Young multilingual (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin) piano and violin teacher who combines the formal traditional Eastern style of teaching, and the fun approach of Western style of teaching into his music lessons.

Fun lessons but also challenging
- I believes that fun lessons are easy to gain young student interest, but it often lack to give them motivation. In the lessons, I often challenge my students, let them be self-motivated and become a better musician.

Techniques
- I focus lessons on teaching proper techniques with their instruments. With my experiences in taking lessons from American, Chinese, and Russian teachers, I learnt a great spectrum of techniques and I would like to teach my students what I had learn.

Learning pieces and other related topics
- Playing pieces and songs is only a small part of learning to play an instrument. In our lessons, we would also cover proper music theory, and ear-training.

I have been teaching students from pre-k to retirement age. Early ...

Very clear explanations, and I left the first lesson with good goals and a handful of things to practice. Having the lesson online worked out very well and didn't take away from the experience or efficient use of time at all.

I am an adult beginner in my 30's and was a little nervous about starting my lessons. However, I have to say, great lesson! He really took the time to listen to what I wanted to work on and make recommendations. Then he was able to quickly spot areas for improvement and give corrections that were very relatable and easy to understand. I can't wait to keep working with Daniel.

Kendra was so helpful and encouraging to our son during his first lesson, while also remaining firm in the techniques she was asking him to practice! She asked throughout the lesson if he had questions or if she needed to clarify anything, which we appreciate because he doesn't always admit if he doesn't understand.

I wrote a review when my daughter was a beginner, as she started to learn viola at her middle school. 4 years later, after 1 all-state, 2 district honors, and 1 London performances - all thanks to Kendra - my daughter continues to learn under Kendra's encouraging, precise instructions. Thank you Kendra!!!!
Angelique M.
I studied viola from 4th grade through college and have had many different teachers. I took a very long break from studying because it was getting to be too much like work and no fun.
Returning as an adult student was a tough decision for me, but Kendra has made it fun again! We've worked through some of my old bad habits that none of my previous teachers addressed and I can play without left hand pain for the first time in my life. It's amazing!

Kendra is patient and encouraging and has really helped me rediscover my joy and love of playing the viola. I can't recommend her enough!

I believe that learning to play music is not just to attain mastery or even to become a professional in the craft. Instead, playing music can be a journey in learning to express emotion, experience beauty, and cultivate virtue, diligence and character. And these things, once cultivated, can’t help but take root and grow – dancing in and out of the notes they play and spilling into all areas of their lives.

I believe that teaching is not just about instruction, but about mentorship. Not just transferring information, but building relationship. Together as parent and teacher we will partner to instill passion and joy for learning within your child.

About Joy

"My son has been taking violin lessons with Dongbin for almost 3 years since he started playing at age 5. Dongbin has been a great teacher, and my son enjoys learning from him. His lessons include not only violin playing, but also clapping rhythms, singing notes, and other exercises that have been effective ways of learning for my son, while keeping him engaged throughout the lesson. Dongbin recognizes my son’s strengths in playing violin, but also identifies the skills and techniques that he should focus on to become a better player and to build a strong foundation as he progresses. He also gives suggestions to help sharpen those skills while practicing at home. We have been very pleased with our experience with Dongbin as our son’s violin teacher."
