I just received my Bachelors in Cello Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and will be pursuing my Masters at the New England Conservatory in the fall. I've been playing cello for over 10 years and have been doing student teaching for about 5 years. I focus on building up great technique in my students, but more importantly, I want to help my students feel more connected to the music they play, and ultimately use their technique to express themselves. The best teachers, for me, don't just teach you how to play the notes, but also how to find your own meaning in the music that you play- no matter the difficulty level of the piece you're playing!

I use the Suzuki method for most beginner/intermediate students, but I'm also sensitive to what the student wants. I'm a firm believer that the student should always enjoy what they are practicing! I want to build up healthy, solid technique in my students, but I encourage my students to find pieces they themselves are interested in! Practicing and learning the cello takes dedication- but it is a deeply gratifying commitment.

About Isaac B.

Hello, my name is Isaac! I am a first-year Master's student at the New England Conservatory and I am based in the Boston area. I have been playing the cello for over 11 years and just graduated from the Eastman School of Music with my Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance. My aim is to provide valuable, affordable lessons and teach my students everything they need to know in order to improve their musicianship.

Students can expect to improve their technique every single week, but there's something that's even more important to me as a teacher. I want my students to feel more connected to the music they play, and feel that they are using their technique in order to express themselves. That's the most gratifying part of music making, for me: finding your own meaning in the music you play.

As a cellist, I've been lucky to be able to participate in masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma, Darrett Adkins, Antonio Meneses, Paul Katz, David Geber, Julia Lichten and Norman Fischer. I've been the principal cellist of the Eastman Philharmonia, and was very lucky to have been a cello fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in 2019, 2020, and 2021, where I also served as one of the principal cellists. Upon graduating from Eastman, I received the Glenn L. and Frances Harris Prize for excellence in cello performance. I've studied cello privately for over 10 years with teachers including David Ying, Efe Baltacigil and Ching-Jung Lee.

Practicing the cello is a commitment, but a deeply gratifying one. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your musical goals!

My son is a beginner in Cello and has been taking class with Isaac for a month or two. It went very well. He likes Isaac and says he is very nice and patient. It's so great to see he is making steady progress. Thank you Isaac!

So far so good. Isaac engaged with the student with relatable illustrations. Granted this is son’s first lesson but I could tell he was at ease with Isaac.

For what a first lesson review is worth Isaac was patient, well spoken, had very clear objectives which played into each other so I never felt like he was doing an info dump on me. I felt heard and supported. Cello is my 14th instrument and 5th one I've done private lessons on (though I have had more than 5 teachers) so my expectations are higher than I think most people's are and I still feel I made the right choice with him. I can't speak for the long term but I really don't foresee my opinion of him changing as we confront bigger challenges. He's earned my confidence and I can't wait for our second lesson.

His lessons are greatly insightful. He always looks back to the music, asking how we can make the music more compelling. He is extremely dedicated during lessons. He is a great player, and has taught me so much from just demonstration.

I attend school with Isaac B. and we have played chamber music together. From the time working with Isaac, he brings such meticulous attention to what is on the music, and provides an elaborate plan to executing these musical decisions. He is very determined to succeed with any tasks that is at hand, and always aims for the best results. He is a very patient and committed worker, and an excellent cellist.
