo was enough for me to step down and watch, I learned a lot just by listening to him. He was a very patient teacher and his musical knowledge was amazing,"

"Tomoko is a fantastic tutor. I had a lot of trouble understanding music theory because it had been a topic I hadn't seen before. She was able to explain things to me in a very clear and easy way. She was also able to help me with ear training lessons which was also surprisingly easy, considering it was a topic I felt I had a lot of trouble with at the time. She's one of the best, no doubt.

Also, if you happen to get piano lessons from her, I'm sure you'll get more than your money's worth. She's an amazing jazz, classical, and overall pianist."

"Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!"

Music Student Face-Off: Memorizers vs. Readers | Which is Better?

As you learn songs and work through your music books, do you memorize the notes? Or do you read along every time you play? In this post, music teacher Vanessa G. discusses the pros and cons to the approaches...   Imagine your teacher gives you a piece of music to study. What's your process? Do you listen to a recording, memorizing the melody and the stylistic aspects before you begin, and then as you play? Or would you sit down and sight read the notes, and perfect it from that star …

Why You Should Learn (At Least a Little) Music Theory

One of the most common weaknesses for amateur musicians is a lack of music theory knowledge. Many people assume that learning theory is difficult (it isn’t) that it has no practical purpose (it does), or even that it will actively make them worse at making music (quite the opposite). I’m here to convince you that learning a little about how music works is one of the most important skills you can develop and should absolutely be part of your daily practice routine. Here are five reasons w …
