I am a college graduate and lifetime learner of musical artistry having 4 years practical piano teaching experience after 25 years of employment at a local higher education institution. I can engage the beginner in such a way that they will be motivated to continue into advanced and a professional level. I started my own music education at the age of 5 and have loved music ever since. My music career began in 3rd grade when I performed in a musical play and participated in vocal choral groups. I continued to improve in piano and vocal skill and traveled extensively with a national organization and a college representative team. My travels took me to Europe where I had the privilege to perform in places such as Notre Dam, palace of Versailles, the Basilica in Rome and other places. I teach any style of music from classical to gospel. I
have a strong classical background so I enjoy teaching all my students, even as young as 4 to learn about and play classical pieces (e.g. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart). Since my vocal involvement has allowed me to participate in school, church and community music groups and singing solo, I have a strong background in pianist accompaniment which is a unique skill that every piano musician should master. This creates a well rounded approach so that the pianist can participate and showcase their talent in various ways. I like to teach students to play beyond what is in the written page, and to develop a musical ear through improvisation and memorization. My 4 yr. old has started with teacher Joni and she LOVES her classes! Teacher Joni is very sweet and gentle and even though the classes seem short, it's perfect for a 4 yr. old and she actually learns a ton!

Ms. Joni started teaching my son piano lessons in Sep 2015. My son was 5 when he started attending her classes. It is amazing how much he has progressed in 9 months. He is able to read notes and can play with both hands. The one thing I have noticed about her way of teaching is that, she does not give up. She always tries to find a new ways to help kids learn when they are struggling. She adapts to kids ways of learning and doing things, and makes changes to help learn easily. That, I believe, is one of the reasons her classes are so effective and kids do not feel intimidated. I would highly recommend her.

I have been teaching French Horn, piano and composition privately for about nine years, mainly in Snohomish and King counties. I have also coached horn players in local school bands during this time, as well as helping students with learning disabilities. There are many difficulties that students encounter when studying music, and I want to help you turn weaknesses into strengths, and help you find out where your greatest strengths (and interests) lie in music. I'll work with you to help you understand your own musical desires and goals, so that you can get the most out of your lessons. I am committed to understanding each of my students, and to sharing my love of music with each one of them. I teach French Horn, piano, music theory and composition as well as songwriting. I was eight years old when I started taking piano lessons in Tacoma, WA. When I was 12, I discovered that I had perfect pitch while playing church hymns with my dad. This ability has served me well on a number of occasions. I discontinued formal piano lessons when I started college, but I continued to play piano on a nearly daily basis from that point on, keeping my technical skills at a very advanced level. I played trumpet in school bands starting in the 5th grade, and switched to French Horn in the 8th grade. The appeal of the horn may have had something to do with its rich, warm sound, its intricacy and complexity, and the demands that it placed on me to play with a high degree of pitch accuracy. I loved the challenge of playing accurately on the horn then, and I still do. As a horn student, I have studied with Jacqueline Shannon, Kathy Farner, Kathy Colton, Lawrence Lowe, Elizabeth Ward, Jeff Snedeker, Rodger Burnett and Stacie Eliason. As a horn performer, I have played with community and regional professional orchestras in the Seattle area, Central Washington, Olympia, in the Tacoma Youth Symphony, and in numerous ensembles in college.

I have studied music at Tacoma Community College, Brigham Young University and Central Washington University. I received Bachelor of Arts in Music at Central Washington University. I plan on attending graduate school in the future, focusing on music composition and film composition, as well as French Horn and piano performance.

As a music composer, I have written works for many different ensembles, choral works, solo piano pieces, and works for solo instruments. I am drawn to rich harmonies and beautiful melodies, as well as interesting timbres and musical variety, in my own music and that of the music I listen to. I am easily able to visualize music in color, and I have a thorough understanding of how the elements of music combine together to affect emotions in listeners. This is one of the reasons that I am currently pursuing film and media composition.

As a student, teacher, performer and music composer, I know that there are countless musical topics that students are curious about. I feel that students should feel free to ask any question in the field of music, even if it may seem like a "dumb" question. I value the sincerity and passion for good music that so many students have. I will help you acquire the knowledge and skills that you need, so that you can see more clearly your own musical goals. Previous and current students I have, each have made improvements in their own playing and knowledge of music, some of whom have made vast improvements in their playing and knowledge of music.

As I have taught music privately for a little while now, and can reasonably compare how I teach with other instructors that I know well, I can say with certainty that there are at least a few areas of my teaching that are somewhat unique and highly beneficial for certain students, if not most students. I value ear training and using flashcards with beginner students quite a bit, and am fond of teaching not only the "nuts and bolts" of music, but also, how music "works", such that a student of mine can write their own music if they have the desire to do so. I also try to assign a wide variety of music for each student (which differs according to each student's musical interests, abilities, and areas of their playing that need to be improved), especially as they improve and approach the intermediate levels of playing. There are many reasons I do this, but for the student, it is very important that they do not feel particularly "bored" with the music they are playing. I also have found that students who have a more sensitive nature tend to be more comfortable with the way I teach, as I reserve higher, stricter expectations for more advanced, older students. I also try to always be as patient, kind, and considerate with every student as I can be. Lastly, I highly encourage questions and feedback at any time during a lesson, and I try to create an atmosphere where the student feels comfortable to do so.

I accept students from five years old on up, but I prefer horn students to be at least ten years old before starting lessons, unless they have noticeably greater abilities to focus for a certain period of time than other children their age.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have always wanted people I interact with to be, as a general rule, comfortable and relaxed in any setting. This certainly applies to the students I teach. However, students can expect that musical improvement will only occur through daily practice and constant effort. That being said, I am more interested in helping students overcome any difficulties in this area through reviewing their own practice habits and motivations, rather than using harsh discipline. It is crucial that students see the connection between their own practicing and musical improvement. Once this occurs, they can take more responsibility for their own progress with that added awareness.

The material chosen for each student will vary considerably, depending on their current knowledge, experience and ability level, innate abilities, musical tastes and priorities. The progress that is made will, to a large extent, be determined by the student's practice habits and natural ability. However, over the course of a few months or so, students should see noticeable improvement in their own musical abilities, if they practice and pay attention during lessons.

-French Horn: pencil, mute, tuner/metronome, maintenance/cleaning supplies, some books depending on if it is a first lesson, etc. I bring my own horn, and expect the student to have their horn. I also expect them to have a music journal to use as a reference for practicing and keeping track of their progress. Occasionally, I will employ a recording device for the purpose of assessing personal teaching effectiveness, or for the student to evaluate their progress/record their practicing.

Regarding method of instruction/teaching style, I am student oriented, and tend to adapt to each student's personality and learning style. I tend to teach more in the classical genres, with some pop/film music thrown in for variety (from time to time). I prefer using the Bastian, Alfred, and/or John Thompson piano methods, and Pottag-Hovey, Maxime-Alphonse books, etc. for French Horn.

Ben is great if you want your child to love piano. He is a fun teacher and was very patient with my son, who was a bit turned off from music due to prior experiences. He actually wrote songs for my son to play since he needed more time at the beginner level. He was great when my son was nervous at recitals and festivals and had strategies to help him deal with nerves.

About Makala
I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliche© to say so, but it's true! :)

For me, having parents of different ethnicity and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon box of rhythms and sounds captivated and affected me so much that it is the key experience that I draw from in making my own music today.

I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska (a small town in the center of the state) so my only option for entertainment and fun was getting involved in the arts! I started performing at a very young age as both a dancer and a musician. I studied classical ballet, modern dance, hip hop and street dance, and world dance traditions throughout my formative years, which helped me to gain rhythmical fluency. I started my
formal music training when I began to play the cello. From then on, I was hooked on the sound and I immersed myself in music as much as I could; performing, competing, working in as many musical groups and productions as possible (as both a vocalist and cellist), and even teaching.

I moved to Seattle in 2003 to study opera at Cornish College of the arts, only to later change my major to Jazz, and then again to Latin music studies. Since graduating from Cornish in 2007, with my Bachelor of Music degree, I have been actively and diligently working in the local music scene; performing and recording with artists and groups of many different styles. Everything from various Latin genres, to Rock, to R&B/Soul, to Hip Hop, and Jazz. Through my music, I aim to reach out to people of all cultures. I also aim to teach my own students with the hope that they too can discover the same continuous love of music that I have grown to feel (and still am growing to feel) over the years. :)

As far as voice goes, I teach all genres and styles but I personally specialize in the Latin genres. I teach all aspects of the music; rhythm, harmony, theory. I even teach performance; how to work with a band in real-time communication, song communication (or story telling as I like to call it), and developing ones own personal style. I believe that there is much more to singing than just vocal technique alone, so I believe in teaching musical fundamentals and functions so that my students will not only be considered vocalists, but competent musicians.

Makala hit it off with our third-grader right off the bat, and she was a great sport about meeting the whole family at the first lesson. She put Josh at ease, evaluated what he already knew without making him uncomfortable, and got right to work improving his fundamentals in a way that seemed to get him really motivated. Makala is very seasoned at teaching music. I love that fact that she's patient but at the same time persistent. My daughter has grown tremendously from being under Makala's structured music teachings. Makala is very versatile and has a really open of mind with music. Hello! My name is Serena!

Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory, conducting, movement training, ballet, Alexander Technique, acting, yoga, stage craft, improvisation, other languages, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, voice science and anatomy, and vocal pedagogy. I have completed my Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of the legendary Carol Vaness. I have also studied with acclaimed teachers and coaches around the world including Dr. Kari Ragan and Maestro Dean Williamson.

onderfully packed with performance for Seattle Opera. I just closed out a 78 performance run of CINDERELLA IN SPAIN where I sang the role of CINDERELLA and was even on the poster! I also performed the roles for the Seattle Opera preview performances of GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL, VIOLETTA in LA TRAVIATA, KATYA in KATYA KABANOVA, and QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in MAGIC FLUTE. I made my Seattle Opera debut singing ALITSA and RACCOON in their touring production of "OUR EARTH", as well as performing on the mainstage in many productions. My upcoming performances include singing in the Seattle Opera kick off to the season SUMMERFEST in July; and OLYMPIA in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Pacific Northwest Opera. My other roles include ALKANDRE in PENELOPE with Vespertine Opera in Seattle, WA; FRASQUITA in CARMEN with OperaBend in Bend, Oregon and Pacific Northwest Opera; and SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Seattle Opera Guild. I also made my international debut in December 2014 singing GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL with Opera Mariposa in Vancouver, BC. I have also been the featured soloist as "Christine" in Ten Grand's Phantom of the Opera at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA, and many lead roles in both opera and musical theatre: such as Semele (Semele), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Countess Ceprano and Gilda (Rigoletto), Blondchen (Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail), Maria (West Side Story), La Fee (Cendrillon), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Rosina (Barber of Seville), and more! I have also been part of jazz ensembles, and won the Battle of the Bands at Indiana University with a rock group! *** Lesson Details ***
My studio provides musical knowledge through private lessons including healthy vocal technique, basic understanding of music theory, and basic piano skills. I encourage a fun and focused environment. Come ready to learn, and let's make music!

A typical lesson will include vocalises that detail proper technique, some ear training work, some music theory training, and will be followed by repertoire. During this time, students will learn how to produce clear and authentic diction (English and other languages), breath management, phrase shaping, smooth transitions between higher and lower pitches, stylistic ornamentation, as well as dramatic involvement of the piece.

Students will learn the importance of the foundations of breath support, and how to create a healthy sound for any genre while keeping the unique qualities of their own voice-- no cookie-cutter singers here! Students will also learn how to read music, practice effectively, perform authentically, and take care of their delicate instrument for a lifetime of singing!

While Skype is a marvelous tool that has revolutionized the world of teaching, nothing can replicate natural acoustics. In-studio lessons are suggested for a clearer and more personable lesson.

STUDIO ABSENCE and CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Regularly scheduled and attended lessons are the best way to see positive changes in your voice! The smooth running of the Studio Schedule helps make that happen. Therefore, missing lessons is discouraged and make up lessons/cancellations are not given in the Studio unless:
- I have had a performance or rehearsal that conflicts with our lesson time and cannot have the lesson as scheduled. If this occurs, I will inform you of the event as soon as possible and give you the option of a make up lesson or cancelling the lesson.
- Notices of foreseen cancellations (family vacations, religious holidays, school functions, special occasions etc.) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given before the first lesson of the month.
- Of course, life can throw us for a loop! Illness, emergencies, and unforeseen events may possibly be given make ups or cancellations and will be determined at the Studio's discretion. (In the matter of illness: standard procedure is that if the student can attend work/school, they should come to their lesson. A cold can easily be worked around. If the voice is affected (for singing students), Studio time can still be used to work on ear training, music theory, music history, etc.)

All other absences will result in the lesson being marked as "missed". A hard copy of the Studio Policies and further details will be given to the student at the first lesson. Please feel free to ask any questions or clarifications.

The studio lessons take place in a designated area of my home. The room includes seating for parents to observe lessons as well as a weighted keyboard (88 keys), music stand, desk, and materials. No pets. Lots of street parking is available. Shopping and coffee/food located within walking distance.

I teach an in-depth classical study of scales and chord changes to all of my students in order to build a strong musical foundation. She interned at the 5th Avenue Theatre in downtown Seattle. She was recently seen performing guitar along with one of her students in Cotton Patch Gospel. You may have also seen her as an accompanist and actor in It's A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play, at Warm Beach Camp's dinner theater, 2014. About Abby
My name is Abby, and I've been playing guitar for about 15 years now. I graduated from Musician's Institute in 2007, and since then, I have had a great deal of experience teaching guitar to kids and adults, both individually and in groups.

I've spent three summers in a row teaching at Camp Jam and Day Jams, and I had the pleasure of being the Camp Jam kids director of the Orange County location in 2008. They were both great experiences . I have spent he last couple summers teaching School of Rock summer camps which was also a really fun time.

I love helping students find their passion for music and the creative process. I have been teaching at my current music school for about two years, and privately for about 6 years.

I have studied and taught many different styles of guitar, as well as note reading and theory. You could
say I'm a rock player at heart, but I love all styles.

Two years of college level music theory under my belt, and applied in studies on the guitar and composition. I'm not just a theory nerd, I'm also pretty darn good at explaining it, and more importantly, why it helps.

About Ian
Ian has graduated with an associates of music, along with studying with a handful of Seattle's finest instructors for Jazz guitar. In addition to studying flamenco guitar in Barcelona with the world-renowned Pedro J. Gonzales, Ian is also is a practiced percussion and drums instructor, and trained vocalist. He regularly plays in clubs around Seattle, is frequently employed by local musical theater orchestras, and already teaches a vibrant studio in Northeast Seattle.

I have a six year background of teaching music, which overlaps with a six year background of working at and managing a K-5 after school/summer daycare, so I can especially excel at getting the best out of young students, but love to teach all ages.

Depending on your age, experience and musical aspirations, lessons will be approached from va
rious angles. I have taught seven-year old girls to strum and sing Taylor Swift songs just as much as I have taught aspiring young jazz players their beginning standards and Jazz theory. I try to work music theory in to my lessons, and always assure that my young students have proper music reading skills. Ultimately my goal as a teacher is to have fun connecting and playing the music that my students are passionate about, while simultaneously attempting to introduce them to new concepts and music.

I've been teaching music theory for the past 5 years and pride myself on making difficult concepts easy to understand and individualizing lesson plans for each students needs. I also love working with students to make music not only applicable in theory but also in practice.

About Cameron
Cameron began playing guitar at the age of 14, as a kid who found great Inspiration in classic rock music, idolizing such groups as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, and many more. This was only the beginning of a life long intimate relationship with music and guitar playing. Since his first introduction to the guitar he quickly grew, establishing a love for blues and all of its incarnations, from Chicago Blues to the varying acoustic and electric styles found in New Orleans, Mississippi, and South Carolina among other places.
Through high school Cameron played in rock and blues bands writing original music and getting his first real experiences as a composer and a bandleader. High School was also the place where Cameron discovered his interest in Jazz music as he began playing guitar in the school's Jazz band. Following hi
gh school Cameron began playing more jazz music as he attended Bellevue College studying theory and composition with Dr. Brian Cobb and guitar performance with Mark Hillard Wilson. After this he soon met renowned Jazz Guitarist Chris Spencer, with whom he studied with for years to follow.
Cameron eventually found himself at Cornish College of the Arts where he received a Bachelors degree in Music Composition. While at Cornish he had the opportunity to play guitar and compose for Jazz Orchestras, Latin Jazz ensembles, and Modern Jazz groups while playing under the direction of internationally know musicians such as Wayne Horvitz, Tom Varner, Jovino Santos Neto and Chuck Deardorf.
In the realm of composition Cameron studied privately with composers Jarrad Powell and Tom Baker, with a deep focus in contemporary classical music. He is now the composer for the quickly rising interdisciplinary arts group the Pendleton House.
Currently Cameron spends his time working as a guitar player in Seattle while also writing chamber music for various ensembles and art groups. He performs on a regular basis with a variety of groups in the Seattle area including the Seattle based jazz trio Honeysuckle Rye, folk and bluegrass group Modern Bygones, as well as the orchestral pop band Sebastian and the Deep Blue.

*** Lesson Details ***
In the world of music education it is important to recognize that everyone learns differently and there is no universally prescribed teaching method that works for all students. Everyone must find how he or she learns best. As a teacher I acknowledge this and incorporate it into my method of instruction. Anyone can find success as a proficient instrumentalist if they are able to learn on there own terms and find what they are doing enjoyable.
Lessons will start with an assessment of what the student wants to learn and what their goals are. From there, we will determine the proper approach to meet those goals while keeping things fun and interesting. Once a particular skill level and interest are established I will develop an individualized lesson plan for the student to fit their wants and needs. The goal with beginning students is to get them up and running right away with chords and melodies, learning the fundamentals while being able to play their favorite songs. For all students I like to extensively focus on knowledge of the fret board and the many possible approaches to mastering it, as well as looking at creative practice methods and daily routines. A musician’s method of practicing can greatly determine their rate of improvement. For more intermediate and advanced students the general focus will shift to topics such as ear training, rhythm, music theory and music notation (if desired) and, their application to the guitar.
For students interested in composition, we will focus more on analysis and the application of theory. We will look at songs or pieces that are of interest to the student and take them apart to figure out what makes them great. We will also look at many different kinds of music and their construction. A large part of music composition in the 21st century is the integration of electronic and computer music. For students looking for an introduction into pre-recorded and live electronic music with or without the use of guitar or other instruments, this is strength of mine that I love to teach.

Cameron was straight up awesome!! He is extremely talented and a great instructor!!! I have particular goals I want to achieve, and with Cameron, I know I will reach them. Cameron listens, understands and creates a lesson geared just for you! I am beyond excited for my next lesson and can't recommend high enough!!

I really enjoyed my first lesson with Cameron. His studio is great and he loves music. I learned some basic musical concepts and got to play a song at my first lesson...an old blues song that has been recorded by many different kinds of artists. I went home with assignments to practice tuning, a few chords, rhythm, and finger picking....just some introductory experiences. Cameron is professional and obviously loves teaching people I look forward to my next lesson!

In search of helping our 10 year old son build some self-confidence we sought out clarinet lessons this summer. He started playing in school last year, and it was something our reluctant son liked "enough" to want to build up some competency. Joshua has been amazing! He finds just the right amount of challenge to encourage my son to practice, but not get discouraged. My son looks forward to his lesson each week and told me that he isn't even sure he wants to switch to saxophone next year because he is having so much fun playing the clarinet. Joshua is amazing with children, and has spent time getting to know our kiddo and find out what will work best for him. Patient, calm, and inspiring--very talented instructor.

Joshua Blatman is a fantastic music teacher. He has a great resume, is experienced in a variety of instruments, and a solid background in teaching.
I think any kids lucky enough to learn music from Joshua will have fun and hopefully fall in love with learning it, just like my kids have.

I whole-heartedly recommend Joshua for anyone of any age and any skill level who wants to enrich their life learning guitar. I appreciate the fact that he makes the time and has the patience to adapt to my needs. Joshua is flexible in scheduling - especially for those unforeseen incidents - which is appreciated.

An avid vocalist and single-reed woodwind player, she has been studying music for over 15 years with a variety of teachers, and has experience in the Jazz, Musical Theatre, Praise, and Classical styles.
