Private Violin Teacher

I have been playing violin since kindergarten, and I have experiences in teaching beginner students at SUNY Albany campus and I absolutely loved it! Music Performance was one of my majors of my undergraduate degrees, and I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to perform a solo piece, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in my senior year. I am currently enrolled in a Master's program for Intercultural Communication & English language education. Teaching has been one of my long-lasting passions and I am more than happy to work with various levels of violin learners. Hope to hear from you soon!!

About Hikaru

はじめまして & thank you for taking a moment to check out my profile! I'm originally from Tokyo Japan, and I moved to NY with my family during high school. I've completed Master's degrees in Language Education & Communication, and Bachelor's Degrees in Music Performance and Political Science. I enjoyed organizing and running language study groups in college, and experienced working as a Japanese TA for several semesters. I LOVE to teach in general, whether it's music or languages, and I personalize most of my teaching materials for individual student. Let me know what YOUR unique short/long-term goals are, along with interest topics, and we'll work it out! Thanks again, and I'm excited to hear from you!

Hikaru is down to earth, conversational and a great teacher. I have already learned so much from her. I can't say enough good things about her. If you make time to study on your own, in conjunction with her lessons you'll be picking up the language in no time at all!

Private Violin Teacher

I have been teaching violin for six years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements or Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.

Tools for lessons:

Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

About Phoebe

Hello! I am a classically trained violinist and violist. I have been playing violin for 15 years and teaching for 7. I got my Bachelor's degree from the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut in 2017. Since then, I have performed at Woolsey Hall, Ivoryton Playhouse, Playhouse on Park, and the Bushnell Performing Arts Center.

Teaching has become one of my greatest passions. My goal for each student is to inspire their passion for music and to give them a greater appreciation for the arts. I am just as comfortable with teaching someone who has been playing for years as I am teaching a beginner. In our lessons I hope you feel comfortable asking questions and exploring your own voice as an artist. Feel free to reach out and ask me anything, I would love to hear from you!

Miss Phoebe is an excellent, patient instructor for my two young violinists! She is prompt, and has lots of tools in her tool kit to bring about proper posture, tone, sound. She exhibits a very warm kind discipline that makes clear her expectations without being mean about it at all. I think my kids have made significant progress under her tutelage and I would definitely recommend her for any skill level!

I'm an adult learner who went through Suzuki book 2 and a few other pieces with Phoebe as my instructor. I spent a month prior with a "bad experience" and hadn't taken lessons in probably 10 years before that.

Working with Phoebe was GREAT. She was very easy to work with and really saw to improving my skills. She was encouraging and very positive. When I had troubles with parts (which was often), she would always have multiple suggestions as to how to practice them to work through the difficulties. She also gave me nudges along when I didn't think I could do certain things too. All in all, I had a great experience working with Phoebe and would have loved to continue to work with her if she was still in my local area.

If you're wondering why not 5 stars, that's more from my lack of experience than any issue with her. The guide says 5 stars is the "best teacher ever". She probably was the best teacher ever for me, but I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Is she a good fit for an advanced student, I'm going to guess that, yes, she is, but I don't know that info personally so I went with 4.

Private Violin Teacher

I have been teaching out of my home and in student’s homes for about 10 years now, using the Suzuki method and other supplemental materials. I love working with all ages and all skill levels! My lessons are characterized by a positive, cheerful environment, encouragement to do your best, and a willingness to adjust to your unique learning style, whether it be visual, kinesthetic, or audial. My goal as a teacher is to strive to bring out the best in my students, helping them achieve their own goals by nurturing their personal discipline, and a positive attitude.

About Candace

Hello!
I started private violin lessons myself when I was nine, after begging my parents for two years to let me try. They finally caved, and I was in love!
I learned through the Suzuki Method until completion when I was 14, then I moved on to more difficult repertoire. I took lessons all through high school and eventually graduated from college with a Bachelor's of Music degree in violin performance.
My teaching philosophy has always been that anyone, child or adult, can learn to play an instrument. It isn't so much talent as it is hard work! Throughout the years, I've grown to realize that not everyone learns the same way, and so I have continuously tailored my teaching approach to each individual student and I challenge them based on what their goals are.
My favorite part about teaching is watching a student's face light up when they'v

e been struggling through something and it suddenly clicks. It's the most beautiful thing, and so satisfying! When a student of mine realizes that they can make music, and that their hard work has paid off to make good music, that's when the magic happens, and they unlock so much potential.
This inspires me to keep doing what I love, and I hope to share it with as many people as possible!

Private Violin Teacher

I offer individual lessons for regional Greek violin technique. The lessons are geared for intermediate to advanced violin students, but experience with Greek music is not required.

Violin is the primary melodic instrument of Greek music, so there are many different regional styles and techniques. The objective of these lessons is to learn basic violin techniques from distinct regions across Greece. The lessons focus on rhythm/bowing and ornamentation, which are taught through traditional tunes, and include a basic introduction to maqam and moria.

About Aya

Authentic, tasteful, and experienced, Aya Safiya is an accomplished violinist who has performed at renowned venues such as the Great American Music Hall, as well as festivals in the US and in Greece. Aya began studying both Suzuki classical and traditional Greek violin when she was 7. She has made numerous trips to Greece to study with master violinists such as Nicos Chatzopoulos and Nikos Oikonomidhis. At age 15 She started teaching individual lessons and group workshops at world music camps in California, and in more recent years crafted her "regional Greek violin technique" workshop which she conducted at the Freight & Salvage Coffee House in Berkeley in 2017. She continues to hold occasional workshops and regularly teaches private lessons.

Each lesson is tailored to the individual's unique technical needs and musical goals. I do not believe in any "one size fits all" approach, and instead draw inspiration from several pedagogues and methods to find the best fit for each student. While technique is a major emphasis, lessons are always fun and energetic. I have taught beginners through undergraduate music majors. While some of my students go on to major in music and study at major conservatories, others simply take lessons just for fun - to have a creative outlet, participate in orchestra, or simply enjoy music for its own sake. I enjoy teaching everyone, at every age and stage, no matter the reason!

About Nicole

I have been teaching privately for more than 15 years. In that time, I've taught at arts high schools, conservatories, colleges/universities, at music stores, and out of my home. I am active as a performer, and believe that it is critical for teachers to stay relevant in the field. I have performed all over the US, South America, Europe, and Asia in both chamber and solo recitals; have been a member or sub with professional symphonies and opera companies around the country; and regularly appear with famous artists from other genres. Recent highlights include Weird Al Yankovic, Henry Winkler, Seal, Styx, Johnny Mathis, and several of the Video Games Live traveling shows.
My real passion, however, is teaching! I currently teach 40 students in Frisco ISD, and several more at my home in Roanoke. Prior to moving to Texas, I ran the String

Project at Virginia Tech, where I had the sincere pleasure of shaping an engaging learning environment for 200 K-12 string players! I also founded the Radford Youth Strings, so that kids who were not able to travel for lessons still had the opportunity to participate in music.
I value the genuine friendships that I have built with my students and their families, and hope to add you to our community!

Nicole was a Godsend for my adolescent daughter when she started taking lessons with her at age 12. She had had a bad experience with a prior teacher and was losing her motivation to play and practice. Nicole was extremely kind, patient and encouraging yet held my daughter to very high standards. Due to her instruction, my daughter was able to play in some elite pre-professional chamber groups and recently was a prize winner at a Concerto competition. Nicole always had my daughter’s best interests at heart and went above and beyond to provide opportunities for her to excell at the instrument and feel confident about herself and her playing. I highly recommend Nicole for any level of player!

10 Wacky Ways to Improve Your Posture for Better Violin Playing

By Brooke Neuman

Proper posture is essential for good violin playing. Standing or sitting up straight not only improves tone production and control, but it also prevents injury and discomfort. Many violin players, however, struggle with their posture, which can lead to poor technique and cause both short and long term injuries. Not to mention you'll end up looking like Quasimodo. Poor posture can be a result of many things, such as sitting or standing without interruption for long periods of time, lack …
