I have been incorporating theory into the lessons for the 25 plus years I've been teaching. It's an integral part of learning each piece and additional books can be used to reinforce new concepts if needed.

About Susan
I was a piano major at UNI and received a B.A. in English with a minor in music. I taught music for several years in Iowa and Pennsylvania. I have an M.A. in Reading, which has been invaluable in analyzing learning styles and teaching to each student's strengths. I have been teaching piano for over twenty five years and I'm also active in church music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on learning the foundations of music as well as the technical skills needed to play piano. I gear the instruction towards finding patterns that make a piece more than a collection of notes and, thus, easier to learn.
I've used various curriculum: Alfred, Bastien, Faber, etc. and try to supplement materials with music that is appealing to the individual student.
I am very flexible with scheduling and try to make each lesson as stress-free and interesting
as possible.
In a few months a student should be able to read music and play simple melodies and chords.

*** Specialties ***
I teach classical as well as pop, providing a broad foundation that allows the student to play any style of music.

We will make sure each student understands the foundation, then build from there. Some students require different approaches to learning, and I work with the students' strengths to help them build their knowledge.

Using your primary instrument, we will explore the theoretical foundations of music for that instrument, while drawing basic parallels to other instruments.

About Victoria
Vicky is a music teacher originally hailing from Cocoa Beach, FL. She has been teaching since 2008, starting in the Central Florida area and then in the Southwest Virginia region. She studied music therapy at the graduate level through Radford University, and general music, with coursework in education, religious studies, and vocal training at the undergraduate level through the University of Central Florida, Orlando. At UCF she has studied with Dr. Jeremy Hunt and Kimberly Saunders Randall, and her past voice teachers include, Jason Reichman and Young Ju Lee, both FSU alumni. She started her music career with piano 20 years ago under the wing of Diana Ryder, and from there her love for music grew. Growing up, she listened to a variety of music, classical, musical theatre, Disney, pop, and Vietnamese folk and pop music. Ms. Ryder expos
ed her to a plethora of new genres and from there she developed her own style. Piano-wise her primary focuses are the romantic and baroque era, especially Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin. Vocally, her styles branch musical theatre, opera, pop, country, and on occasion touches on jazz. She has made the effort to learn as much as she possibly can about music, the different ways to play, to sing, while still keeping true to her own style. She hopes that her students have that same drive and be open to learning all sorts of music!

Since I travel for some lessons, please double check with me to make sure that I can travel to your lesson in a timely manner.

*** Lesson Details ***
I love to have fun, but I believe that in order to do so, you must know your stuff. I shall provide the resources for you to learn, and all you need to bring is your brain, eager to soak up information so that we can make music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room: Piano, mirror

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to provide a piano for piano lessons, and I can provide an instrument for voice lessons. I will find the books or media the student may need, and expect the student/parents of the student are responsible for the costs.

About Raymund
Raymund de la Pena has been playing music professionally for the past 30 years and was introduced to music at an early age. He started playing the piano at age 8 and shifted to the guitar a year later when he heard "yesterday"by the Beatles, the reason for the move to a different instrument was inevitable as he states "I heard some nuances and sonic ideas that the instrument wasn't giving to me and pretty much i heard that on the guitar from the get go". And so,with his fascination for music he went to get his college degree in music performance. After graduation he played gigs all over the world( jazz bars, hotel gigs, session work etc...). In 2001 ,he was given the oportunity to be the musical director of the broadway musical "RENT" in Singapore where it got rave reviews. In 2003 he went to perform on a cruise ship in europe that traveled
to 20 countries as a musical director for the showband.

In 2011 he released his debut record "The Long Road Taken" independently with his group(composed of session musicians)the "RDP Project" wherein it featured all of his original compositions, describing it as :"The Long Road Taken is an amalgamation of the different facets of jazz, particularly in a quartet setting".

He has performed with Victor Jones( renown drummer) at the Zinc bar in New York and at Skippers in Newark,New Jersey. He has also performed with other Jazz artists such as Eliane Amherd ,Elin Kathleen Melgarejo,Doug Little,Mel Davis and have attended master classes by the great trumpet player Eddie Henderson, jazz great Charlie Byrd, jazz legends Ray Brown and Herb Ellis just to name a few.
Ray's playing and improvisational style is described as modern -which blends the relaxed and ductile articulation which is akin to horn players, but yet deeply grounded in the jazz tradition of swing, melody and the blues.

Degrees/training: Bachelor of Music (Major in Classical Guitar) University of the Philippines.

It's always a BIG plus to learn music theory. A lot of voice students do not read music and sometimes when choral directors want to hear you sing they expect you to sight read a song. I like to teach the basics in music theory and sight singing. I have some fun studies that you will easily learn and it will help you tremendously when you are asked to sight sing. Coral directors ask this of you sometimes and bands who need a singer who can read parts.

About Dr. Jeanne
*Hi and welcome!!

My students like to call me Dr. Jeanne, so feel free to do the same! I have been in music all my life and I love helping my students no matter what level they may be.from beginning to advanced. My experience in music started on stage at age three and by the time I was 21 I was singing and dancing on national television in many variety tv shows after having won the tittle of Miss Memphis. I studied music at Stephens College in Columbia, MO and the University of California in music andI have since taught hundreds of voice and piano students everything I know about music and performance. Piano is a joy to teach, but my greatest love is teaching voice .I specialize in all styles of music as long as I feel it is musical, developmental and expressive.. Music takes time and discipline to master and I'm looking forward t
o meeting you and hearing all about your goals and dreams in music and how I can help you along your path.

About Charles
Outside of teaching percussion and musical performances I have worked in special education for over 15 years.

My life of music started knee high at the age of 4 playing drums and piano. At the age of 15 I gave my first musical performance, from that stage on I knew my talent had found a home.

In the 11th grade I toured with a local funk group in Washington DC through 26 cities learning music and the life of travel at an early age. During my last high school and college years I performed extensively playing classical, jazz, rock, funk, go-go, gospel, marching band, R&B, and with local rap artist.

Recording credits and highlights include work with Def Jam artist Steady Eddy, recording go-go Mario with Double Agent Rock, and recordings with Little Benny and the Masters.

My other musical passion is teaching. Throughout my col
lege years and beyond I served as a percussion instructor and assistant band director at Morgan State University. As part of the Morgan State University Magnificent Marching Machine I served as a instructional leader in music and performance mentor for the team. I taught part time as a percussion instructor at Milford Mill High School giving individual lessons for over 10 years.

Musical inspiration is an important element to the refinement of my craft. A few personal musical influences are Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Neil Peart (Rush), Dennis Chambers, (Santana), George Gray (Roberta Flack), Ricky Wellman (Miles Davis), Quinton Mack-Davis (Rare Essence) and Michael Bland (Prince).

*** Lesson Details ***
Within the first three months of lessons student will gain a strong foundation of sight reading and basic drum techniques in both rudiment studies and playing the drum set. My style of teaching music consist of breaking each skill down into chunks and allowing students to learn using their individual learning styles. I utilize rewards for perfect practice and each lesson contains a safe, fun learning atmosphere with students exhibiting in their best behavior.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Our son has never played in a marching band before but is interested in playing in the marching band when he attends college in July so we were specifically looking for an instructor who had marching band experience to teach our son since he's never participated in the marching band in high school. We saw Mr. Stewart's profile and decided to have him work with our son. That was the BEST decision that we could have ever made. We have been nothing but impressed with Mr. Stewart. He definitely has the gift of teaching and he is very patient, knowledgeable, and he challenges our son to get better by giving him homework after each session. Our son absolutely LOVES Mr. Stewart and he is always excited for each lesson and to practice what Mr. Stewart has taught him. Our son went from not playing in the marching band at all in high school to making his college band and receiving a scholarship all thanks to Mr. Stewart. We are very grateful for his outstanding teaching and we would definitely recommend Mr. Stewart 100%.
