Cello Lessons in King William. Amazing Teachers.

The cello has always been my greatest passion in life. I am originally from China and am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Cello Performance at Azusa Pacific University. I have been performed internationally, included Asia, the USA, and Europe. My first instrument was piano, but I soon discovered my passion for the Cello, which became my primary musical focus. I have a lot of patient and passion for teaching. I believe everyone can learn to play the cello with hard-working and proper training.

I teach basic through intermediate cello using the Essential Elements repertoire and my own personalized string exercises. Group lessons are available but I do not teach Suzuki.

While I certainly place emphasis on technical work and mastery, I also want all students to feel comfortable in expressing their individual voice and interests. I believe that it is incredibly important to encourage students to explore a number of creative avenues within music. Therefore, I am very open to having students explore music outside the classical canon in addition to experimenting with improvisation and composition. An additional component of my teaching style is finding unique and interesting ways to keep students motivated and teaching them how to effectively practice and learn on their own.

I offer beginning and intermediate cello lessons for children and adults.

Aloha! I'm Mr. B, a former public school orchestra teacher turned mailman. In 2018 my family had the wonderful opportunity to relocate to the island of Maui where I took a position as a letter carrier with USPS. Now that I'm settled, I'm excited to get back to teaching cello. I have 4 years of public school instruction teaching 5th-12th grade orchestra and 7 years of private instruction on cello. I have played cello for the University of Evansville, the University of Findlay, the University of Southern Indiana, Heidelberg University, The Firelands Symphony, The Bowling Green Symphony, and the Croswell Opera House. I have a relaxed, realistic teaching style that is student-centered and rooted in Suzuki's Every Child Can philosophy. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Cum Laude, from Eastern Michigan University and have completed training on Suzuki Cello Books 1 & 2.

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument.
